How to get to Cyprus: The only legal points of entry by air into the Republic of Cyprus are the Larnaka International Airport (LCA) and the Pafos International Airport (PFO). The main airport is Larnaca (LCA) and most of the flights will land there. This airport is situated 120 km from Paphos. The (smaller) airport in Paphos (PFO) might be conveniently located although it is better connected during the summer tourist season. For more information please visit: http://www.cyprusairports.com.cy/ How to get to Paphos (organised transfers): The Cyprus Presidency will provide free transfers from Larnaca International Airport (LCA) to the hotels pre-booked for participants of the ESPON Seminar and Meetings in Paphos. Buses will depart from the airport at specified intervals.
Upon arrival at Larnaca International Airport (LCA), please go to the Cyprus Presidency Info Point to be guided to the meeting point for the transfer to the hotels. Free transportation will also be provided from the designated hotels to Larnaca International Airport (LCA) after the end of the meeting(s)/seminar each participant has signed up for and on the following day, according to the departure flight details entered in the registration system. How to get to Paphos (public transport and taxi): Please note that there is no direct public transport link between Larnaca Airport and the Beach Hotels pre-booked in Paphos one would have to make several connections in Limassol and Paphos central. The cost of a taxi between Larnaca Airport and Paphos is approximately 100 euro s. Please note that in case you are entitled to reimbursement of travel costs from the ESPON 2013 programme, taxi costs are not eligible. Therefore, we urge you to use the free transfers organised by the Cyprus Presidency. For delegates arriving at Pafos International Airport (PFO), staff members there will provide information on the most convenient means of transport available at the time of arrival. One option is to take bus line 612 to the hotels located along Poseidon Avenue. You can find the bus schedule and a route map at the end of this document. Hotel booking: The Cyprus Presidency has pre-booked rooms in two hotels in Paphos, both situated along the main coastal road to the south of Paphos town. MC Members and ECPs have been allocated places in the Aquamare Beach Hotel. Other participants have been allocation places in the Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel. Please note that you can only reserve a place in the hotel designated to you, due to practical and logistical reasons. Rooms are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. In order to book your hotel, please fill in the relevant booking form, which is attached to the invitation e-mail. The event code to be mentioned on the booking form is: 3IN14. Please send the booking form directly to the relevant hotel. You are asked to fill in your credit card details to confirm the booking. You are responsible for your own reservation and payment of your room. When you have received confirmation of your reservation by the hotel, please fill in your accommodation details at the relevant section of the online registration system of the Cyprus Presidency. This section must be completed so that the Presidency organisers can arrange transfers between hotels and LCA airport for arrival and departure, as well as for any other planned transfers during the ESPON Week events including tranfers between Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel and the seminar venue on 5-6 December. This generalisation must however be modified by consideration of altitude, which lowers temperatures by about 5 C per 1,000 metres and of marine influences which give cooler summers and warmer winters near most of the coastline and especially on the west coast, where Paphos is located. Snow falls only in winter, mostly on the Troodos Mountains in the central part of island. Frosts are rarely severe but are frequent in winter and spring inland, although the maritime areas of Paphos are rarely affected. Most rainfall occurs between November and March. In Paphos town, average high and low temperatures in early December typically range between 20 C and 10 C, respectively. On average, 8.8 days in December are rainy, while up to 186 hours of sunshine can be expected, even considering December has some of the shortest days in the year. 3
Local Time: Cyprus Time is Eastern European Time (GMT+2). Currency: The currency of Cyprus is the Euro. Electricity supply: The electricity supply in Cyprus is 230 V AC, 50Hz. Sockets are usually 13 A (BS 1363) square pin with three-point plugs. Many hotels provide adaptors upon request from the reception. Driving: Traffic keeps to the left. On roundabouts, traffic approaching from the right has priority. Opening hours: Shops normally open around 09:00 and close around 19:00 except on Wednesday afternoon, when they generally close after 15:00. Shops in tourist areas, large shopping centres and department stores may stay open on weekends and public holidays as well. Banks are open on workdays (Monday to Friday) usually between 08.30 and 13.30. From October to April they are also open on Monday afternoon between 15.15 and 16.45. Banks are closed on weekends and public holidays. Restaurants and cafés have varying opening hours, but lunch is most often served between 12:00 and 15:00.
