U.S. Postage Winston-Salem, NC Permit # 168 Reverend and dear Father Demetrios, Members of the Parish Council, and Faithful of the Church of the Annunciation, With the shared sentiments of my beloved Brother in Christ, Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta and all the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod, I write to you today to thank you for the magnitude of Christian responsibility that you have shown by embracing so willingly and sacrificially the sacred task of the rebuilding of Saint Nicholas Church, the only church destroyed in the horrific acts of September 11, It is a particularly meaningful act as you are not simply helping to resurrect a church structure but more importantly that you are participating in the rebuilding of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox National Shrine, a national and global symbol that speaks to faithful of the life giving power of Christ and to the people of this country of Orthodoxy as a major Faith on the American landscape. Please know that on November 28, 2016 a six foot three inch Justinian Cross was secured carefully on the dome structure of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox National Shrine signifying an important milestone towards the completion of the church's construction. What a blessed moment in the life of the Church in America and a joyous day that demonstrated the triumph of the human spirit and the victory of the Cross in our lives. Kindly know how deeply appreciative I am of this act of valued stewardship on your community's behalf I look forward to the day when we will worship in this sacred edifice resurrected by the love, determination, and unity of faithful as yourselves who believe that all things are possible with God (Mark 10:27). They all did a wonderful job honoring the Three Hierarches. BRAVO!!! In the last GPTO meeting we adopted the "re-mind" one way texting system. This will help us to communicate instant messages and reminders to our Greek School parents. All you have to do is to and you will start receiving Greek School info. Please do this asap in order to improve our communication. We are now preparing for the March 25th program so please encourage your children to practice. 6 We ve lost two more beloved parishioners recently. Presbytera Marika Canavos and George Kappas. May their memories be eternal. We pray for their families and their grief. Presbytera shared her husband with our church family for many, many years! George Kappas taught an adult Sunday School class that I attended always shared such wonderful information and always giving Christ the glory. We appreciate both of their sacrifices. It just so happens that Virginia Moutos will be teaching those of us that don t know how to make Kolyva at our meeting this month, Feb 8. How sweet, that we will be focused on that for such a time as this in our community. Please young girls come who would like to know how this is done. 7 It was Pancake-Pajama day at ACA last week! Everyone arrived wearing their fuzzy pajamas, carried their favorite stuffed animal or blankie, and enjoyed some delicious pancakes for breakfast. At the end of the day, we lined up and went on a parade to show off our cool pajamas to everyone! Thank you Dukes restaurant for providing our school with delicious pancakes again this year! Nick is a nephew to Nitsa and a cousin to George and Arthur Bambalis. Anyone who knows Nick knows that he is a giver but now he needs your help! He was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Since his diagnosis, he has undergone chemotherapy; however, a bone marrow transplant is his only chance for a cure. Nick s Greek ancestry is making it difficult to find a match for him. We will have a bone marrow registration drive on February 5 th after Divine Liturgy. All it takes to join is simple paperwork and swabbing your cheek! GOYA SKI TRIP We are still trying to schedule a ski trip for GOYA sometime during the month of February. Please watch your s and social media for upcoming announcements. Congratulations to all our Winter Youth Rally participants. We were very successful in our competitions Winning First Place in Bible Bowl, First and Third Place in Ladies Volleyball, and the young men won the First Place Trophy in basketball. Please join us on Sunday February 5th, to recognize them and HDF participants at the end of services. CHANGE FOR CHANGE YOUTH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM Due to snow days, HDF, Godparent/ Godchild Sunday, and other calendar challenges we will begin our Change for Change program on Sunday February 12th. Our Sunday School youth are asked to bring their spare change or a dollar to donate as they are going to Sunday School. The money collected will be given directly to a local or Orthodox charity on a quarterly basis. We hope this effort will help develop a spirit of giving in our youth and also to help affect positive change in our community.
