The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 15:1-7 Brethren, we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves; let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him. For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached thee fell on me." For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. The Gospel According to Matthew 9:27-35 At that time, as Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, "Have mercy on us, Son of David." When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you." And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them, "See that no one knows it." But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. As they were going away, behold, a dumb demoniac was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons." We will be opening a second 3 year old class in the Fall and are seeking a qualified teacher that has a college degree and early childhood teaching experience. Restricted Use of Facilities in August The facilities complex will close at 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and at 1pm on Fridays during August except for Religious Services. Organizations and Ministries please keep this in mind when scheduling meetings. The Cathedral Office will close at 1pm on Friday during August. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. Flower Donations For Icons Flowers always add beauty to whatever they adorn. It has been a tradition among Orthodox Churches to decorate Holy Icons with flowers when a Feast Day is being celebrated. If you would like to make a donation for flowers towards any of the following feast day icons decoration, please contact the Cathedral Office. As always, this will be done on a first come, first serve basis. The feast day icon available for the next two months is: Elevation of the Holy Cross. The donation for the icon flowers is $100. Memorial, Artoclasia, Phanouropita & 40 Day Blessing Services: If you are planning to celebrate a: Memorial, Artoclasia, Phanouropita Blessing, 40-Day Baby Blessing, or any other type of service which is to take place during or after the Divine Liturgy, Father Christopher is respectfully asking for your help. Please call the Cathedra office and schedule these sacred and blessed services ahead of the day of the celebration. The Clergy want your services to be spiritually uplifting and respectful, not a last-minute thought which can disrupt and cause undue confusion and disruption to the Divine Liturgy. We do not want to exclude your special service, but there are certain days and ecclesiastical seasons during the year when your requested service may not be able to take place due to the directions of the Church Typicon. 7 8th Annual College Student Sunday August 15th At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 15th, the clergy will request that all college students, those who commute and those who live away - freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors, master s, post grad, doctorate s etc., come forward before the Holy Altar for a blessing/ prayer over you, asking God to bless and protect you during the school year and always.
