When O Christ our God Thou wast Transfigured on the mountain Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee. Kontakion "Thou Who didst sanctify the Virgin's womb by Thy birth and didst bless Symeon's hands as was meet by anticipation, has even now saved us oh Christ our God. 3 Epistle - St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 7 : ; 8 : 1-2 Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever. Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord. Ὁ νόμος γὰρ ἀνθρώπους καθίστησιν ἀρχιερεῖς, ἔχοντας ἀσθένειαν ὁ λόγος δὲ τῆς ὁρκωμοσίας τῆς μετὰ τὸν νόμον, υἱὸν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τετελειωμένον. Κεφάλαιον δὲ ἐπὶ τοῖς λεγομένοις τοιοῦτον ἔχομεν ἀρχιερέα, ὃς ἐκάθισεν ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ θρόνου τῆς μεγαλωσύνης ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς, τῶν ἁγίων λειτουργός, καὶ τῆς σκηνῆς τῆς ἀληθινῆς, ἣν ἔπηξεν ὁ κύριος, καὶ οὐκ ἄνθρωπος Gospel Luke 19 : 1-10 At that time, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaios; he was a chief collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaios, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchaios stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost." Receiving Holy Communion The sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved for only baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared by fasting, prayer and confession. The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. If you are not Orthodox, you are invited with everyone to receive the Antidoron (blessed bread) at the end of service. If you would like information about the Orthodox Church, please see Fr. Philoptochos Meeting Philoptochos Membership Ladies, if you did not pay your dues for 2015 during the fall membership drive, please stop at the Philoptochos table during coffee hour now. We need to send our per capita amounts to National and Denver at the end of January. Please support this worthy ministry that strives to help the poor and downtrodden. Even if you cannot actively participate, ALL WOMEN ARE WELCOME! Compassionate Friends Ministry The Compassionate Friends Ministry first and foremost offers a connection of loving companionship to people who are bound to their homes, either out of illness or age, so that they remain connected to the grace and love of Jesus Christ through our Church. This outreach is especially crucial and meaningful to these individuals during the busy holiday season. Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of this ministry by signing up to share the precious gift of your time through home visits. The ministry also extends itself to those who may have recently undergone surgery, are in the hospital, are isolated, are in grief, or have given birth to a child. Although part of the greater Philoptochos membership, all are invited to participate. WHO? 6th-12th graders WHERE? We will meet at 5pm on Friday and stay Friday and Saturday nights at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church: 414 Saint Stephens School Road South, Austin, TX The service learning weekend will come to a close following Liturgy on Sunday, February 22nd. COST? A registration gift of $150 a person will cover all trip expenses, make it possible for the YES Program to prepare and execute the trip, and enable our service team to meet the needs of those we serve. From the consensus gathered from our members it seems like the best day is Thursday. We will still be alternating between structured discussion and the open format settings. As of now, our meeting location has yet to be determined but we will begin our meetings next week with a welcome back dinner/breakfast at Kerbey Lane on Guadalupe at 7pm.
