2 ΧΕΝΙΑ, DEACONESS OF ROME Our righteous Mother Xenia of Rome was of a distinguished family. While her parents were preparing to wed her, she stole away secretly, taking two handmaids with her, and departed for Mylasa of Karia in Asia Minor, and there she completed her life in asceticism. She was ordained deaconess by Paul, her spiritual father, who became Bishop of Mylasa. Although she was originally named Eusebia, to conceal her identity, she took the name Xenia - which means "stranger" in Greek - because of her estrangement from her country. ΟΣΙΑ ΞΕΝΗ Η Αγία Ξένη καταγόταν από τη Ρώμη και από γενιά τιμημένη και εύπορη. Οι γονείς της επιθυμούσαν να την νυμφεύσουν. Ενώ όμως είχαν τα πάντα ετοιμασθεί για τον γάμο, εκείνη εγκατέλειψε τη νυφική παστάδα, παίρνοντας μαζί της και δύο πιστές της θεραπαινίδες και διά θαλάσσης έφθασε στην πόλη των Μυλασών. Στα Μύλασα μάλλον πήγε και εγκαταστάθηκε, ύστερα από συμβουλή του μακαρίου μοναχού Παύλου, ο οποίος εμφανίστηκε στην Οσία μετά από θείο φωτισμό, όταν εκείνη πέρασε από την Αλεξάνδρεια και έγινε ο πνευματικός της καθοδηγητής. Στην πόλη των Μυλασών, η Οσία Ξένη έκτισε ιερό ναό προς τιμήν του Πρωτομάρτυρος Στεφάνου. Εκεί κτίσθηκαν και κελιά όπου διέμεναν η Ξένη, οι δύο θεραπαινίδες και λίγες άλλες παρθένες. Entrance with Gospel (This act of worship symbolizes the coming of Christ, who is God s wisdom on earth. The Choir sings one of the dismissal hymns of the Resurrection - The Priest comes forth from the Sanctuary, bearing the Gospel. He is preceded by the Altar boys holding candlesticks. Facing the Royal gate of the Iconostasion, he elevates the Gospel and chants:) Wisdom! Let us rise! Come, let us worship and bow unto Christ. Save us, O Son of God, Who didst rise from the dead; sace us who sing unto Thee: Alleluia. FATHER NICHOLAS MESSAGE Dear faithful, life s greatest opportunity for us is that Jesus is passing as He passed by in today s Gospel reading. He continuously knocks on the door of our heart. He reveals Himself to us in the Bible. He speaks to us through the sacraments. He is always just a prayer away from us. Let us NOT shut Christ out of our hearts and out of our lives. His arms are always extended out for us, let us extend our arms out to Him.
