"SAINTS ALIVE" VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL Vacation Church School begins tomorrow, Monday, June 13, and will run through Friday, June 17, with daily sessions from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Parents are reminded that participants will be provided a morning snack and meal drinks but are asked to bring their lunch each day. Also, campers will receive a special t-shirt to wear on Friday at the evening program. See Presvytera Harriet, if you have questions about this ministry. ARCHIVES COMMITTEE SEEKS HTC ARTIFACTS Help the Archives Committee preserve an accurate history of the Holy Trinity Community so that the parish can present it as a legacy to future generations. Please check your possessions to see if your family was one of the many that saved precious documentation and artifacts when the congregation moved from one church to the next. Of course, Hurricane Katrina destroyed numerous artifacts, but there are still items and documents safely stored and safeguarded for when the time is right. Well, now is the right time, and the Archives Committee is ready. The Committee is particularly interested in documents and photos from the 19th century and early 20th century. For example, the earliest Parish Council document, dated 1929, is actually a news article that names the officers, who had been recently elected. Please bring your items to the Cathedral office. The Archives Committee thanks you in advance. GREEK FESTIVAL NEWS The Greek Festival Committee extends a HUGE thank you to the countless individuals, whose contributions helped make the 2016 Greek Festival a success! All volunteers are invited to attend an Appreciation Dinner beginning at 6:30 pm in the gymnasium on Friday, June 24, Booth chairpersons are asked to pass the word to their workers and take a head count for Stacy so enough food is prepared. Check with the Cathedral office to see what goodies remain from the Greek Festival. Great bargains are available, but quantities are limited. Call Stacy at GREEK NIGHT IN OCTOBER Everyone is asked to SAVE THE DATE and plan to attend the GREEK NIGHT celebration at the Hellenic Cultural Center on Saturday, October 22, A portion of the proceeds will benefit St. Jude Hospital. If interested, please call Maria Anastasiou at to select a month SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO DEMETRIOS PAPPAS Demetrios Pappas will be recognized today, Sunday, June 12, 2016, for his many contributions to the Holy Trinity Community. After Divine Liturgy there will be a special presentation followed by a reception in his honor. These activities afford the Cathedral family an opportunity to thank him for his unselfish contributions that include serving as a Board of Trustees member and president, a Cathedral chanter, a Greek Festival chairman, and on innumerable committees and projects throughout the decades.

2 STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY MARCH 13 STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY At Pascha Orthodox faithful are reminded of the great sacrifice that our Lord made so that we too may aspire to join Him in His heavenly kingdom. If you have not yet made your 2016 stewardship pledge, now would be an excellent time to do so. You may return your pledge card at any service or to the Cathedral office. Also, there are still a number of days available for sponsorship with a pledge of $1,000 or half-days for $500. PHILOPTOCHOS Join the Philoptochos family on Sunday, July 17, 2016, following church services to package healthy meals for hungry children. Fifty volunteers are needed for just one hour to package lentil casserole meals. No experience is needed, just a desire to help others. Together, the group can make a difference for hungry children in need. Contact Diane Chronis for more information. Message from Father George THE HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH An extraordinary session of the Sacred Endemousa Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate took place today under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in order to review the progress of the Holy and Great Council to be convened by the grace of God in just a few days. The Sacred Endemousa Synod was informed with surprise and wonder of the positions and opinions expressed recently by some sister Orthodox Churches and, after evaluating these, ascertained that no institutional framework allows for the revision of the Synodal process already under way. Therefore, it is expected that the Primates of the most holy Orthodox Churches will bring, in accordance with the Organization and Working Procedure of the Holy and Great Council, any proposals to amend, correct, or append the Synodal texts that were unanimously approved by the Pan-Orthodox Preconciliar Meetings and by Synaxes of the Primates pertaining to the agenda topics for final formulation and decision during the sessions of the Holy and Great Council, with the invocation and inspiration of the All-Holy Spirit. The Ecumenical Patriarchate, which bears the first responsibility for safeguarding the unity of Orthodoxy, calls all to rise to the occasion and participate, on the pre-determined dates, in the sessions of the Holy and Great Council as was decided and signed on a pan-orthodox level both by the Primates during the Sacred Synaxes, as well as by those authorized by each Delegation during the entire lengthy preparatory process of the Council. At the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the sixth of June 2016 From the Chief Secretariat Comment from the Metropolis of Atlanta website: As it is evident from the Announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Holy and Great Synod of all the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches will take place as scheduled with the possibility for discussion and decision on the various views that were recently raised. The Holy and Great Council will take place at the Orthodox Academy of Crete from 18 to 27 June The opening of the Council will take place after the Divine Liturgy of the feast of Pentecost and the closure on the Sunday of All Saints, according to the Orthodox calendar. As directed by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, we will celebrate Divine Liturgy on WEDNESDAY EVENING, JUNE 15, beginning at 7:00 pm. During this Liturgy, we have been asked to lift up in prayer this Great and Holy Council, to ask God to bless this gathering with His presence, and to grace the participants with the guidance of the All-Holy Spirit. THE EPISTLE Acts of the Apostles 20:16-18, Blessed are You Lord, the God of our fathers For you are just in everything, which you have created for us. IN THOSE DAYS, Paul had decided to sail past Ephesos, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost. And from Miletos he sent to Ephesos and called to him the elders of the church. And when they came to him, he said to them: "Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears. And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities, and to those who were with me. In all things I have shown you that by so toiling one must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, 'it is more blessed to give than to receive.' "And when he had spoken thus, he knelt down and prayed with them all. THE GOSPEL John 17:1-13 At that time, Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work which you gave me to do; and now, Father, you glorify me in your own presence with the glory which I had with you before the world was made. "I have manifested your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world; yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you; for I have given them the words which you gave me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you did send me. I am praying for them; I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are mine; all mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.
