In the context of this problem and on the basis of approaches and analyses of Eurostat important factors are examined which are related to the demographic stability, population growth, aging control, life expectancy etc. More generally these factors underline the positive contribution of migration/refugee flows on demographic developments as well as the ability to tackle the demographic crisis, taking into account the European, national and regional fertility indicators of the EU Member States. In the next sections we attempt to present an analysis of the consequences on the overall social and economic development of Greece, which has a low fertility index (like the other countries of southern Europe) and a large "gap" between employees and retirees, as well as problems in the financing of social security, health and social protection systems.
