Skaff, a professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky, accompanied thirty-eight University of Kentucky juniors and chaperones to New Orleans this weekend. The purpose of the visit was to provide a community engagement opportunity for the students, who will soon become the physicians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals of the future. Please welcome Dr. Skaff, her husband Dr. David Skaff, and her students, who are attending Divine Liturgy today, February 12. PREPARATIONS FOR SJCOF The Sunday Church School class taught by Koula Vennis prepared several projects for today's St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. Their items will be displayed in the gymnasium, among others, during the Progressive Coffee Hour that will follow Divine Liturgy. Pass by the various tables to see their handiwork and enjoy the snacks. DONATIONS FOR FUNERAL EXPENSES Donations to help defray the funeral expenses for James Petit are still being accepted. SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL PROGRESSIVE COFFEE HOUR TODAY The St. John Chrysostom Progressive Coffee Hour will take place today after Divine Liturgy in the gymnasium followed by the 2017 SJCOF Parish Festival for Holy Trinity 7-12 graders.

2 DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE MEETING - FEBRUARY 12 All members are encouraged to attend a special Daughters of Penelope meeting today, Sunday, February 12, at 12:00 pm, following church services. The Chapter, founded on February 26, 1937, will celebrate its 80th birthday! The Daughters will also welcome District Governor Gretchen Holtsinger from Houston, Texas, for her visitation to the New Orleans Chapter. Please come to meet the District Governor and to join in the birthday celebration. GOYA VOLLEYBALL Although Holy Trinity youth soccer will not begin until March, GOYA volleyball began on Friday, January 27, with an indoor practice session. The volleyball gatherings, scheduled in the gymnasium on Friday evenings at 6:00 pm, are a fun, no-pressure opportunity to learn to play the game, as well as to get to know each other better. It is for players of all levels - from beginners to intermediate. Coach Kalli Grass and GOYA Advisor Donna Venturatos encourage GOYANS to give it a try or just come hang out, if you really do not wish to play! They also hope to engage GOYA parents in preparing a light meal of fasting foods following some of the Friday night practices. The informal gatherings promise to be fun for all! Please note that there will be NO Friday sessions on February 17 and February 24 because of Mardi Gras activities. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON The Senior Citizens Luncheon on February 9 was festive and fun thanks to the generosity of sponsors Georgia and George Zervoudis, who hosted the luncheon in memory of Father Dimitrios and Presvytera Maria Zervoudis and Styliani and Paraskevas Karnari, and to the creative artistry of Georgia, who adorned the Coffee Room with beautiful Valentine items, both decorative and edible. The meal was delicious, the gifts and prizes were plentiful, and the camaraderie was perfect. STEWARDSHIP 2017 Everyone should have received a 2017 Stewardship packet by now. Message from Father George ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM ORATORICAL FESTIVAL The Cathedral Community is in for a special treat today with the presentation of the 2017 Saint John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. Introduced in 1983 this annual program was organized by our Archdiocese Department of Religious Education. The festival gives our teenagers the opportunity to write and talk about their faith in their own words. After today s Divine Liturgy is dismissed, the Sunday Church School classes, teachers, and students, will offer snacks and refreshments throughout the Hellenic Cultural Center. Please enjoy this Progressive Coffee Hour and stop by each of the class tables, sample their wares, and see what the class is working on this year. After the coffee fellowship, we encourage you to please stay to listen to the orations of our teenagers. The program is broken down into two divisions, Junior (7th through 9th grade) and Senior (10th through 12th grade). The Juniors speak for 3-4 minutes each; we have four (4) speakers. The Seniors speak for 4-5 minutes each; we have two (2) speakers. The top two speakers in the Junior and Senior Divisions advance to the district level, which will be at Annunciation Church in Pensacola, Florida, on April 1. Two finalists in each district division will represent the district at the Metropolis Oratorical Festival at Saint Demetrios Church in Daytona Beach, Florida, during the weekend of April The top speaker in each metropolis division is then selected to participate in the Archdiocese Finals, which is hosted by a different metropolis each year. Last year the Metropolis of Atlanta hosted the National Festival at the Saint Nektarios Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. This year s 34th National Oratorical Festival will be hosted by the Metropolis of Boston and the Parish of Annunciation in Woburn, Massachusetts, June Each year the Archdiocese distributes five (5) topics from which participants choose. Here, students select one topic, research it, prepare a talk, rehearse, and then present their talk in front of their extended family of the Cathedral. Again, we invite you to stay and listen to the orations of our Sunday Church School students and encourage them as they share their Orthodox Faith.

THE EPISTLE I Corinthians 6:12-20 Brethren, "all things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food" -- and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh." But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God. THE GOSPEL Luke 15:11-32 The Lord said this parable: "There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.' And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry. Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant. And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.' But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!' And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"

6 Project Autism A fundraiser because Philoptochos ardently supports families and... The Family Camp for Special Needs Children Elpis Chapter is supporting the Metropolis of Atlanta s annual camp for autistic children and their families in cooperation with the author of this recently published book provided by a member of the Holy Trinity Cathedral family. A book signing will be held in the Hellenic Cultural Center following Divine Liturgy on Sunday, February 19. Suggested donations of $20 (paperback) and $35 (hard cover) would be appreciated as ALL proceeds from this fundraiser will be forwarded for the support of this worthwhile philanthropic activity.
