4 Πράξεις Ἀποστόλων 1:1-8 ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΣ Tην πρώτη εξιστόρηση ήδη την έκανα, Θεόφιλε, για όλα εκείνα που άρχισε να κάνει και να διδάσκει ο Iησούς ως την ημέρα που αναλήφθηκε, αφού πρώτα έδωσε εντολές μέσω του Aγίου Πνεύματος, στους αποστόλους που είχε διαλέξει. Σ αυτούς παρουσιάστηκε ζωντανός μετά το θάνατό του, με πολλές αναμφισβήτητες αποδείξεις, εμφανιζόμενος σ αυτούς για σαράντα μέρες και μιλώντας τους για τη βασιλεία του Θεού. Συναναστρεφόμενος επίσης μαζί τους, τους παράγγειλε να μην απομακρυνθούν από τα Iεροσόλυμα, αλλά να περιμένουν την εκπλήρωση της υπόσχεσης του Πατέρα, την οποία είπε, ακούσατε από μένα, ότι ο Iωάννης βάφτισε με νερό, εσείς όμως θα βαφτιστείτε με το ʼγιο Πνεύμα πριν περάσουν πολλές μέρες. Acts of the Apostles 1:1-8 EPISTLE IN THE FIRST BOOK, O Theophilos, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit." So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom of lsrael?" He said to them, "it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth." Ἰωάννου α 1-17 ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΟ Aρχικά υπήρχε ο Λόγος και ο Λόγος υπήρχε με το Θεό, και Θεός ήταν ο Λόγος. Aρχικά αυτός υπήρχε με το Θεό. Tα πάντα μέσω αυτού δημιουργήθηκαν, και απ όλα τα δημιουργήματα, ούτε ένα δε δημιουργήθηκε χωρίς αυτόν. Aυτός ήταν η πηγή της ζωής και η ζωή αυτή ήταν το φως των ανθρώπων. Kαι το φως φέγγει μέσα στο σκοτάδι, και το σκοτάδι δεν μπόρεσε να καταπνίξει αυτό το φως. Παρουσιάστηκε ένας απεσταλμένος από το Θεό, που ονομαζόταν Iωάννης. Aυτός ήρθε σαν μάρτυρας να δώσει τη μαρτυρία του για το φως, έτσι ώστε όλοι να πιστέψουν χάρη σ αυτόν. Δεν ήταν εκείνος το φως, αλλά ήρθε για να δώσει τη μαρτυρία του για το φως. Yπήρχε το φως το αληθινό, το οποίο φωτίζει κάθε άνθρωπο που έρχεται στον κόσμο. Aυτός ήταν στον κόσμο, και μέσω αυτού δημιουργήθηκε ο κόσμος, αλλά ο κόσμος δεν τον αναγνώρισε. Στα δημιουργήματα τα δικά του ήρθε, αλλά τα ίδια του τα δημιουργήματα δεν τον δέχτηκαν. Σε όσους, όμως, τον δέχτηκαν, σ αυτούς έδωσε το προνόμιο να γίνουν παιδιά του Θεού, σ εκείνους δηλαδή, που πιστεύουν στ όνομά του. Δε γεννήθηκαν αυτοί από σαρκική μείξη, ούτε από ανθρώπινη θέληση, ούτε από ανδρική επιθυμία, αλλά από το Θεό γεννήθηκαν. 4

5 Kαι ο Λόγος ενσαρκώθηκε και κατοίκησε ανάμεσά μας, και με θαυμασμό είδαμε τη δόξα του, μια δόξα, που, σαν μονογενής, την είχε από τον Πατέρα, γεμάτος χάρη και αλήθεια. Mαρτυρία γι αυτόν δίνει ο Iωάννης, που είπε φωναχτά: Γι αυτόν ήταν που είπα: Eκείνος που έρχεται κατόπι μου έχει την προτεραιότητα, γιατί υπήρχε πριν από μέν. Kαι από τον δικό του πλούτο πήραμε όλοι εμείς, χάρη πάνω στη χάρη. Γιατί ο Nόμος δόθηκε μέσω του Mωυσή, μα η χάρη και η αλήθεια μέσω του Iησού Xριστού εξασφαλίστηκαν. John 1:1-17 GOSPEL In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'") And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace. Grant me patience in this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us through Your word to pray for each other that we may be healed. I pray that You heal me as Your servant and grant me the gift of complete health. For You are the source of healing and to You I give glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. 5

6 20 Απριλίου - Άγιον Πάσχα SAINTS AND FEASTS Οι γυναίκες οι οποίες παραβρέθηκαν το απόγευμα της Παρασκευής, στον ενταφιασμό του Κυρίου, δηλαδή η Μαρία η Μαγδαληνή και οι υπόλοιπες, όταν επέστρεψαν από το Γολγοθά στην πόλη, ετοίμασαν αρώματα και μύρα για να αλείψουν το σώμα του Ιησού και την επομένη μέρα απείχαν από κάθε δραστηριότητα λόγω της αργίας του Σαββάτου. Κατά το βαθύ όρθρο, όμως, της Κυριακής, η οποία ονομάζεται από τους Ευαγγελιστές «πρώτη Σαββάτου» και «μια Σαββάτων», δηλαδή πρώτη μέρα της εβδομάδος, μετά από τριάντα έξι σχεδόν ώρες από τη νέκρωση του ζωοδότη Λυτρωτή, έρχονται με νεκρώσιμα αρώματα στον τάφο. Και ενώ σκέπτονταν τη δυσκολία της αποκυλίσεως του λίθου από την είσοδο του τάφου γίνεται σεισμός φοβερός και Άγγελος με αστραπηφόρα όψη και χιονόφωτη στολή, αφού αποκύλισε το λίθο και κάθισε πάνω σ αυτόν, έκανε τους φύλακες να τρομάξουν και τους έτρεψε σε φυγή. Οι γυναίκες, στο μεταξύ, αφού μπήκαν στον τάφο και δε βρήκαν το σώμα του Ιησού, βλέπουν δυο Αγγέλους λευκοφορεμένους, με αντρική μορφή, οι οποίοι αφού τους φανέρωσαν την ανάσταση του Σωτήρα, τις στέλνουν για να αναγγείλουν στους μαθητές την χαρούμενη είδηση. Σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα φθάνουν στον τάφο ο Πέτρος με τον Ιωάννη, αφού έμαθαν τι έγινε από τη Μαρία τη Μαγδαληνή, όπως ήδη ειπώθηκε, αλλά μπαίνοντας μέσα βρίσκουν μόνο τα σάβανα. Γι αυτό ανέρχονται όλοι στη πόλη με χαρά, κήρυκες της ανάστασης του Χριστού, τον οποίον και είδαν πραγματικά ζωντανό πέντε φορές κατά τη σημερινή γιορτή. Αυτή την χαρμόσυνο Ανάσταση γιορτάζοντας σήμερα ασπαζόμαστε μεταξύ μας τον εν Χριστώ ασπασμό, δείχνοντας με τον τρόπο αυτό τη διακοπή της πρώτης έχθρας ανάμεσα σ εμάς και το Θεό και τη διαλλαγή του Θεού προς εμάς για άλλη μια φορά, διαλλαγή που έγινε φανερή με το πάθος του Σωτήρος. Και η εορτή ονομάζεται Πάσχα, έχοντας έτσι το ίδιο όνομα με το Πάσχα των Εβραίων, το οποίο, στη γλώσσα τους σημαίνει διάβαση διότι ο παθών και αναστάς Ιησούς μας διεβίβασε από την κατάρα του Αδάμ και τη δουλεία του διαβόλου στην ελευθερία και μακαριότητα. Και αυτή η μέρα της εβδομάδος, κατά την οποία έγινε η Ανάσταση του Χριστού, η οποία είναι η πρώτη από τις υπόλοιπες μέρες, επειδή, αφιερώθηκε στην τιμή του Κυρίου ονομάστηκε από το όνομα Του Κυριακή, και σ αυτή μετατέθηκε από τους Αποστόλους η αργία και η ανάπαυση της εορτής του Σαββάτου του παλαιού νόμου. April 23 - St. George the Great Martyr and Triumphant George, this truly great and glorious Martyr of Christ, was born of a father from Cappadocia and a mother from Palestine. Being a military tribune, or chiliarch (that is, a commander of a thousand troops), he was illustrious in battle and highly honoured for his courage. When he learned that the Emperor Diocletian was preparing a persecution of the Christians, Saint George presented himself publicly before the Emperor and denounced him. When threats and promises could not move him from his steadfast confession, he was put to unheard-of tortures, which he endured with great bravery, overcoming them by his faith and love towards Christ. By the wondrous signs that took place in his contest, he guided many to the knowledge of the truth, including Queen Alexandra, wife of Diocletian, and was finally beheaded in 296 in Nicomedia. His sacred remains were taken by his servant from Nicomedia to Palestine, to a town called 6

7 Lydda, the homeland of his mother, and then were finally transferred to the church which was raised up in his name. (The translation of the Saint's holy relics to the church in Lydda is commemorated on November 3; Saint Alexandra the Queen, on April 21.) If April 23 falls on or before Great and Holy Pascha, the Feast of St. George is translated to Bright Monday. Apolytikion in the Fourth Tone Liberator of captives, defender of the poor, physician of the sick, and champion of kings, O trophy-bearer, Great Martyr George, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved. Kontakion in the Fourth Tone Cultivated by God, you became manifest as an honorable tiller gathering for yourself the sheaves of virtue. For you sowed with tears but reaped with gladness; in the contest you competed with your blood and came away with Christ. By your intercessions, O Holy One, all are granted forgiveness of sins. 25 Απριλίου - Ζωοδόχος Πηγή Με το όνομα Ζωοδόχος Πηγή του Μπαλουκλί ή Παναγία η Μπαλουκλιώτισσα φέρεται ιερό χριστιανικό αγίασμα που βρίσκεται στη Κωνσταντινούπολη έξω από τη δυτική πύλη της Σηλυβρίας, όπου υπήρχαν τα λεγόμενα "παλάτια των πηγών" στα οποία οι Βυζαντινοί Αυτοκράτορες παραθέριζαν την Άνοιξη. Πήρε την ονομασία του από το τουρκικό όνομα Balık (= ψάρι) και περιλαμβάνει το μοναστήρι, την εκκλησία και το αγίασμα. Για την αποκάλυψη του Αγιάσματος υπάρχουν δυο εκδοχές: α) Η πρώτη, που εξιστορεί ο Νικηφόρος Κάλλιστος αναφέρει ότι: Ο μετέπειτα Αυτοκράτορας Λέων ο Θράξ ή Λέων ο Μέγας ( μ.χ.), όταν ερχόταν ως απλός στρατιώτης στην Κωνσταντινούπολη, συνάντησε στη Χρυσή Πύλη έναν τυφλό που του ζήτησε νερό. Ψάχνοντας γιά νερό, μιά φωνή του υπέδειξε την πηγή. Πίνοντας ο τυφλός και ερχόμενο το λασπώδες νερό στα μάτια του θεραπεύτηκε. Όταν αργότερα έγινε Αυτοκράτορας, του είπε η προφητική φωνή, πως θα έπρεπε να χτίσει δίπλα στην πηγή μια Εκκλησία. Πράγματι ο Λέων έκτισε μια μεγαλοπρεπή εκκλησία προς τιμή της Θεοτόκου στο χώρο εκείνο, τον οποίο και ονόμασε «Πηγή». Ο Κάλλιστος περιγράφει τη μεγάλη αυτή Εκκλησία με πολλές λεπτομέρειες, αν και η περιγραφή ταιριάζει περισσότερο στό οικοδόμημα του Ιουστινιανού. Ιστορικά πάντως είναι εξακριβωμένο, ότι το 536 μ.χ. στη Σύνοδο της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, υπό τον Πατριάρχη Μηνά μ.χ.), λαμβάνει μέρος και ο Ζήνων, ηγούμενος «του Οίκου της αγίας ενδόξου Παρθένου και Θεοτόκου Μαρίας εν τη Πηγή». β) Η δεύτερη, που εξιστορεί ο ιστορικός Προκόπιος, τοποθετείται στις αρχές του 6ου αιώνα και αναφέρεται στον Ιουστινιανό. Ο Ιουστινιανός κυνηγούσε σ' ένα θαυμάσιο τοπίο με πολύ πράσινο, νερά καί δένδρα. Εκεί, σαν σε όραμα, είδε ένα μικρό παρεκκλήσι, πλήθος λαού και έναν ιερέα μπροστά σέ μιά πηγή. «Είναι η πηγή των θαυμάτων» του είπαν. Και έχτισε εκεί μοναστήρι με υλικά που περίσσεψαν από την Αγιά Σοφιά. Ο Ι. Κεδρηνός αναφέρει ότι χτίστηκε το 560 μ.χ. 7

To BLESS A VEHICLE, old or new. To invite us to your home to spend time together and get to know each other better. To come to the church to receive what is basically the only thing we as clergy truly have to offer, the BLESSINGS OF OUR LORD and to engage in spiritual direction. To love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. To love your neighbor as yourself. 13 Translation of the Paschal hymn "Christ is Risen- Christos Anesti" as approved by the Holy Eparchial Synod Το the Reverend Priests and Deacons, the Monks and Nuns, the Presidents and Members of the Parish Councils of the Greek Orthodox Communities, the Distinguished Chanters and Church Choir Directors and Members. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, With great joy we anticipate this year the celebration of the Holy Pascha. Our Holy Eparchial Synod at the request of our Church musicians and faithful has approved the attached translation of the Paschal hymn Χριστός Ανέστη (Christ is Risen) in English, accompanied by the Byzantine and European musical notations. It is the prayer and wish of the Holy Synod, that beginning this year the confusion that existed among the parishes in the chanting variations of this central hymn of our Church, will give place to the proclamation of the good news of the Resurrection of our Lord with the same words and music, as we chant it with one voice and one heart. There is no reason that you have to inconvenience the mom and the baby, waiting in the back of the Narthex until the priest is available on a Sunday ONLY. Make an appointment to come to church when it is convenient for you at a time that will not disrupt the baby's routine. ANY day you would like. 9am through 6pm by appointment. Bring the entire family or come just with your husband and the baby. Whatever you want. No waiting no inconvenience. More private time with the priest to talk about the future baptism if you wish.
