Ξεκίνα! Let us look back to the future tense which always has the small word «θα» in front of the verb. 2 Θα διαβάσω τα βιβλία I will read the books Θα τηλεφωνάω κάθε μέρα I will βe telephoning every day Θα αγοράσω καινούριο αυτοκίνητο του χρόνου I will buy a new car -next year Το επόμενο καλοκαίρι θα πάμε στη θάλασσα κάθε μέρα The following (next) summer we will go to the sea Κάθε Σάββατο βράδυ θα πάω έξω Every Saturday evening I will go out Δεν θα είμαι στο σπίτι I will not be at the house Θα πάω στον κινηματογράφο ή στο θέατρο I will go to the cinema or the theatre Το θέατρο συνήθως τελειώνει τις δέκα The theatre usually finishes at ten. Μετά θα φάω στη ταβέρνα και θα γυρίσω στο σπίτι αργά After, I will eat at the taverna and I will return to the house late Πριν από το φαγητό βοηθάω τα παιδιά με τα μαθήματα Before the food I help the children with their lessons. Την Τετάρτη απόγευμα θα πάω περίπατο με τα παιδιά Wednesday afternoon I will walk with the children (go for a walk) τα απογεύματα θα δουλεύω στο κήπο The afternoons I will be working in the garden Την Κυριακή αν ο καιρός είναι καλός θα πάω εκδρομή On Sunday if the weather is fine I will go on an excursion Θα οδηγάω το αυτοκίνητο γιατί ο Πέτρος δεν προσέχει και τρέχει πολύ I will be driving the car, because Petros is not careful and goes fast Listen now to Andreas when he will tell us what he will do this weekend. He will use two new verbs ξεκινώ ( I start or set off) and φτάνω (I arrive/reach). Past of Ξεκινάω φτάνω Ξεκίνησα έφτασα 2

3 Look at the verb again with the future as well Ξεκινάω Ξεκίνησα Θα ξεκινήσω Φτάνω έφτασα Θα φτάσω Τι θα κάνω το άλλο Σαββατοκύριακο; What will I do the next weekend? Θα φύγω από το γραφείο τη μία I will leave from the office at one Θα πάω αμέσως στο σπίτι και θα φάω γρήγορα I will go at once (instantly) to the house and I will eat fast (quickly) Τις δύο θα συναντήσω τη φίλη μου τη Μαρία At two I will meet my friend Maria Θα πάμε στη Κορακιάνα για το Σαββατοκύριακο We will go to Korakiana for the weekend Θα ξεκινήσουμε τις τρις και θα φτάσουμε εκεί τις τέσσερις We will start at three and we will arrive there at four Θα μείνουμε σε ένα ξενοδοχείο We will stay at an hotel Θα φάμε τις εφτά και μετά θα πάμε στο χορό We will eat at seven and after we will go to the dance Εκεί θα συναντήσουμε πολλούς φίλους και φίλες από την Κέρκυρα There we will meet many friends (M and F) from Corfu Θα μείνουμε εκεί άλλη μία μέρα ως το απόγευμα We will stay there one more day up to the afternoon Θα φάμε και θα φύγουμε We will eat and we will leave Θα γυρίσουμε από άλλο δρόμο για να δούμε άλλα μέρη We will return from another (other) road (for) to see other places Now look at the continuous and non-continuous forms Ελπίζω ότι θα σε δω αύριο I hope that I will see you tomorrow Ελπίζω θα σε βλέπω συχνά I hope that I will be seeing you often Θα σου τηλεφωνήσω αύριο I will phone you tomorrow Θα τηλεφωνάω κάθε μέρα I will be phoning every day 3

5 Let us try a translation in which you will choose the correct verb Ex. I shall always love you Πάντα θα σε αγαπώ Θα σου γράφω συχνά I will be writing to you often Θα τον συναντήσω την επόμενη Κυριακή I will meet him next Sunday Θα μένω στο σπίτι τα βράδια I will be staying at the house the evenings Θα αγοράσω καινούριο σπίτι I will buy a new house I now draw your attention to an expression which Andreas used earlier Θα φτάσουμε εκεί τις πέντε, ελπίζω We will arrive there at five, I hope In English we say up there, in Greek though the place word comes first «εκεί πάνω» (there up!)
