Sunday of Orthodoxy On this Day We Also Commemorate: Tarasius, Patriarch of Constantinople; Reginos, Bishop of Skopelos; and Holy Martyr Alexander of Thrace Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the Fourth Tone Because of the finding of your holy relics, wise one, * the Island of Lesvos has been filled fully with the grace, * which God richly gave to you. * You, O devout martyr Raphael, paradoxically * appeared to many people, and you grant cures and healings. * And therefore we the faithful re-joice in all your miracles. Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the First Tone To the offspring of Ithaca, the pride and joy of Lesvos, * monastic martyrs glory, let us offer to Raphael our songs of praise; * for lately he appeared, and pours out cures and healings to us all. * Inexplicably he appears to believers, both in dreams and awake, who cry: * Glory to Christ who gave you His might. * Glory to Him who gave you miracles. * Glory to Him who through you fulfills our prayerful requests. Apolytikion in honor of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Having contended on Lesvos for the sake of Christ God, you have sanctified the island since the discovery of your sacred relics, O blessed ones; wherefore we honor you, O Godbearing Raphael, together with Nicholas and virgin Irene, as our divine protectors and intercessors with the Lord. Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom Singers and Chanters: Richard Bethune, Tabitha Bethune, Geoff & Elise Brueggen, Anthony Birozes, David Boyd, Lynne Lucher, and Jimmy Smith Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal of the First Tone Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate * with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born * for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. * For in His goodness He was pleased * to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, * and to raise up those who had died, * by His glorious Resurrection. Apolytikion of the Feast in the Second Tone We venerate Your immaculate icon, O good Lord, and entreat You to forgive our offences, O Christ our God. By Your own choice you were pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, to deliver us, whom You created, from our slavery to the foe. Therefore we cry to You with gratitude: You have filled all things with joy, O our Savior, by coming to save the world. Seasonal Kontakion in the Plagal of the Fourth Tone To you, the champion leader, we your flock dedicate a feast of victory and of thanksgiving, as ones rescued out of suff rings, O Theotokos; but as you are one with might which is invincible, from all dangers that can be deliver us, that we may cry to you: Rejoice, O Bride unwedded.

EPISTLE READING Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Daniel 3.26,27 Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers. Verse: For you are just in all you have done. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:24-26, 32-40 Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated -- of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

THE GOSPEL READING The Gospel According to John 1:43-51 At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."

PRAYERS BEFORE HOLY COMMUNION I believe and confess, Lord, that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. I also believe that this is truly Your pure Body and that this is truly Your precious Blood. Therefore, I pray to You, have mercy upon me, and forgive my transgressions, voluntary and involuntary, in word and deed, in knowledge or in ignorance. And make me worthy, without condemnation, to partake of Your pure Mysteries for the remission of sins and for eternal life. Amen. How shall I, who am unworthy, enter into the splendor of Your saints? If I should dare to enter into the bridal chamber, my vesture will condemn me, since it is not a wedding garment; and being bound up, I shall be cast out by the angels. Cleanse, O Lord, the filth of my soul, and save me, as You are the one Who loves mankind. In Your love, Lord, cleanse my soul, and save me. Master Who loves mankind, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, let not these Holy Gifts be to my judgment because I am unworthy, but rather for the purification and sanctification of both soul and body and the pledge of the life and Kingdom to come. It is good for me to cleave unto God and to place in Him the hope of my salvation. O Son of God, receive me today as a partaker of Your mystical supper. For I will not speak of the mystery to Your enemies, nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas. But like the thief, I confess to You: Remember me, Lord, in Your Kingdom.

Prayers at the End of each Service sung by the Congregation You have probably noticed that toward the end of the service the priest says prayers in front of the Altar and the Chanters will also sing halfway through the Prayers. It almost sounds like they are competing with the priest. They are actually saying a short prayer for our priest asking the Lord to answer our prayers for the priest who also prays for us. It is short and pretty and we are asking the parishioners to join in the prayer. We will take our cue from the Chanters whether Greek or English. This is prayed at pages 68/69 of the new Liturgy book. English: Lord, protect for many years the one who blesses and sanctifies us. Phonetic for the Greek: Ton ev-lo-goun -ta ke a-gi-a -zon-ta i-m-as, Ki -ri-e fi-la-te, ei-s po-la eti. The a is a short a pronounced as in ma; The e is a short e and pronounced as both e s in ever; The i is a short i and is pronounced as in his; The o is a long o as in omega; The ei is a diphthong and is pronounced as a long e as in equal.

PARISH NEWS Feasibility Study: Your parish leadership has begun to proceed with the first steps of exploring a vision for the parish over the next three to five years in order to provide for the continued spiritual growth of our children and future generations of Greek Orthodox faithful in the parish community-at-large. Before any decisions are made however, we would like to ensure our community s input is included in the final plan. In order to gather your thoughts on the plan and the fund raising program, we have engaged Jerry Minetos from the Orthodox Parish Development to conduct a series of confidential interviews with our parishioners whose opinions and advice we deem essential. Below is the schedule for appointments with Jerry. If you have any questions, you can email Rusty Waldron at rustywaldron@hotmail.com. (Ps. 115:17, Septuagint) Lord, I have loved the beauty of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells. (Ps. 25:8, Septuagint) Come, all you people, let us all sing to Christ God, Who divided the sea, and made a way for the people which He had brought up out of the bondage of Egypt; for He is glorified. (Canon of Preparation for Holy Communion, Ode One Heirmos) God s people are called to praise Him and sing to Him in gratitude for all He has done for our salvation. We do this in every service of the Church. The Readers assist in this work of the people by reading the Psalms, Old Testament Prophecies, Epistles, and other prayers during the services. The Choir assists the people by leading them in singing to God, and helping to beautify our worship to His glory. If you are interested in becoming a Lay Reader and/or a member of the Choir, please contact Lynne Lucher at lalucher@gmail.com for more information. Currently we have Choir rehearsal each Sunday at12:30 p.m., for about a half hour.

Lenten Boxes given to Sunday School Students Sunday School Ministry Here is a picture of the Mission Coin Boxes that we are handing out this Sunday to the students. They have the entire Lent season to collect coins and bills. Also, adults can see Elise Brueggen after the service if they would like to have one for themselves. We will collect them at the end of Lent. All the money that we collect will be used to help Orthodox Christians who serve as missionaries, volunteer for Mission Teams and support the mission ministries of the Church to take the Gospel to people around the world.
