Mode Plagal 1. Psalm 11.7,1 You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us. Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

3 GOSPEL READING The Gospel According to Luke 8:41-56 At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.

Andrew s recuperation there will be no weekday services at St. Nicholas Church in November. On November 8 at 7:00 PM there will be Great Vespers and Artoklasia at St. Nectarios Church in Covina. A dinner in the church hall will follow. On November 9 at 9:00 AM there will be Orthros followed by the Divine Liturgy at St. Nectarios Church. A luncheon in the church hall will follow. His Eminence, Metroplitan Gerasimos and His Eminence Metroplitan Kleopas of Sweden will preside over the Services. Bible Study Bible Study will be held Wednesday, October 31st beginning at 6:30. 9 What God Has Done In My Life Three Crosses by : Rosemary Georgiou Oct It was July We had just come back from Greece. We had been away for a month, visiting my husband s parents, relatives and friends. It had been an exhausting trip, but we were back. Being back meant a continuation of our weekly marriage counseling sessions. I was first to the session one early morning, but it was what happened after I left the appointment that is the center of this story. As I left the doctor s office all I could feel was a deep sadness and a sense that my life was about to take a drastic change! I was afraid and feeling like a lost soul! I was heading to my parent s house, as I hadn t seen them in about two months. They lived in Hemet, I was in Brea, in Orange County. Almost immediately as I entered the freeway on the right side, in the parking lot of the mall, I noticed something! As I think back on it now, it was something quite unbelievable! It was a huge, white cross! It just stood out white, large and plain! It was a large cross that you d see at the front of a church! But what was more unbelievable, was my reaction! Because I was so engrossed in myself with my marriage problems, all I could say or think, when I saw the cross was Oh that s strange! All I could think about was, what s going to happen to me? I cried and was in extremely dire sadness thinking that my marriage would be ending. As I proceeded onto the 15-South freeway, again on the right side, my attention was drawn to an amazing object! It was a huge, white cross! It stuck out like a huge sore thumb! I saw it and again my reaction was very nonchalant, and my words were that s strange. I m consumed with my thoughts of worry, anxiety and fear of what will happen to me! I continued driving no radio, no music, nothing, in complete silence. The only noise was in my head an overwhelming state of mind! Thoughts running rampant of what is to become of my future, I will have no future! I gave the cross that I had just seen, not a second thought. The next freeway which I embarked on was the 74, vast open land with hills, rocks and not much else. As I ve been driving in complete silence, with my frantic thoughts and praying an amazing and soul gripping experience happens! My eyes were drawn upward into the clear, blue sky and I see the most unbelievable of all things! There, in the sky was the largest cross! Skywriting! Someone I say the Hand of God, had drawn a Cross! I felt an immediate and immense exhilaration! It was as if God was shaking me gently, but firmly saying to me Rosemary, I ve been with you, I am with you, and I will always be with you! I cried but it was a cry of joy, a cry of realization! Knowing that I m not alone and would never be alone, I felt elated! I felt light- like a huge, heavy burden had been lifted from me. There s much that s happened in my life since then, but no matter what happens, I always remember the three Crosses and what God was saying to me. I draw strength and courage from that experience. The sermon that George Fields gave in church, is absolutely true. When we put our faith and trust in our Heavenly Father, it s amazing what He does in our lives! I came to Temecula, not on my own accord, but because of what God had for me. As part of His plan for my life He said to me one day loud and clear, Rosemary move to Temecula, you like it there and who knows..maybe one day you ll have your own little business there. He planted a thought in my heart, which gave me hope and a future. But we are stubborn

10 creatures. We don t like change. It took me one year to obey God, but His tugging and nudging wouldn t let go of me until I did as He said. I was in Brea sitting alone, wasting away after my divorce, but God had plans for my life. It was just a matter of me using my faith to trust in Him! As soon as I came to Temecula, I found my life! God knows what He s doing we just have to trust Him! In 2017, I entered a new phase of my life. I really prayed about it, I pray about everything in my life. I want to live in God s will. So, when it came to what kind of work I should go into, I sensed Him directing me into real estate. At first, I said, NO! I didn t want to go there! Sales are very difficult the beast of sales is real estate! I prayed for specific signs--if it was His will. Everything was pointing to that direction! I know if I wouldn t have passed my exam the first time, I wouldn t have tried again! It was extremely difficult, and it s been very challenging! He s given me a most trying path and I remember when I finally did agree to go into this field, I said Ok Lord I m taking a leap of faith and jumping into your arms! Please catch me. He has, and He always does if we put our trust in Him. I don t know why God takes us into a direction or area where we don t want to go, but I do know to trust Him, even though many times it s not easy. Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope. Hebrews 2:13 I will put my trust in Him. Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

16 Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Our commemoration of OXI Day each year leads us to reflect on a very challenging time in our world and for the people of Greece. As war was spreading throughout Europe, the Axis forces demanded the surrender of Greece on October 28, Bravely and honorably, the Greek people replied, NO. Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of our fathers and mothers who stood valiantly against the armies of the fascist powers. They proclaimed a resolute NO to occupation. The people of Greece affirmed their love of liberty and their right of selfdetermination. They saw the evil and unchecked power of fascist regimes, and in their response they committed their lives to protecting their country. In faith they knew that no matter the outcome they were willing to stand courageously in the face of this threat knowing that ultimately nothing could separate them from the nobility of their heritage and the love of God. Today, we are inspired by our forbearers as we celebrate their courage and honor their memory. They said NO to those who advanced power and control at any cost. They stood firm against an ideology and its forces that would only separate them from their freedom, their rights, and their way of life. We find courage in their example and hope and strength in the promise that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38-39). The experience of God s love and the promise that His love is always with us helped the people of Greece in hope and faith toendure all things (I Corinthians 13:7). They knew that the power of God s love was greater than the power of fascist regimes. They knew that the love of God was essential to their freedom, and to their love for their families and communities, and for their country. With the assurance and truth of God s love, we are able to stand firm against any evil use of power or false ideology. As the people of Greece in 1940 and as many witnesses of our faith have done, we can boldly proclaim NO in the face of those who seek to destroy life and liberty, those who use power to abuse and manipulate others, and those who try to separate us from our faith and the love of God. As we commemorate the valiant people of Greece on OXI Day, and we laud their courage before the world, may we give thanks to God for the witness offered to us and to generations to come. May we also pray for the eternal memory and blessed repose of those who stood heroically for their faith and their nation. May we be inspired to

18 New Archdiocesan Assignment for His Grace Bishop Apostolos D A T E : October 23, 2018 C A T E G O R Y : M E T R O P O L I T A N ' S M E S S A G E S A U T H O R : H I S E M I N E N C E M E T R O P O L I T A N G E R A S I M OS His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos Saint James the Apostle Beloved in the Lord, At the request of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, and with the concurrence of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese, I wish to inform you that His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeia will soon begin a new chapter in his ministry as Chief Secretary of the Synod for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. This position was previously held by His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela who will be relocating to serve as Auxiliary Bishop under His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta. His Grace Bishop Apostolos began his tenure with the Metropolis of San Francisco in November 2011 and has served most capably as Chancellor of our Metropolis for the past seven years. He established a strong rapport with the clergy and faithful, and was of great assistance to me both administratively and in maintaining an active schedule of pastoral visits, along with providing support for our priests and parishes.
