April 23rd. The Feast of our Patron Saint St. George the Great Martyr St. George s father was from Cappadocia and his mother was from Palestine. He was a chiliarch (that is, a commander of a thousand troops), When he learned that the Emperor Diocletian was about to persecute the Christians, Saint George denounced this wicked act publicly before the Emperor. He suffered terrible tortures by the hands of these ungodly men. By miraculous signs, he withstood these tortures and attracted many to Christianity including Queen Alexandra, wife of Diocletian, and was finally beheaded in 296 in Nicomedia. His Holy remains were taken by his servant from Nicomedia to Palestine, to a town called Lydda, the homeland of his mother, and then were finally translated to the church which was raised up in his name. (The translation of the Saint's holy relics to the church in Lydda is commemorated on November 3; Saint Alexandra the Queen, on April 21. We should be proud and honoured that this wondrous and brave saint is our patron saint for he should be an example of endurance of all sufferings, both body and soul. This way unbelievers can be made into believers and could help us to stand firm against all kinds of Christian persecution. If April 23 falls on or before Great and Holy Pascha, the Feast of St. George is translated to Bright Monday. 1

ANNUAL GREEK EASTER CELEBRATION Please join us again to celebrate the Feast of all Feasts Holy Pascha (Easter) at Sandhills Communιty Hall 52032 Range Road 270 Spr. Grove AB on April 12th at 1pm for the Vespers of Agape and Easter Dinner at 2:30pm. Tickets for the Easter Dinner and Celebration are $40 for adults and $20 for children ages 6-12.
