CURRICILUM VITAE V. L. KONSTANTINOPOULOS Associate Professor of the Department of Classics, Faculty of Humanitarian Sciences and Cultural Studies, University of Peloponnese 1. Studies 1. He was born in Patras, where he completed high school. 2. He graduated from the Philosophical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Classics Department). During the course of his studies he specialized in Palaeography, Papyrology and Text Critics. 3. At a postgraduate level, he attended the Philosophical School of the University of Cologne, where he received his PhD (1980 83) with Prof. Dr. R. Merkelbach as a supervisor. He specialized in 1. Ancient Greek Philology, 2. Latin Philology and 3. Byzantine Philology and in the auxiliary philological sciences (Epigraphics, Palaegraphy, Papyrology, Text Critics). 2. Instructive experience He has instructed Ancient Greek Philology and Latin in secondary and tertiary education. He teaches (from the academic year 2005 6 until this day) Ancient Greek Philology, Epic poetry, Homer, Hesiod, Herodotus Thucydides, Xenophon, Cicero and Style of the Ancient Greek Prose in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the Faculty of Humanitarian Sciences and Cultural Studies of our University. 3. Contribution in Seminars and International Conferences He has participated in many international conferences that were organized by the University of Peloponnese, the Greek Language Heritage, the Society of Greek Philologists, the Parnassos Literary Society and others, with announcements on language, literature and didactics. He was a member of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference 2500 years from the Battle of Marathon. Literary, archaeological and historical testimonies, held in October 2010 in Kalamata with the participation of many distinguished foreign scientists. The conference proceedings have been published (2013) by the Institute of Classical Studies, University of London.
He is a member of the organizing committee of the International Conference of Byzantine Studies, organized by the Byzantine Culture Research Institute in Sparta from 3 to 5 November 2012. He also participated with papers in the International Conferences of Oratory held in Kalamata in 2012 and 2013, in collaboration with the Classics Department of University College London. He was also involved in the organizing committee and participated with papers in the International Conference of 2014 in Kalamata, where distinguished representatives of Philological Sciences from French Universities were involved, which was held in cooperation with University College London. He also participates with papers in the National Conferences organized by the Panhellenic Union of Philologists. 4. Administrative experience He has participated in ELKE as a representative of TIADPA since 2009 and of the Department of Philology in 2011 12 and has also participated in many committees of the Faculty of Humanitarian Studies and Cultural Studies since 2007. He is the General Secretary of the Board of PARNASSOS Literary Society and has served as head of finances for this Philological Association, which is the oldest in the country and which manages many endowments and presents activities of educational and cultural nature (scholarships, competitions, conferences, publications, etc.). 5. Seminars Organized in an Effort to Connect the University with the Local Society Since 2005 he regularly organizes a cycle of lectures (The Greek Language in its timelessness, cultural, historical and other issues) in order to strengthen the relations with the local community and to disseminate scientific knowledge to the public of Messinia. Since 2008, he continuously and selflessly, conducts training seminars of educational interest for philology professors of Secondary Education. 6. Master s degree theseis, Dissertations, Research Programmes He is a supervisor of 7 Dissertations and a member of an equal number of committees, while he also supervises and monitors as a member several
theseis. Four dissertations, of which he was a member of the tripartite committee, have been already completed, and the candidates have been declared PhDs. He actively participates as a member of the research team in proposed research projects that relate to editions of Ancient Greek texts, papyri, historical archives, etc. He also participates in the organization of the Postgraduate Program of Studies in Classical Philology of our University, which already operates with great success. 7. Contribution to the Department s research activity To promote research activity of our Department personal actions have already been taken to acquire: part of the private collection of unpublished papyri of the Professor B. Mandilaras large part of the German occupation units files (1941 1944) relating to our country with thousands of pages of unpublished and unexplored material and has already initiated the acquisition of many medieval manuscripts of Ancient Greek writers on CDs. 8. Social and Trade Union Action He is a Board member of the Society of Greek Philologists, which is a bastion defending the humanity sciences and values. He is also General Secretary of the Board of the Parnassos Literary Society, which has to exhibit tremendous action in the sections of Humanities and Arts, values that he promotes from responsible positions. He is President of the Teachersʹ Association of the Faculty of Humanitarian Sciences and Cultural Studies and, in tandem with his colleagues, seeks to promote and solve institutional and educational issues. 9. Languages He speaks German, English and French. 10. Marital Status He is married with Mrs. Sophia Christodoulidou and is the father of two children, Kimon and Danae.
11. Publications 1) The Nature of his Work His published work is divided into two categories: a) editions of Ancient Greek texts and b) studies. In the former monographs and articles that offer new material in Philology are included, as in essence they are philological texts that were issued for the first time (see Monographs no. 1, 2 and Articles no. 2, 3). Of particular importance is the ready for publication in DE GRUYTER work Homeric Lexikon of Apollonius Sophist (Monographs no. 1), the text of which is restored with completeness for the first time. It should be noted that the edition of this dictionary is a desideratum in Classical Philology. The studies include all other works and articles, where issues pertaining to text comparison are examined in detail, such as, e.g. Epitaph of Pericles and Pseudoxenofontian Constitution of the Athenians (Monographs no. 4), the comparison of the three historians of the classical period (Monographs no. 11) or motif issues in the Iliad (Monographs no. 5), or stylistic and linguistic issues such as The Structure of Classical Languages, which is prefaced by the distinguished linguist and Hellenist F. Adrados (Monographs no. 8), the Style of the Ancient Greek Prose (Monographs no. 9 and 10) which is part of a three volume work on the development of ancient Greek style.
