12 72 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite, of Bethlehem Juda, before mentioned, whose name was Isai, who had eight sons, and was an old man in the days of Saul, and of great age among men. 73 And his three eldest sons followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle, were Eliab, the firstborn, and the second, Abinadab, and the third Samma: 74 But David was the youngest. Ολνκάδνληαλ ν πξσηόηνθνο Διηάβ, ν δεύηεξνο Αβηλαδάβ θαη ν ηξίηνο Σακκά. Ο Γαβίδ ήηαλ ν λεόηεξνο. Ο Γαβίδ πήγαηλε θαη ππεξεηνύζε ην Σανύι αιιά μαλαγύξηδε ζηε Βεζιεέκ, γηα λα βόζθεη ηα πξόβαηα ηνπ παηέξα ηνπ.

23 6 Σαξάληα κέξεο ν Γνιηάζ πξνρσξνύζε πξσί θαη βξάδπ πξνο ηνπο Ιζξαειίηεο θαη ζηεθόηαλ αληίθξπ ηνπο. 7 Μηα κέξα ν Ιεζζαί είπε ζην Γαβίδ, ην γην ηνπ: «Πάξε, γηα ηνπο αδεξθνύο ζνπ έλα εθά θξπγαληζκέλν ζηάξη θη απηά ηα δέθα θαξβέιηα ςσκί θαη ηξέμε λα ηα παο ζην ζηξαηόπεδν, ζηνπο αδεξθνύο ζνπ. 8 Κη απηά ηα δέθα θεθάιηα θξέζθν ηπξί πήγαηλέ ηα ζην ρηιίαξρν. Μάζε πώο είλαη νη αδεξθνί ζνπ, θαη πάξε απ απηνύο θάπνην ζεκάδη, γηα λα βεβαησζώ πσο είλαη θαιά. 9 Βξίζθνληαη καδί κε ην Σανύι θαη κ όιν ηνλ ηζξαειηηηθό ζηξαηό ζηελ Κνηιάδα ησλ Τεξεβίλζσλ πνιεκώληαο ηνπο Φηιηζηαίνπο». 20 Ο Γαβίδ ζεθώζεθε λσξίο ην πξσί, άθεζε ηα πξόβαηα ζ έλαλ θύιαθα, πήξε ηα πξάγκαηα θαη πήγε όπσο ηνλ δηέηαμε ν Ιεζζαί. Δθηαζε ζην πεξηραξάθσκα, ηελ ώξα πνπ ν ζηξαηόο πξνρσξνύζε λα πάξεη ζέζε γηα ηε κάρε θξαπγάδνληαο ηελ πνιεκηθή θξαπγή. 2 Οη Ιζξαειίηεο θαη νη Φηιηζηαίνη είραλ παξαηαρζεί γηα πόιεκν, ν έλαο απέλαληη ζηνλ άιινλ. 22 Ο Γαβίδ άθεζε ζηε θξνληίδα ηνπ θύιαθα ησλ απνζθεπώλ ηα πξάγκαηα πνπ είρε θέξεη, θη ν ίδηνο έηξεμε ζηηο γξακκέο ηνπ ζηξαηεύκαηνο. Μόιηο έθηαζε εθεί, ξώηεζε ηνπο αδεξθνύο ηνπ γηα ηελ πγεία ηνπο. 23 Κη ελώ κηινύζε καδί ηνπο, βγήθε από ηηο γξακκέο ησλ Φηιηζηαίσλ ν κνλνκάρνο πνιεκηζηήο από ηε Γαζ, ν Γνιηάζ, θη άξρηζε λα μαλαιέεη ηα ίδηα εθείλα ιόγηα. Καη ηνλ άθνπζε ν Γαβίδ. 24 Οη Ιζξαειίηεο, όηαλ ηνλ έβιεπαλ έθεπγαλ από κπξνζηά ηνπ ηξνκαγκέλνη 25 θη έιεγαλ κεηαμύ ηνπο: «Βιέπεηε απηόλ ηνλ άληξα, πνπ πξνρσξάεη θαηά δσ; Δξρεηαη πάιη γηα λα πξνθαιέζεη ηνπο Ιζξαειίηεο. Οπνηνο κπνξέζεη λα ηνλ ζθνηώζεη, ν βαζηιηάο ζα ηνλ γεκίζεη πινύηε, ζα ηνπ δώζεη ηελ θόξε ηνπ γηα γπλαίθα θαη ζ απαιιάμεη ην παηξηθό ηνπ ζπίηη από ηνπο θόξνπο.

24 26 Τόηε ν Γαβίδ, ξώηεζε ηνπο άληξεο γύξσ ηνπ: «Τη ζα θάλνπλ ζ εθείλνλ πνπ ζα ζθνηώζεη απηόλ ην Φηιηζηαίν θαη ζα μεπιύλεη ηελ ληξνπή απ ηνπο Ιζξαειίηεο; Μα πνηνο είλαη ινηπόλ, απηόο ν απεξίηκεηνο, πνπ μεπηειίδεη έηζη ηα ζηξαηεύκαηα ηνπ αιεζηλνύ Θενύ;» 27 Οη ζηξαηηώηεο ηνύ είπαλ πάιη πνηα ήηαλ ε ακνηβή γηα όπνηνλ ζα ζθόησλε ην Φηιηζηαίν. 28 Ο Διηάβ, ν κεγαιύηεξνο αδεξθόο ηνπ, όηαλ άθνπζε ην Γαβίδ λα κηιάεη κε ηνπο ζηξαηηώηεο, νξγίζηεθε ελαληίνλ ηνπ θαη ηνπ είπε: «Γηαηί ήξζεο εδώ; Σε πνηνλ η άθεζεο ηα ιίγα εθείλα πξόβαηα ζηελ έξεκν; Δγώ μέξσ ηελ αιαδνλεία ζνπ θαη ηελ θαθία ζνπ. Σίγνπξα ήξζεο γηα λα δεηο ηε κάρε». 29 «Τη θαθό έθαλα ινηπόλ;» είπε ν Γαβίδ. «Γελ κπνξώ λα ξσηήζσ θάηη;» 30 Αθεζε ηνλ αδεξθό ηνπ θαη ζηξάθεθε ζ έλαλ άιιν.
