Page 4 Philoptochos Happy New Year and welcome 2019! We send our wishes that this year brings an abundance of health, love and peace to you and your families! Thank you all who so generously donated to make our Thanksgiving food drive successful. We were able to supply Thanksgiving dinners and more to three different Long Beach organizations, For the Child, Trinity Homes and The Children s Clinic. Over 150 families were fed and that consisted of over 300 children. God has truly blessed us! We are happy to have been able continue our sharing with the help of Parish Council by reaching out and giving Christmas food baskets to families in need at For the Child. Thank you for all the love that you have given. Thank you all for being a part of this fantastic Philoptochos Omonia Chapter! Hoping that in 2019 we will be able to continue to spread love and good will though out our community and beyond. Thank you to all those who visited our homebound senior members. Your visits brought smiles to all as you shared your love. Thank you to all our wonderful holiday bakers who supplied delicious Greek Christmas sweets as we filled our tummies and satisfied our sweet tooth with delightful goodies. Our annual Cutting of the Vasilopita will be on January 13 th. Once again, we are ask ing that you share your favorite Vasilopita with us that day. All proceeds for the cut ting are given to St. Basils Academy. This year we are pleased to have two St Basils students that we have adopted. Their pictures and a short bio will be available for you all to meet them on that day! It s membership time! We need to build our membership. We cannot do this without your help. It is our goal that every member of this community be part of Philoptochos and its mission as well and spread philanthropy to those in need. You can do this by attending our annual Membership luncheon on February 24 th. It s a fun and exciting afternoon and a joy to see the talents of those who decorated tables for the event. If you are interested in participating, please contact Lia Kakaris @ 562-773-1778. We will be recognizing women s heart health at our luncheon so remember to sport your favorite red attire that day. Keep your eye out for more information. Again, we wish that the New Year bring the best of health and happiness to you and your families. Wishing you all a blessed 2019, Stacie Zoumberakis, President AGDCAS Η ΖΩΗ ΚΑΘ ΤΟ ΕΡΓΟ ΤΩΝ ΤΡΘΩΝ ΘΕΡΑΡΧΩΝ Greek Column by Voula Michail Στις 30 Ιανουαρίου, κάθε χρόνο, γιορτάζουμε τη μνήμη των Τριών Ιεραρχών, όπως καθιερώθηκε από το 1100 μ.χ.. Page 7
