2 HIEROTHEUS, BISHOP OF ATHENS According to some, Hierotheus, like Saint Dionysius, was a member of the court of Mars Hill. Having first been instructed in the Faith of Christ by Paul, he became Bishop of Athens. He, in turn, initiated the divine Dionysius more perfectly into the mysteries of Christ; the latter, on his part, elaborated more clearly and distinctly Hierotheus' concise and summary teachings concerning the Faith. He too was brought miraculously by the power of the Holy Spirit to be present at the Dormition of the Theotokos, when, together with the sacred Apostles, he became a leader of the divine hymnody. "He was wholly transported, wholly outside himself and was so deeply absorbed in communion with the sacred things he celebrated in hymnology, that to all who heard him and saw him and knew him, and yet knew him not, he seemed to be inspired of God, a divine hymnographer," as Dionysius says (On the Divine Names, 3:2). ΙΕΡΟΘΕΟΣ, ΕΠΙΣΚΟΠΟΣ ΑΘΗΝΩΝ Σύμφωνα με διάφορες μαρτυρίες, ο Ιερόθεος, όπως και ο Άγιος Διονύσιος, ήταν μέλος της Γερουσίας του Αρείου Πάγου. Αφού δέχθηκε και διδάχθηκε την πίστη του Χριστού από τον Απόστολο Παύλο, χειροτονήθηκε πρώτος επίσκοπος Αθηνών. Μαθητής του υπήρξε ο Άγιος Διονύσιος ο Αρεοπαγίτης (3 Οκτωβρίου), ο οποίος στα συγγράμματά του πλέκει εγκώμια για τον δάσκαλό του. Ο Άγιος Ιερόθεος υπήρξε μεγάλος εις την αρετή, σοφία και αγιότητα. Έζησε ζωή αγγελική. Ανέλαβε αποστολική διακονία και την εξετέλεσε. Με λόγια, με συγγράμματα, με έργα και αγώνες διέδωσε την Αλήθεια της Πίστεως. Αρχιεράτευσε ως ιεράρχης κανονικά και νόμιμα και ευαρέστησε εις τον Θεό. Εξεπλήρωσε τα διδασκαλικά του καθήκοντα πλήρως. Αυτός με τα έργα του, τα βιβλία του και τους λόγους του παρουσίασε στον κόσμο την ένσαρκο οικονομία του Χριστού. Ο Άγιος Ιερόθεος έπειτα από πολλά κατορθώματα και αγώνες, εκοιμήθη εν ειρήνη εις βαθύτατον γήρας επί Νέρωνος (54-68) και αξιώθηκε της Βασιλείας του Θεού. Μπορείτε να τους συναντήσετε και να μάθετε περισσότερα για το πρόγραμμα, και για τα όσα μαθαίνουν τα παιδιά σας. Μπορείτε να υποβάλλετε τις ερωτήσεις σας, καθώς και να συλλέξετε περισσότερες πληροφορίες για τη μουσική εκπαίδευση και τους ύμνους που τους διδάσκονται. Τα παιχνίδια ποδοσφαίρου του Rutgers έχουν ήδη ξεκινήσει, και χρειαζόμαστε για άλλη μία χρονιά εθελοντές για το παρκάρισμα των αυτοκινήτων. Το επόμενο παιχνίδι είναι το Σάββατο 10 Οκτωβρίου Εάν δεν έχετε πληρώσει ήδη την οικονομική σας εισφορά για το 2015, παρακαλούμε όπως το τακτοποιήσετε το συντομότερο δυνατό. Μπορείτε να βρείτε σχετικές κάρτες στο Νάρθηκα, ή μπορείτε να αποτανθείτε σε έναν από τους Επιτρόπους μας προκειμένου να σας βοηθήσει σχετικά. Παρακαλούνται όσοι έχουν αφήσει αντικείμενά τους στην ιματιοθήκη ή και αλλού, όπως τα παραλάβουν άμεσα έως 30 Νοεμβρίου, ειδάλλως θα δοθούν σε φιλανθρωπικές οργανώσεις. Προς ενημέρωσή σας, τα καντήλια των εικόνων έχουν αποσταλεί για επιδιόρθωση. Η Επιτροπή για την επέτειο των 100 χρόνων του Αγίου Γεωργίου χρειάζεται τη βοήθειά σας! Today is the absolute last day to submit your journal ad for this year s Journal. Please visit the AHEPA Hall and our Committee members will help you with any questions, etc. The Rutgers football season has begun and there are several more home games. Again we are parking cars in our lot. Volunteers needed to help. Next home game is Saturday, October 10th. Our Church is in need of incense, preferably a rose or jasmine scent. If you can offer some to the Church, it would be greatly appreciated. Please see Fr. Nick for more details. Next Thursday, October 8th, 2015 at 7pm is the next Bible Study Meeting. Please come and join us. If anyone has left any clothing in the coat room or elsewhere within the community, you have until November 30th to remove it, after that they will be given to charity. 5 Για τον Χριστιανό δεν πρέπει να υπάρχει διάκριση μεταξύ φίλου και εχθρού, διότι η χριστιανική αγάπη συμπεριλαμβάνει όλους τους ανθρώπους. Ο ίδιος ο Χριστός εφάρμοσε αυτό καθ όλον τον βίο του, όταν ζητούσε από το Θεό συγχώρεση για τον ίδιο και για όσους τον κακοποιούσαν. Πρέπει δε, να βοηθάμε εκείνους οι οποίοι χρειάζονται τη βοήθειά μας όπως και να τους θεραπεύουμε καλούς και κακούς. Αν τα κάνουμε όλα αυτά, τότε δικαίως μπορούμε να είμαστε παιδιά του Θεού. Εξακολουθεί να υπάρχει ένας μεγάλος αριθμός οικογενειών, ατόμων και νέων (άνω των 18, οι οποίοι εργάζονται), που δεν έχουν στείλει την οικονομική τους προσφορά προς τον Άγιο Γεώργιο. Επομένως, οι οικογένειες και τα άτομα αυτά δε θεωρούνται ενεργά μέλη και υποστηρικτές της Εκκλησίας μας. Λόγω της αποχής αυτών των ατόμων και των οικογενειών, η ευθύνη να παραμείνουν οι πόρτες της εκκλησίας ανοικτές, πέφτει στους ώμους όλων ημών που έχουμε στείλει την οικονομική μας ενίσχυση με την ετήσιά μας συνδρομή. Για όσους δεν το έχουν πράξει ακόμη, εύχομαι ο Κύριος να εμπνεύσει τις καρδίες και τη συνείδησή τους ώστε να αντιληφθούν τη σπουδαιότητα της συμμετοχής όλων μας στην οικονομική ενίσχυση της Εκκλησίας μας. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 6 The Gospel of Luke The Lord said, "And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful." By always speaking to them with a tone of love, we can eventually make them forget their bitter attitude towards us. Be ye merciful, as your Father is also merciful. Love enables us to be patient under trouble; slow to anger; to forgive injuries; to be kind to our enemies; to deny ourselves; to do good to our neighbors; to mourn over the faults and afflictions of others; to kindly bear with the infirmities of all; and makes the present life like a little heaven among ourselves, while it strongly recommends us to the esteem of others. A great writer wrote: Love is the only bow on life s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the cradle of the baby and sheds its radiance upon the quiet tomb. It is the mother of Art, inspirer of poet, patriot of philosopher. It is the air and light of every heart, builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It fills the world with melody, for music is the voice of love. Love is the magician, the enchanter that changes worthless things to joy and makes right royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of the wondrous flower - the heart - and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven and we are gods. STEWARDSHIP There continues to be many families, individuals, and young adults over the age of 18 who are gainfully employed, that have not made a Stewardship commitment to St. George. Therefore, these families, individuals and young adults are considered as Non-Stewardship supporters of the Church and parish. Because of their lack of support, the burden of keeping the doors of the Church open, falls on those of us who have made a financial commitment. For those who have not made your Stewardship commitment to St. George, I pray that the Lord will enlighten your heart and open your mind to realize how important it is for all of us to support our Church. For those who have met your Stewardship commitment, I thank you very much and may the Lord bless you always! Fr. Nick ΜΗΝΥΜΑ ΠΑΤΕΡΑ ΝΙΚΟΛΑΟΥ «Καθώς θέλετε ἵνα ποιῶσιν ὑμῖν οἱ ἄνθρωποι, ποιεῖτε αὐτοῖς ὁμοίως». Σε αυτή την περικοπή συμπεριλαμβάνεται ο Χρυσός Κανόνας. Το θεμέλιο της Χριστιανικής αγάπης βασίζεται σε αυτόν τον κανόνα, διότι ο Χριστιανός οφείλει να κάνει το καλό όχι μόνο σε όσους βοηθούν και τον ευεργετούν, αλλά και σε αυτούς ακόμη οι οποίοι τον μισούν και τον εχθρεύονται. Η ανταπόδοση του καλού αντί κακού έχει τη βάση της στη διδασκαλία του Ιησού προς τους μαθητές Του, από τους οποίους εμείς λάβαμε αυτή την ορθή διδασκαλία.
