GREEK SCHOOL Youth Greek School parents will meet with Fay Kalergi today, August 19, in Room 210 after church services; classes will begin August 25. Adult students will meet with her on September 4 at 7:00 pm in the boardroom with classes beginning the following week. SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL STARTS TODAY All Sunday Church School students will remain in the Cathedral by the solea for a blessing after Holy Communion this morning, after which they and their parents will proceed to their respective classrooms for a "Meet and Greet." Parents, please note that six (6) of the left front pews will be reserved each Sunday for Sunday Church School families in hopes that this set up will expedite receiving Holy Communion before class. Refreshments will be served. SAVE THE DATE - FALL FAMILY RETREAT The annual Fall Family Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2018, with guest speaker Reverend Father Anton Vrame, PhD. Father Tony is the director of the Archdiocese Department of Religious Education and has a lifetime of teaching experience. He has been a school teacher, author, and university professor and has led the department for eleven years. Plan to attend this year s Fall Family Retreat. More details on Father Tony s topic and theme will be available soon. 2 PHILOPTOCHOS GARAGE SALE Philoptochos will sponsor a Garage Sale on Saturday, September 8, and Sunday, September 9. All parishioners are asked to check their homes, closets, cabinets, and garages for furniture or other items no longer used or wanted and donate them to the fundraiser. Items can be brought to the Hellenic Cultural Center beginning Monday, August 27. Call Elaine Nugent at and volunteer to assist with the garage sale set up. SILENT AUCTION The Ladies Philoptochos Society will sponsor a Silent Auction in conjunction with the Jazz and Bouzouki Archives Event Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the Jazz Museum. Please support by donating or asking your contacts to donate one or more items for the auction. Deadline is September 12. Donations can include many different types of items such as gift certificates, artwork, jewelry, services, etc. For more information contact Cathy Vial at or cathyvial@gmail.com. SCHOOL SUPPLIES School bells are ringing, and summer vacation is over! Unfortunately, some students will not have the needed supplies, but Philoptochos is sponsoring a drive to collect construction paper, highlighters, index cards (ruled), hand held sharpeners, colored pencils, crayons, wide ruled notebooks and filler paper, 3 ring binders, etc. A bin is placed in the Coffee Room for the donated items. This rare and joyous occasion will begin at 11:00 am with a procession of the Theotokos icon into the new Panagia Chapel led by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, along with the Monks of Vatopaidi, the clergy of the Metropolis of Atlanta, and a parade group created especially for the event! O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Plagal Tone 2 The Theotokos, unsleeping in intercession and the immovable hope of protection, could not be retained by any tomb or death. For being Life's own Mother, she was transferred to life by Him who dwelt in the ever-virgin womb.

THE EPISTLE I Corinthians 15:1-11 BRETHREN, I would remind you in what terms I preached to you the gospel, which you received, in which you stand, by which you are saved, if you hold it fast - unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God which is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. THE GOSPEL Matthew 19:16-26 At that time, a young man came up to Jesus, kneeling and saying, "Good Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" And he said to him, "Why do you call me good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and You shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
