2 TOWARDS MASTERING USE OF ENGLISH FOR PRE-FCE UNIT 1 Adverbs of frequency = Επιρρήματα συχνότητας seldom = rarely = σπάνια forever = constantly = συνεχώς Με Present Continuous always = πάντα εκφράζουν ενοχλητική συνήθεια. usually = συνήθως often = συχνά sometimes = μερικές φορές never = ποτέ ( σε κατάφαση με αρνητική σημασία ) How often? = Πόσο συχνά; once a week = μια φορά την εβδομάδα twice a month = δύο φορές το μήνα three times = τρεις φορές Τα επιρρήματα συχνότητας μπαίνουν πριν το κύριο ρήμα και μετά το ρήμα be. Δίνει απαραίτητες πληροφορίες. 2. Δεν μπορεί να παραλειφθεί. 3. Δεν μπαίνει ανάμεσα σε κόμματα. 4. 6 Non-defining relative clause = Mη προσδιοριστική αναφορική πρόταση 1. Δίνει επιπλέον πληροφορίες. 2. Μπορεί να παραλειφθεί. 3. Μπαίνει ανάμεσα σε κόμματα. 4. Δε χρησιμοποιείται το that. 5. Οι αναφορικές αντωνυμίες δεν μπορούν να παραλειφθούν ποτέ. Το that μπορεί ν αντικαταστήσει τα who, which και when μόνο σε defining relative clauses. superlative, It s the first / second time etc. + that (often with present perfect) eg. It s the best book that I have ever read. all, none, little, few, anything, nothing + that Relative pronouns with prepositions This is the man to whom I spoke. This is the man whom / who / that I spoke to. Athens is the city in which I was born. Athens is the city which / that I was born in. Athens is the city where I was born. Δε βάζουμε πρόθεση μπροστά από το that και το who. who / which + be + present /past participle who / which and be can be omitted. eg. Look at the children who are playing. Look at the children playing. The composition which was written by John was very good. The composition written by John was very good. We can use not either instead of neither. eg. He doesn t enjoy horror films and neither do I. He doesn t enjoy horror films and I don t either. 1. Too can be used to replace so. eg. Notes After hardly and scarcely the second clause is introduced by when. eg. Hardly had he left the room when the phone rang. After no sooner the second clause is introduced by than. eg. No sooner had I got home than my brother arrived. With only after, only by, only if, only when, not until,we have inversion in the main clause. eg. Not until I was much older, was I allowed to drive a car.
