FORTHCOMING EVENTS It was wonderful to see all the students return happy and safe after the school holidays. The last term is short, only eight weeks, yet packed with activities and study! Good luck to all the students as every year sits for final examinations. It is important that students begin to prepare summarising, revising and studying for the examinations well in advance! HOLY COMMUNION All students will be attending church on Thursday morning, 8 December. They are all encouraged to prepare and partake of Holy Communion. SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS On Monday, 7 November to Wednesday, 9 November, Year 10 will be sitting for the School Certificate examinations. The timetable is as follows: Years 7 to 10 Yearly Examinations will take place from Monday, 14 November to Friday, 18 November. All students are advised to begin revising and studying! YEARLY EXAMINATIONS Good luck to all students. YEAR 10 All Year 10 students will be completing the compulsory All My Own Work program in preparation for the senior years of High School. The program is designed to help Higher School Certificate students to follow the principles and practices of good scholarship. This includes understanding and valuing ethical practices when locating and using information as part of their HSC studies. Following this, Year 10 will finish school on Wednesday, 30 November. Monday: Tuesday: Friday: English-Literacy Science Mathematics Australian History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship Computing Skills PRESENTATION NIGHT The Principal and staff of the College invite all parents/guardians, students and friends to attend the Annual Presentation Evening on Thursday, 8 December at 7pm in the School Hall. It is a wonderful occasion where we celebrate the achievements of our students. All students are expected to attend in full school uniform, as the final yearly reports are distributed at the end of the evening. YEAR 12 FAREWELL DINNER On Thursday, 22 September, The School and P&F held a Farewell Breakfast and Dinner for the Year 12 class of 2011. Both functions were convivial and yet emotional as the students celebrated the conclusion of their school life. Congratulations must go to the Year Adviser Ms Efthymiou and the President of the P&F, Ms Hantes who worked arduously so that both events were a magnificent success. We all wish Year 12 the best of luck in the HSC Examinations and in their future endeavours.
SRC NEWS TERM 4 2011 The Students Representative Council of St Euphemia College has had another productive year in 2011. To date, The SRC has supported initiatives such as fundraising for the ESTIA Foundation. The SRC has also provided much support for Year 12 in their fundraising activities towards a present for St Euphemia College, an annual tradition at our School. Such activities have included mufti days, school dances and a barbecue at the Athletics Carnival. Other highlights have included celebrations during Easter, whereby students from the SRC along with other volunteers from our student body helped in the decorating of the Epitaph and the carrying of the Epitaph on Good Friday at St Euphemia Church. The SRC continues to provide a voice for students in the everyday running of the School with regular meetings being held throughout the year. The SRC is made up of elected representatives from Years 7 to 11 and the Year 12 Prefect Body. At the end of Term 3, the Year 12 students of 2011 completed their school year, graduating from St Euphemia College. Elections were held to select a Prefect body for next year. These will include a Mufti Day and an end of year School Dance. Also in Term 4, elections will be held amongst students from Years 7 to10, to select the SRC representatives for 2012. YEAR 11 RETREAT St Anna s Warmly Welcomes St Euphemia College Students As part of the Year 11 Spiritual Retreat to Queensland, students were invited to participate in an English Liturgy conducted by Father Romanos Stergiou and pray with the President, James Nides, members of the Women s Auxiliary and Philoptohos, as well as youth members of St Anna s fellowship Parea at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Anna, Gold Coast. From the moment students and staff entered the church of St Anna, they felt a great sense of fellowship. Father Romanos Stergiou wholeheartedly and sincerely welcomed the students and staff to the Gold Coast. In addition to communion, Father Romanos provided pastoral guidance to the Year 11 students, highlighting the importance of prioritising one s faith. He shared his fond memories of growing up in Sydney and studying at St Andrews Theological College Sydney with Father Panayiotis and Mr. Zouriakas. Following the liturgy, students were asked to gather for a photo in front of St Anna s church in order to document our visit to their parish. This is just one example of how St Anna s Parish Priest, President James Nides, the youth and the resident photographer, made St Euphemia College students feel as though their presence was of great importance and a moment to treasure. Following the photo, the President of the Gold Coast Parea Committee, Dimitri Bourne and other members, such as Katerina Sen took the opportunity to talk to Year 11 students and staff introducing themselves. The evening continued at a seafood restaurant where the evening s feast was generously hosted by the Women s Auxiliary and Philoptohos of St Anna. Students had the opportunity to meet other members of the Youth Committee Parea and continued forging friendships over dinner. Staff enjoyed conversing with Father Romanos, Mr. Nides and members of the women auxiliary and was humbled by the reception and philanthropy of the St Anna community. Year 11 students, Stephanie Papaioannou and Theodore Anaxagorou presented Father Romanos and the Mr. Nides and members of the Women s Auxiliary and Philoptohos with gifts as a sign of appreciation for their pastoral care, time and hospitality. However, it was clear that the members of St Anna s parish were more than happy to have us visit their beloved church. St Euphemia College students ended the evening extending an invitation for any member of St Anna s Parish to visit us and for us to reciprocate their hospitality.
ΝΕΑ ΤΟΥ ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟΥ ΚΑΛΩΣΟΡΙΣΜΑ Καλωσορίζουμε τους μαθητές στο τελευταίο τρίμηνο της χρονιάς. Αν και το τρίμηνο αυτό έχει μόνο εννέα εβδομάδες θα είναι φορτωμένο με γεγονότα και αρκετή μελέτη. Ευχόμαστε Καλή Επιτυχία στους μαθητές που θα δώσουν τελικές εξετάσεις. Είναι πολύ σημαντικό οι μαθητές να κάνουν περιλήψεις και επανάληψη των μαθημάτων για να προετοιμαστούν για τις εξετάσεις. ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΕΣ ΕΞΕΤΑΣΕΙΣ ΤΗΣ Α ΛΥΚΕΙΟΥ (SCHOOL CERTIFICATE) Οι Απολυτήριες Εξετάσεις της Α Λυκείου θα διεξαχθούν από τη Δευτέρα 7 Νοεμβρίου έως την Τετάρτη 9 Νοεμβρίου, 2011. Οι μαθητές θα διαγωνιστούν στα ακόλουθα μαθήματα: Δευτέρα: Αγγλικά Επιστήμες Τρίτη: Μαθηματικά Ιστορία, Γεωγραφία και Αγωγή του Πολίτη Τετάρτη: Πληροφορική ΤΕΛΙΚΕΣ ΕΞΕΤΑΣΕΙΣ Οι εξετάσεις για τους μαθητές της Α Γυμνασίου Α Λυκείου θα διεξαχθούν από τη Δευτέρα 14 έως την Παρασκευή 18 Νοεμβρίου 2011. Ευχόμαστε σε όλους τους μαθητές Καλή Επιτυχία! Α ΛΥΚΕΙΟΥ Για να προετοιμαστούν οι μαθητές της Α Λυκείου για τη Β και Γ Λυκείου, είναι υποχρεωτικό να ολοκληρώσουν το πρόγραμμα «All My Own Work». Ο σκοπός του προγράμματος είναι να προετοιμάσει τους μαθητές να ακολουθήσουν τις βασικές αρχές και εφαρμογές της ευρυμάθειας. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει την κατανόηση και την αξιολόγηση ηθικών αρχών καθώς ερευνούν και χρησιμοποιούν πληροφορίες κατά την προετοιμασία των Απολυτήριων Εξετάσεων Λυκείου (HSC). Οι μαθητές θα πάρουν μέρος σε αυτό το πρόγραμμα τη Δευτέρα 28 Νοεμβρίου. Η Α Λυκείου τελειώνει κανονικά την Τετάρτη 30 Νοεμβρίου 2011. ΘΕΙΑ ΚΟΙΝΩΝΙΑ Την Πέμπτη 8 Δεκεμβρίου θα έχουμε εκκλησιασμό για όλους τους μαθητές. Οι μαθητές θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να μεταλάβουν αν έχουν προετοιμαστεί κατάλληλα.
ΑΠΟΝΟΜΗ ΒΡΑΒΕΙΩΝ Ο Διευθυντής και οι καθηγητές του Κολλεγίου προσκαλούν τους γονείς/κηδεμόνες, μαθητές και φίλους στην ετήσια βραδιά Απονομής Βραβείων. Η βραδιά έχει οργανωθεί για την Πέμπτη 8 Δεκεμβρίου, ώρα 7.00μ.μ. στην αίθουσα του σχολείου. Η Απονομή Βραβείων είναι μια σημαντική βραδιά γιατί δίνεται η ευκαιρία στους μαθητές να βραβευτούν για τις ακαδημαϊκές ικανότητές τους. Οι μαθητές πρέπει να παρευρεθούν με την σχολική στολή τους. Επίσης, στο τέλος της βραδιάς θα δοθούν οι έλεγχοι στους μαθητές. Συγχαρητήρια σε όλους τους μαθητές. ΠΡΩΤΟ ΤΡΙΜΗΝΟ 2012 Η σχολική χρονιά του 2012 θα αρχίσει για όλους τους μαθητές τη Δευτέρα 30 Ιανουαρίου. Ευχόμαστε στις οικογένειες του Κολλεγίου Καλά Χριστούγεννα και χαρούμενες διακοπές. Χ.
