Make plans to attend and enjoy a delicious lunch and have fun with bingo. The Church School staff is preparing for the annual Christmas Pageant, bringing together the Church School students for the performance. As it is important for all HTC youth to attend services and Church School every Sunday, parents are asked that their child/children attend the remaining SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL CLASSES between now and Sunday, December 4, in order to be eligible for one of the primary roles and/or reading parts. Also, this year the Church School staff is stressing the importance of all children attending the full pageant rehearsals to become familiar with THE SONGS, WHERE TO STAND, and THE OVERALL PROGRAM. The remaining schedule is as follows: Sunday, December 4 select names for primary roles and readers Sunday, December 11 full rehearsal during Sunday Church School Saturday, December 17 full rehearsal immediately following Communion Breakfast If you have any questions, please contact Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com.

Message from Father George ON SAINT PAUL'S LIFE IN CHRIST In today s Epistle reading the Holy Apostle Paul is responding to the Judaizers, who taught that all new Christians should participate in the rituals of ancient Judaism to be considered authentic Christians. But, as Saint Paul says: But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Other Bible translations use the word boast instead of glory in the previous verse. How do we boast in the Cross? The Orthodox Study Bible explains that to boast in the Cross, we wear the Cross, display it in our homes, and sign ourselves with the Cross when we bless ourselves. We boast or glory in the Cross when we live our lives under its protective shadow, which is a reminder of the power and mercy of God. Saint Paul continued: For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. As Christians, we have become a new creation through our Baptism as we put on Christ forevermore. For those of us who were Baptized as infants, it is imperative that we meditate on the words of Saint Paul and realize the great Grace that has been imparted unto us, unworthy though we may be. As we glory in the Cross, we equip ourselves with the power of God through our love for Christ and proclaim that we are followers of Christ, showing our solidarity with Him and His message of Salvation. In the following sentences, which are the last sentences in Saint Paul s letter to the Galatian Christians, he writes: Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth, let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. As the Judaizers attempted to physically change the early Galatian Christians in the same manner that the Jews were set apart in their covenant with God, Saint Paul was strong and clear in his message that our entry into a life in Christ is not a physical change but a spiritual change, and the marks he now displays and on which he comments are evidence that he is living his life for Christ and even suffering persecution for His Lord and Savior. AHEPA-DAUGHTERS CHRISTMAS PARTY The AHEPA-Daughters of Penelope Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at 6:00 pm in the Hellenic Cultural Center. All AHEPANS, Daughters, and their spouses are invited to attend. BLOOD DONORS NEEDED The Cathedral office was notified that Nick Kardoulias needs volunteers to donate blood on his behalf due to renal issues that necessitate blood transfusions. Consider going to East Jefferson General Hospital and donating blood. And, don't forget to mention his name. DEADLINE FOR THE DECEMBER ISSUE OF THE FLAME Please submit to the Cathedral office all information for the December issue of The Flame by tomorrow, Monday, November 21, 2016. GOYA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CARD GOYA is once again ready to assist with your holiday greetings through its beautiful Community Christmas Card! Save precious time and postage, while supporting GOYA, by adding your name or organization to this year's Christmas card that will be mailed to the entire community. Proceeds from the holiday greetings project sustain the spiritual, service, social, and athletic activities of GOYA throughout the year. Look for the table in the Coffee Room, where you may complete your form and submit your donation of $20. The youth of Holy Trinity appreciate your support and wish you a joyous holiday season! EPIPHANY SWIMMERS The 4th Annual Epiphany Celebration will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Members of the community are encouraged to consider applying to be a Cross Retrieval swimmer. This is a wonderful opportunity to spiritually celebrate the baptism of Christ in the Jordan River by St. John the Forerunner as swimmers attempt to retrieve the blessed wooden cross from Bayou St. John in front of the Cathedral. The one, who retrieves the cross, receives a special blessing from the Church, a gold cross and chain, a personal plaque, and his name engraved on the Theophany Plaque in the Hellenic Cultural Center. All swimmers receive a special blessing in the Church prior to the swim, are honored for their participation in this celebration of our Faith, and are recognized at the Epiphany Luncheon Program. All GOYANS and young adults of the community are encouraged to consider being a swimmer for this event, which involves only about a minute in the water to swim to retrieve the cross. Swimmer applications are available in the Narthex and Cathedral office. Please submit applications by December 16. STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY December 4 is Stewardship Sunday 2017. Please look for more details in The Flame, next Sunday's bulletin, and your email. Also, if you still need to make or fulfill your 2016 pledge, please do so soon as 2016 is quickly coming to its end. Thank you again for your support. WELCOME VISITING CHANTER The Holy Trinity Cathedral family welcomes Demetrios Golfos from Mobile, Alabama. He is visiting the community and will assist with chanting during church services today.

Resurrection Apolytikion Plagal Tone 1 Let us worship the Word, O ye faithful, praising Him that with the Father and the Spirit is cobeginningless God, Who was born of a pure Virgin that we all be saved; for He was pleased to mount the Cross in the flesh that He assumed, accepting thus to endure death. And, by His glorious rising, He also willed to resurrect the dead. Apolytikion of the Forefeast Tone 4 By blossoming forth the only Ever-virgin as fruit, today holy Anna doth betroth us all unto joy, instead of our former grief; on this day she doth fulfill her vows to the Most High, leading her with joy into the Lord's holy temple, who truly is the temple and pure Mother of God the Word. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Tone 4 The whole world is filled today with joy and gladness on the auspicious and resplendent feast of the Theotokos, whereon with great voice it cries out: The heavenly tabernacle is she in truth.

EPISTLE Galatians 6:11-18 You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us. Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. BRETHREN, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. THE GOSPEL Luke 12:16-21 The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." As he said these things, he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
