Mode 4. Daniel 3.26,27 Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers. Verse: For you are just in all you have done. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:24-26, 32-40 Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated -- of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Bible Study The Bible Study will meet on Thursdays at 7pm beginning in Great Lent. See the dates on the calendar. Catechism Class The Catechism Class is open to anyone who would like to attend. You do not have to be a catechumen or inquirer, but if you would like to brush up on the foundations of your Orthodox Faith, please come! If you have any questions, please see Father Stephen and look in the calendar section of the bulletin each week for the next class. Sanctuary Lights The two Sanctuary Lights on the Holy Altar are replaced every Sunday and burn for one week. You may offer one or both of them for a loved one. Please contact Fr. Andrew if you would like to donate towards one or both. The cost is $10.00 each. Coffee Hour We need people to help us with the coffee hour. Dates when help is needed are: March 12, 19 and 26. STEWARDSHIP CORNER Stewardship 2017 Four Principles of Biblical Stewardship (Cont.) 3. The principal of accountability. A steward is one who manages the possessions of another. We are all stewards of the resources, abilities and opportunities and one day each of us will be called to give an account for how we have managed what the Master has given us. This is the maxim taught by the Parable of the Talents. God has entrusted authority over the creation to us. We are called to exercise our dominion under the watchful eye of our Creator managing his creation with love, dedication and faithfulness. Like the servants in the Parable of the Talents, we will be called to give an account of how we have administered the gifts of time, money, abilities, information, wisdom, relationships and authority. We thank those who are continuing stewards and to those who are new stewards of St. Nicholas.
