LENTEN AND PASCHAL DONATIONS The carnations that adorned the epitaphion during the Service of the Lamentations and Procession on Holy Friday were generously donated by Rosy and Thomas Mantis in memory of their parents Florenia and Elias Mantis and Ioanna and Theodore Potiris and grandfather Theodore Dangas. The Cathedral family sincerely thanks them for their gift, as well as all of the individuals and families that donated funds and essential items throughout Lent and Holy Week. May God bestow His blessings on them. PHILOPTOCHOS FOOD PANTRY Through April Philoptochos will collect nonperishable food items for the needy families of the community. Food items needed are rice, dry cereal, lentils, dry beans, pasta (any type), boxed meals that do not require anything added except water, flour, sugar, canned meat, canned fruit, and canned vegetables. All parishioners are asked to help with this worthy project. Items may be placed in the basket in the Coffee Room. Thank you for your support. CHILDREN'S AUTHOR TO VISIT NEXT SUNDAY Next Sunday, April 23, Holy Trinity will welcome Greek-American children s book author, Demetra Tsavaris-Lecourezos, who wrote the Young World Travelers Series. She will have copies of her two well-known children s books available for sale and book signing. The first book, Young World Travelers and the Magical Crystal Globe, kicks off a children s adventure from Tarpon Springs, Florida, to Queens, New York, incorporating concepts of magic, as well as sharing, manners, compassion, empathy, integrity, and more. The second book, Ready, Set, Opa!, is about a group of children, who travel the world on many exciting journeys, along with their magical crystal globe. These books serve as a reference library of places to visit, cultures, architecture, currency, food, and music of other lands. The books received high reviews and several awards. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the books will go to Holy Trinity Cathedral. Please welcome Demetra to Holy Trinity, speak with her, and view her books, which will be on display during the coffee reception after church on Sunday, April 23. Demetra will be available to answer questions and share details of her books.

I especially am thinking of our Egyptian brothers and sisters, whose Palm Sunday liturgies were disrupted by violence and death. In the face of such horror, one might ask: how can we hope? Theologians have greatly discussed our Lord s cry on the Cross, Eli Eli lama sabachthani? My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? For some, the very idea of Christ, the Son of God, addressing His own Father in such a way is deeply disturbing. Yet, what is beautiful about this moment is often missed. Christ is not speaking for Himself He is quoting the Psalms. The speaker of this particular Psalm is in pain; abused and at the mercy of those, who seek to destroy him. He calls out to God to deliver him from his torment for as the Psalmist later says, He hath not despised nor abhorred the lowliness of the poor; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto Him, He heard (Psalm 22:25). Consider that after the scourging and the crown of thorns, after the nails and the humiliation, Christ s concern is not for Himself. He cries out to show that He understands our uncertainty and pain in this world. Ever-loving and ever-compassionate, we know that neither His Father nor the Holy Spirit truly abandoned Him on that lonely hill, just as our Triune God will never abandon us. The Psalm continues with the triumphant reminder that the kingdom is the LORD S; and He is the ruler over the nations. My brothers, for this Feast of Feasts, let us never forget that the pain, sorrow, and suffering of this world, however immense, are temporary. Christ has vanquished Death! His earthly life and teachings act as a guide to help us attain eternal life, while His Resurrection is the key that has allowed all of us to finally reenter Paradise. As we prepare to receive the Paschal light during this year s Anastasi service, let us remember the Myrrh-bearing women, who went to the darkened tomb to weep over the sorrows of this world and instead saw the most life-affirming mystery; a mystery and wonder which granted light to all, proving once and forever that the kingdom is the LORD S! XPIΣTOΣ ANEΣTH! Christ is Risen! + A L E X I O S Metropolitan of Atlanta VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL Please save the dates for Vacation Church School June 12-16 from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm daily. The Hypakoe of Pascha Tone 4 When they who were with Mary came, anticipating the dawn, and found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre, they heard from the Angel: Why seek ye among the dead, as though He were mortal man, Him Who abides in everlasting light? THE EPISTLE Acts of the Apostles 1:1-8 IN THE FIRST BOOK, O Theophilos, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit." So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom of lsrael?" He said to them, "it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth." THE GOSPEL John 1:1-17 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'") And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
