PHILOPTOCHOS Philoptochos means Friends of the Poor National Philoptochos Sunday is the first Sunday of November declared by our National Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. On this day the Philanthropic works of Philoptochos the yearly commitment to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate are recognized. November 1 st commemorates the feast day of SS Cosmas and Damianos, the unmercenaries, helpers for those in need, and patron saints, of the Philoptochos chapters. Philoptochos is one of the largest philanthropic religious organizations in the United States and the only women s group recognized arm of the Greek Orthodox Church. What is this organization about? "To promote charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach, to preserve the sanctity of life and family, and to perpetuate and to promote our Orthodox faith and traditions." The charitable work of the Society is performed with discretion, courtesy, kindness, and with LOVE and COMMITMENT to those in need. The philanthropic, charitable, educational projects and programs benefit in many ways. Donations and contribution funds are distributed to local, national and international communities. Dear Parishioners, SAINT GEORGE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CARD Our annual campaign for the SAINT GEORGE CHURCH CHRISTMAS CARD has started. In keeping with the Blessed Season, a very beautiful Christmas card has been designed especially for our church, to be sent to 350 members. You, as a family unit, or an individual, will wish to be listed in the card for a nominal donation of $17.00. In this manner, you will benefit your Sunday School, send greetings to our parish families and friends, save yourself the expense of buying cards and stamps, and especially, the time spent addressing and mailing many cards.
