St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church Office 508-791-7326 Mon.-Fri.: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m www.spyridoncathedral.org Reverend Doctor Dimitrios Moraitis Dean Reverend Father Dean N. Paleologos Dean Emeritus Reverend Deacon Andrew Giourelis Georgia Parafestas -Parish Council President Email - frdimitrim@gmail.com WELCOME Welcome to the Saint Spyridon Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts. We are honored that you have chosen to worship with us today. It is our hope that your visit here will bring you many blessings from God. Please be sure to tell us if you are visiting or if you are new to our community. Our Church Family worships the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and every Sunday, the Lord s Day, we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to live the Holy Gospel in accordance with the Orthodox Faith; towards sanctification through God s grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy and the Sacraments: glorifying God through all joys and struggles; and as a Church Community, in Christian love, we seek to do His will so that through His mercy, we may attain His Kingdom. We are blessed to have the slippers of St. Spyridon, which are located in the front-left of the Church, please be sure to venerate them. We pray you have a blessed day and that you visit with us again soon. Also, please remember that one must be an Orthodox Christian in order to receive Holy Communion. If you would like to embrace the Orthodox Faith, please see Father Dimitrios Moraitis. May God Bless you! Entrance Hymns Apolytikion Let the Heavens rejoice; let earthly things be glad; for the Lord hath wrought might with His arm, He hath trampled upon death by death. The first-born of the dead hath He become. From the belly of Hades hath He delivered us, and hath granted great mercy to the world. For the Memorials Keep Thy servants in remembrance, O Lord, since Thou art good; and do Thou forgive every sin in this life; for no man is without sin, except for Thee Who art able to grant rest even unto him who has departed hence. Saint Spyridon At the First Synod you were manifest as a champion, and a wonder-worker, our Godbearing Father Spyridon. Wherefore, you spoke to one dead in the tomb, and a serpent you changed into gold. And while chanting your sacred services, you had angels celebrating with you, O most holy one. Glory to Him who glorified you! Glory to Him who crowned you! Glory to Him who through you works healings for everyone. Kontakion O God, when You come upon the earth in glory, the whole world will tremble. A river of fire will bring all before Your Judgment Seat and the books will be opened, and everything in secret will become public. At that time, deliver me from the fire which never dies, and enable me to stand by Your right hand, O Judge most just.

Πρὸς Κορινθίους α' 8:8-13, 9:1-2 τὸ ἀνάγνωσμα ΤΗΕ EPISTLE Great is our Lord, and great is his power. Verse: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good. The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2 Ἀδελφοί, βρῶμα ἡμᾶς οὐ παρίστησιν τῷ θεῷ οὔτε γὰρ ἐὰν φάγωμεν περισσεύομεν, οὔτε ἐὰν μὴ φάγωμεν ὑστερούμεθα. Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

THE HOLY GOSPEL The Gospel According to Matthew 25:31-46 The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Father Arseny - Priest, Prisoner, Spiritual Father If you ever have doubts about your faith, as we all do at some time or other, this book will provide a glimpse into the life of a new saint as recalled by his spiritual children, and will uplift your faith. Father Arseny was a an Orthodox priest and prisoner in the gulags of the Soviet Union, was severely tortured, yet through his faith in Christ was able to change the lives of those around him. His story can influence your life, as well. Available at our bookstore! CHILD ADVOCACY CONVERSATION Presvytera Maria Apostola will be offering a talk about her role as a Child Advocate in Massachusetts and her work with children in need, the impact of the opioid epidemic, and things to be aware of as parents. Join her at Sts. Anargyroi in Marlboro on Sunday January 25th from 3pm- 5pm. FASTING / ΝΗΣΤΕΙΑ As today is Meatfare Sunday (Κυριακή τῆς Ἀπόκρεω), the Church calls us to abstain from meat from tomorrow until Pascha. Dairy products, however, are allowed every day this week.

GODPARENT SUNDAY February 11th, 2018 We ask your children to invite their Godparents to attend Godparent Sunday and sit together at the Cathedral as we participate in the Divine Liturgy and receive Holy Communion as a family. This is an opportunity for children and Godparents to reignite this foundational relationship that began at their baptism. Yiayiades, papoudes, aunts, uncles, and cousins are invited if a Godparent cannot attend. Priest: Do you renounce Satan, and all his works, and all his worship, and all his angels, and all his pomp? Godparent: I do renounce him. Priest: Have you renounced Satan? Godparent: I have renounced him. Priest: Then blow and spit upon him. Priest: Do you join Christ? Godparent: I do join Him. Priest: Have you joined Christ? Godparent: I have joined Him. Priest: And do you believe in Him? Godparent: I believe in Him as King and as God. Priest: Have you joined Christ? Godparent: I have joined Him. Priest: Then bow before Him and worship Him. Godparent: I bow down before the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; Trinity. One in essence and undivided.

This month s meal is donated by and served by members of the Philoptochos and parish volunteers. The Feeding Ministry will typically be scheduled the 2nd Saturday of each month in conjunction with the Council of Eastern Orthodox Churches of Central Massachusetts and the Food Pantry, and is subject to change if scheduling difficulties should arise. If you would like to volunteer please speak with Fr. Dimitri or contact Maria Kassos. Thank you for participating in the Lord s Work.
