Methods: 29 normally-cycling female undergraduates participated in a resting mental arithmetic test in premenstrual phase (luteal phase) postmenstrual phase (follicular phase) and ovulation of their menstrual cycle. Results: Changes of heart rate was the most significant. Heart rate (HR) in ovulation was significantly greater than that in premenstrual and postmenstrual phase. Despite HR of mental arithmetic was significantly greater than HR of resting in ovulation and postmenstrual phase there was no difference in premenstrual phase. Power spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) only showed low-frequency (LF) component of resting was higher than LF of mental arithmetic. Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) of mental arithmetic was significantly greater than GSR of resting. Conclusion: Stress sensitivity of female undergraduates is the highest in premenstrual phase of menstrual cycle.
