3 Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:33-40; 12:1-2. Brethren, all the saints through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated - of whom the world was not worthy - wandering over deserts and mountains and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. ὑποσχέσεων τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἔφραξαν στόματα λεόντων, ἔσβησαν τὴν δύναμιν φωτιᾶς, διέφυγαν τὴν σφαγήν, ἔγιναν ἀπὸ ἀδύνατοι δυνατοί, ἔγιναν ἰσχυροὶ σὲ καιρὸν πολέμου, ἔτρεψαν εἰς φυγὴν παρατάξεις τῶν ἐχθρῶν. Γυναῖκες ἔλαβαν τοὺς νεκρούς των δι ἀναστάσεως, ἄλλοι δὲ ἐβασανίσθησαν καὶ δὲν ἐδέχθησαν νὰ ἀφεθοῦν ἐλεύθεροι, διὰ νὰ ἐπιτύχουν μίαν ἄλλην καλυτέραν ἀνάστασιν. Ἄλλοι ἐδοκιμάσθησαν μὲ ἐμπαιγμοὺς καὶ μαστίγωσιν, ἀκόμη δὲ καὶ μὲ δεσμὰ καὶ φυλακήν. Ἐλιθοβολήθησαν, ἐπριονίσθησαν, ὑπέστησαν πολλὰς δοκιμασίας, ἐθανατώθησαν μὲ μάχαιραν, περιπλανῶντο φοροῦντες δέρματα προβάτων καὶ δέρματα αἰγῶν, ἐστεροῦντο, ὑπέφεραν θλίψεις καὶ κακουχίας, (ἄνθρωποι διὰ τοὺς ὁποίους δὲν ἦτο ἄξιος ὁ κόσμος), ἐπλανῶντο σὲ ἐρήμους καὶ σὲ βουνά, σὲ σπήλαια καὶ σὲ τρύπες τῆς γῆς. Ὅλοι αὐτοί, ἂν καὶ εἶχαν καλὴν μαρτυρίαν διὰ τὴν πίστιν τους, δὲν ἔλαβαν ὅ,τι εἶχε ὑποσχεθῆ ὁ Θεός, διότι εἶχε ὁ Θεὸς προβλέψει κάτι καλύτερον ἀναφορικῶς μ ἐμᾶς διὰ νὰ μὴ φθάσουν ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὴν τελειότητα χωρὶς ἐμᾶς. Ἑπομένως, ἀφοῦ ἔχομεν γύρω μας ἕνα τόσο μεγάλο σύννεφο ἀπὸ μάρτυρας, ἂς ἀποτινάξωμεν κάθε βάρος καὶ τὴν ἁμαρτίαν, ἡ ὁποία εὔκολα μᾶς ἐμπλέκει, καὶ ἂς τρέχωμεν μὲ ὑπομονὴν τὸ ἀγώνισμα τοῦ δρόμου ποὺ εἶναι ἐμπρός μας, μὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς μας προσηλωμένους πρὸς τὸν ἀρχηγὸν καὶ τελειωτὴν τῆς πίστεώς μας, τὸν Ἰησοῦν, ὁ ὁποῖος, χάριν τῆς χαρᾶς ποὺ τὸν ἀνέμενε, ὑπέμεινε σταυρόν, περιφρονήσας τὴν αἰσχύνην, καὶ ἐκάθησε εἰς τὰ δεξιὰ τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ Θεοῦ. 3

4 GOSPEL - MATTHEW 10:32-33, 37-38, 19:27-30 ΚΑΤᾺ ΜΑΤΘΑῦΟΝ 10:32-33, 37-38, 19:27-30 The Lord said to his disciples, "Every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny him before my Father who is in heaven. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Then Peter said in reply, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first." Καθέναν ποὺ θὰ μὲ ὁμολογήσῃ ἐμπρὸς στοὺς ἀνθρώπους, θὰ τὸν ὁμολογήσω καὶ ἐγὼ ἐμπρὸς στὸν Πατέρα μου τὸν οὐράνιον. Ἐκεῖνον ὅμως ποὺ θὰ μὲ ἀρνηθῇ ἐμπρὸς στοὺς ἀνθρώπους, θὰ τὸν ἀρνηθῶ καὶ ἐγὼ ἐμπρὸς στὸν Πατέρα μου τὸν οὐράνιον. «Ἐκεῖνος, ποὺ ἀγαπᾶ πατέρα ἢ μητέρα περισσότερον ἀπὸ ἐμέ, δὲν μοῦ εἶναι ἄξιος. Καὶ ἐκεῖνος, ποὺ ἀγαπᾶ υἱὸν ἢ θυγατέρα περισσότερον ἀπὸ ἐμέ, δὲν μοῦ εἶναι ἄξιος. Καὶ ἐκεῖνος, ποὺ δὲν παίρνει τὸν σταυρόν του καὶ δὲν μὲ ἀκολουθεῖ δὲν μοῦ εἶναι ἄξιος. Τότε ἔλαβε τὸν λόγον ὁ Πέτρος καὶ τοῦ εἶπε, «Νά ἐμεῖς ποὺ ἀφήκαμε ὅλα καὶ σὲ ἀκολουθήσαμε τί λοιπὸν θὰ ἀπολαύσωμεν;». Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς εἶπε, «Ἀλήθεια σᾶς λέγω, ὅτι σεῖς, οἱ ὁποῖοι μὲ ἀκολουθήσατε, ὅταν ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου θὰ καθήσῃ εἰς τὸν θρόνον τῆς δόξης του εἰς τὴν Νέαν Δημιουργίαν, θὰ καθήσετε καὶ σεῖς σὲ δώδεκα θρόνους, διὰ νὰ κρίνετε τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ. Καὶ καθένας ποὺ ἀφῆκε σπίτια ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ ἀδελφὲς ἢ πατέρα ἢ μητέρα ἢ γυναῖκα ἢ παιδιὰ ἢ χωράφια διὰ τὸ ὄνομά μου, θὰ πάρῃ ἑκατὸ φορὲς περισσότερα καὶ θὰ κληρονομήσῃ ζωὴν αἰώνιον. Πολλοὶ δέ, οἱ ὁποῖοι εἶναι πρῶτοι, θὰ γίνουν τελευταῖοι, καὶ ἐκεῖνοι ποὺ εἶναι τελευταῖοι, θὰ γίνουν πρῶτοι». 4

5 GOSPEL - MATEU 10:32-33, 37-38, 19:27-30 «Kështu, kushdo që më rrëfen para njerëzve, edhe unë do ta rrëfej para Atit tim që është në qiej, por kushdo që më mohon para njerëzve, edhe unë do ta mohoj para Atit tim që është në qiej». Kush e do babanë apo nënën e vet më shumë se mua, nuk është i denjë për mua dhe ai që e do të birin ose të bijën më shumë se mua, nuk është i denjë për mua. Kush nuk e merr kryqin e vet për të më ndjekur, nuk është i denjë për mua. Atëherë Pjetri i tha: «Ja, ne lamë gjithçka dhe erdhëm pas teje. Po me ne ç'do të bëhet?». Jezui u tha: «Me të vërtetë po ju them se në krijimin e ri, kur Biri i njeriut të ulet në fronin e tij të lavdishëm, ju që keni ardhur pas meje do të uleni në dymbëdhjetë frone për të gjykuar dymbëdhjetë fiset e Izraelit. 8 Tuesday, July 23, 2019 Depart church at 9:15am Orange & Milford, CT Join us for a Leventia Trip to Saint Barbara s in Orange and the Greek Spot in Milford. At 10am, we will celebrate Paraklesis at Saint Barbara s. Immediately following, we will depart for lunch at the Greek Spot in Milford. We plan to eat outside. There will also be time to walk on the boardwalk on the beach. Cost: $5 for gas for the van and participants will pay for their own lunch. Please sign up outside Fr. Perry s office. 8

Once we reach our limit, we will have a waiting list. * Below please find a rough itinerary (subject to change). 9 days/8 nights Day 1...USA/ TEL AVIV This afternoon, we will depart for an unforgettable and fulfilling spiritual odyssey! Day 2...TEL AVIV / TIBERIAS Welcome to the Holy Land! After clearing Immigration, a Cloud Tours representative will meet us and assist us with our baggage and Customs. Transfer to Tiberias, a drive of approximately two hours. En route to Tiberias, visit the Church and Tomb of St. George in Lydda, the birthplace of St. George. Venerate the tomb and chain of St George. Day 3...TIBERIAS / RIVER JORDAN / CAPERNAUM/TABGHA/ TIBERIAS Depart at this morning for our first day in the Holy Land! Enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Continue to Capernaum, the headquarters of Jesus' ministry in Galilee, and walk in the same village Jesus did. Continue to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, the very place Jesus called His first disciples. Drive on to the Mountain of Beatitudes, where Jesus Christ preached the Sermon on the Mount and where the Lord s Prayer was said for the first time. Then, on to Tabgha (Seven Springs) and the Church of the Multiplication of Fishes and Loaves. It is here that the miracle of the loaves and fish took place. Our last stop will be Yardenit on the River Jordan, the site for Spiritual Baptism and Agiasmos. Experience an affirmation of your baptism in the same river that our Lord was baptized by Saint John the Baptist 2,000 years ago. Day 4: TIBERIAS / MT. TABOR / CANA / NAZARETH / JERUSALEM Begin with a visit the Church of the Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor. Our next stop is Cana and the Greek Orthodox Church where our Lord performed his first public miracle. Continue to nearby Nazareth, one of the holiest 9

10 towns in Christendom. This city was the home of Mary, Joseph and Jesus until the beginning of His ministry. Then, conditions and time-permitting, drive through the Dotan Valley where Joseph's brothers threw him into a cistern. We will make a short stop at Samaria, Ahab's capital. Stop at nearby Jacob's Well, site of Jesus' conversation with a Samaritan woman. We then drive through the biblical heartland down to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight at the hotel. Day 5: JERUSALEM / BETHLEHEM / JERUSALEM After breakfast, drive to Bethlehem, the birthplace of our Lord and Savior and the cradle of biblical history. On the way back to Jerusalem, visit the Monastery and Church of the Prophet Elias and the Church and Tomb of St. Symeon, the Just. In addition, visit the Monastery of the Holy Cross. After, drive to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist. Return to Jerusalem. Day 6: JERUSALEM Enjoy breakfast and drive o the Jaffa Gate of Jerusalem. We leave the coach to walk through old Jerusalem to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate. Then, we will walk along the Way of the Cross (all 14 stations are not visited) Via Dolorosa - which starts from the Fortress of Antonia and ends at the Temple Mount. After the Holy Sepulcher, enjoy some free time in the in the Christian quarters for lunch or shopping Day 7: JERUSALEM After breakfast, drive to the Mount of Olives to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Holy City. Drive to the Church of Our Father and the Chapel of Ascension, the site our Lord ascended from the earth to Heaven. Continue to Gethsemane & the Tomb of the Virgin Mary and a drive to the Zion gate. Day 8: JERUSALEM / JERICHO / JERUSALEM This morning, drive northeast of Jerusalem to Jericho to climb the Mount of Sarantarion (The Mount of Temptation). En route to the Dead Sea, stop in Qumran, the area where a Jewish sect thought to be the Essenes wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls. Continue to the Church of St. Elisseos and Zacchaeus Tree & Emmaus. Day 9: Transfer to Tel Aviv airport for trip home. 10
