This prescription of a healthy spiritual life should be the norm not just of Council Members but of all Orthodox Christians. If you share these priorities it is the church s hope and prayer that you would submit your name as a candidate for the Parish Council no later than Friday November 9 2012. Elections will be held on December 2 2012. By fully realizing the importance of the service offered to the Church by members of the Parish Council a person assumes a spiritual position that demands love fidelity and dedication to the Holy Orthodox Church. As an official representative of the Church Council Members will make every effort to exemplify its sacred character and spirit. Sunday of the 7th Ecumenical Council The Gospel of Luke 8:5-15 The Lord said this parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed some fell along the path and was trodden under foot and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up it withered away because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold." And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant he said "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables so that seeing they may not see and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who when they hear the word receive it with joy; but these have no root they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns they are those who hear but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil they are those who hearing the word hold it fast in an honest and good heart and bring forth fruit with patience." As he said these things he cried out "He who has ears to hear let him hear." WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are only permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. Please join us in the Education Center from 10:30 to 12:30 for coffee and a light brunch. All of our organizations and ministries will be available to you. HOSPITAL VISITS Salem Hospital is making a change in order to be in compliance with new privacy laws. This change will mean that we will no longer receive the list of Orthodox patients in the hospital. So if you or a loved one will be in the hospital please call the church office so that we can pay you a pastoral visit. This change will also affect Beverly Hospital as well. Also families of people in nursing home please call the church office so that their names will be included on the list of residents.
