Today, he is con-celebrating the Divine Liturgy with Father George and is offering the homily. It is indeed a pleasure to have him visit HTC. CATHEDRAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios blessed the Cathedral Montessori School s new campus on Monday, September 10. Parents, children, and school supporters watched the blessing service and ribbon-cutting ceremony as Father George assisted. "Grant them the spirit of wisdom and the spirit of understanding," prayed His Eminence Alexios. The completed expansion gives Cathedral Montessori School two more permanent classrooms on the second floor to house its new elementary program. The two-story school now serves children age 3-8 years old. The community is invited to visit the school for an Open House on Sunday, October 14, at noon, following church services. All are welcome to see the campus. SAVE THE DATE Cathedral Montessori School 9 Fortress Road OPEN HOUSE October 14 - Noon FRIENDS OF CMS "BUY A BRICK" FUNDRAISER Friends of the Cathedral Montessori School are encouraged to buy a personalized engraved brick to be installed along the entrance of the school. Each 4 x 8 brick is $300 and has space for three lines with eighteen characters per line. The engraved bricks will be installed along the front of the school where they will be very visible to parents, students, and visitors every day. A table with information about this fundraiser is set up in the Coffee Room.

The Metropolis of Atlanta will experience a unique and blessed event on September 29, 2018, when the miraculous Panagia Vimatarissa icon from the Monastery of Vatopaidi on Mount Athos will arrive at the Diakonia Retreat Center in South Carolina. This rare and joyous occasion will begin at 11:00 am with a procession of the Theotokos icon into the new Panagia Chapel led by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, along with the Monks of Vatopaidi, the clergy of the Metropolis of Atlanta, and a parade group created especially for the event! 3 BIBLE STUDY REMINDER Father George will have Bible Study this Wednesday, September 26, at 7:00 pm in the boardroom. SPECIAL WORKSHOP FOR SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL TEACHERS Father Tony Vrame will offer a special workshop for the Sunday Church School teachers today, Sunday, September 23, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the boardroom. The workshop was discussed during the planning sessions over the summer, and it is important that all Sunday Church School staff members participate. Father George encourages 100% attendance. The ECYM Committee is sponsoring two (2) scholarships, $500 for one junior and $500 for one senior. These scholarships are to encourage attendance in Sunday Church School and provide some funds that should be useful in their college endeavors. The criteria will be based on a point system, and the selection will be made by teachers Gregg Hubley, Viki Moustoukas, and Carol Venturatos. The one junior and one senior with the highest points will be awarded scholarships. One point will be awarded for each of the following: Each SCS class attended, starting August 19, 2018 A short essay at the end of the year describing his/her thoughts on "Living an Orthodox Life" Participating in the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival Message from Father George THE WORLD AND OUR CHURCH "Essay in Theology and Liturgy" by Reverend Alkiviadis C. Calivas The Church, as the ancient dictum goes, is in the world but not of the world. The distinct otherness of the Church, however, does not negate the world but mirrors its ultimate restoration and transfiguration, which have already been accomplished through the resurrection and glorification of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The otherness of the Church is not found in artificial forms of detachment from the world, or in exotic otherworldly external appearances, or in exaggerated ritualism. It is known and experienced in the truths she holds and proclaims, in the sacraments she celebrates in faith, and in the meaningful activities she performs in her service to the world. The beauty, goodness, and power of Orthodoxy are not found in servile imitation of forms that are of a secondary and tertiary nature and removed from the realities of modern life. The Church's beauty, goodness, and power are found in the unbroken historical continuity of the Apostolic Faith as it is stated basically in the Bible, explained consistently by the Church Fathers of all centuries, formulated precisely by the dogmas of the Holy Synods, and celebrated joyously through the sacred liturgical rites. The Christian mystery is, first and last, the revelation and the personal experience within the Church of the divine economy, of God's household plan for the salvation of the world. ANNUAL RETREAT IN MADISON, MISSISSIPPI The ladies of St. Peter Orthodox Church, Holy Trinity-St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, and Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church are looking forward to hosting their fourth annual retreat on November 10, 2018, at St. Peter Orthodox Church in Madison, Mississippi. All are invited to attend. GENERAL ASSEMBLY NEXT SUNDAY A General Assembly will be held in the Hellenic Cultural Center next SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2018, immediately following Divine Liturgy. The agenda will include committee reports, as well as election of three (3) members to serve on the Board of Elections for December 2018 Elections. All members in Good Standing are encouraged to attend. STEWARDSHIP 2018 Summer is officially over, and a new ecclesiastical year has started. Sunday Church School and Greek School are back in session, and there is a full schedule of services and events here at Holy Trinity Cathedral. If you have put off making your 2018 pledge, now would be an excellent time to do so. Before you know it, the holiday season will be here, and 2019 will be right around the corner.

THE EPISTLE Galatians 4:22-27 The righteous man shall be glad in the Lord. Hear my voice, O God. Brethren, Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and one by a free woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, the son of the free woman through promise. Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not in travail; for the children of the desolate one are many more than the children of her that is married." THE GOSPEL Luke 5:1-11 At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men." And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
