Τίτλος πρότασης / Project title: SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS FOR ECONOMIZATION IN WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS Περίληψη του έργου / Summary of the project The objective of the HYDROGNOMON industrial research project is to develop an integrated set of software applications for the economisation of water in distribution networks equipped with tele-operation and monitoring systems. The software will offer a double functionality: The demand-management applications use the data collected by the telematic system to adapt the parameters of appropriate computational models representing the evolution of water demand. The analysis uses a combination of conventional statistical approaches and of "intelligent" techniques stemming from the field of artificial intelligence. The modules offer the possibility to predict the demand at different time scales (hourly, daily, weekly and seasonal) as well as to calculate the actions required in order to meet the forecast demand peaks and, in general, to maintain a high level of water service despite fluctuations in demand. The loss-management applications monitor the data from the SCADA system and detect probable overflows, pressure drops and other "hydraulic events" that may signal loss of water in the mains. The software uses advanced computational methods to achieve a high degree of adaptability to the varying operational conditions in the network. In addition, the software may provide advise regarding actions that reduce the risk of water losses on a systematic basis or that contain the magnitude of water losses in the case of an emergency. The project activities include tasks of fundamental research (requirements capture and analysis, development and testing of methods), of industrial research (development of pilot software and testing in real-life application) and pre-competitive development, with a view to deliver a precommercial software prototype that can be used for further commercial development. The results of the project address the development and computerization initiatives of water utilities. This is a dynamic and rapidly developing market that can profit from the Hydrognomon applications to improve the management of water resources in the urban environment
