All parishioners and friends are welcome. 150 TH ANNIVERSARY ITEMS The 150th Anniversary Documentary DVD is available for $20 and may be purchased after Divine Liturgy on Sunday or during the week from the Cathedral office. A two DVD set of the October 12, 2014, Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and Celebration Banquet will be available shortly. You may contact Barbara Wolf at regarding either item. DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE The next Daughters Membership meeting will be Sunday, February 22, following the Divine Liturgy. The Chapter will celebrate its 78th Anniversary, founded February 26, Events, activities, and charity programs for 2015 will be discussed. Please plan to attend. PHILOPTOCHOS PHILOPTOCHOS MEETING FEBRUARY 7 All members of Philoptochos are invited to attend the next monthly meeting on Saturday, February 7, at 10:30 am in the Coffee Room. There will be a special program on Law School Summer School in Greece presented by Kathy Lorio. Refreshments will be provided and everyone is urged to attend. Members are also reminded to wear RED next Sunday, February 8, for Heart Health Sunday. FUNDS RAISED FOR SAINT BASIL AND WOUNDED WARRIORS In January Philoptochos held two events, the Cutting of the Vasilopita and The Military Project. Your contributions were sincerely appreciated and made this fundraising effort a success. Philoptochos was able to send $2,000 to the Academy of Saint Basil and $500 to the Wounded Warrior Project. Thank you for your continued support. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON FEBRUARY 19 Senior Citizens are invited to the next Senior Citizens Luncheon on February 19 at 11:30 am in the Coffee Room. Appreciation is extended to Barbara Stavis Wolfe for sponsoring the luncheon in memory of Gladys and William Stavis and Richard Wolf, as well as to an anonymous donor. GREEK FESTIVAL CHAIRPERSONS MEETING The first 2015 Greek Festival Chairpersons meeting will be Thursday, February 5, at 7:00 pm in the Coffee Room. All chairpersons, as well as individuals interested in chairing a booth, are asked to attend. GREEK FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS Greek Festival Pastry Workshops will begin soon! Message from Father George Preparing for a Life with Christ The classic Orthodox book Great Lent - Journey to Pascha begins: When a man leaves on a journey, he must know where he is going. Thus with Lent. Above all, Lent is a spiritual journey, and its destination is Easter. It is the preparation for the fulfillment of Pascha, the True Revelation. In just a few weeks on Clean Monday, February 23, we will begin our annual pilgrimage through the mystical season of Great Lent: a period of forty days that ends on the eve of Lazarus Saturday. It is a time when we are encouraged to focus, nurture, and build on our relationship with Christ. With most physical journeys, there are scenic highways upon which we might travel, including many breathtaking sites along the way that are truly a record of God s handiwork. When we look at the liturgical landscape spread before us in the beautiful imagery of the Lenten Services, we may also be awed by God and His love for us. As we make the services and spiritual exercises of Great Lent a priority for ourselves and our families this year, we might come together on the 12th of April, on Holy Pascha, with a deeper understanding and renewed affection for the life in Christ that each of us is encouraged to lead. Our participation in the services of Holy Week along our journey to Holy Pascha, allows us to be present to commemorate the life, death, and Resurrection of God s only-begotten Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The fulfillment of Pascha and the True Revelation is a special gift that will only occur in our hearts when we recognize that Christ is in us and we allow Him to work through us. I pray that this beautiful season of preparation, prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and personal growth in Christ may fill our hearts and our lives with God s abundant life and love. TRIODION BEGINS TODAY Great Lent is the 40-day season of spiritual preparation that comes before Holy Pascha. It is the central part of a larger time of preparation called the Triodion season, which begins ten weeks before Easter and is divided into three main parts: three Pre-Lenten weeks, the six weeks of Lent, and Holy Week. The main theme of the Triodion is repentance mankind's return to God, our loving Father.

THE EPISTLE Romans 8:28-39 Among the saints who are in his land, the Lord has been wondrous. I see the Lord before me continually. Brethren, we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies; who is to condemn? Is it Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, "For thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. THE GOSPEL Luke 18:10-14 The Lord said this parable, "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
