What is AHEPA? AHEPA Is The Largest Greek Heritage Association In The World There are chapters around the world: across Canada, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Cyprus. 2013 marks Ahepa s 85 th Anniversary in Canada (from 1928). The Regina chapter was established in 1931. AHEPA stands for the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. The Mission of AHEPA is to promote: Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, Family and Individual Excellence. At AHEPA Regina we ve helped to raise over 1.7 million dollars for local charities. The main charitable donations have been given to Palliative Care & the Hospitals of Regina. We ve also helped families in need and numerous other charities. The AHEPA Family is composed of 4 groups: AHEPA - Men; Daughters of Penelope - Women; Youth Sons of Pericles Young Men and Maids of Athena Young Women. In 2006 AHEPA Regina commissioned and produced a bust sculpture of Hippocrates along with the Hippocratic Oath that was placed at Regina s General Hospital. You can see it just inside the main entrance. We are currently working with the University of Regina to place a sculpture on campus representing education. We have annual scholarships, supported dance groups, soccer teams and held numerous picnic and social events. This past April 2013 AHEPA Canada presented the Parliamentary Banquet in Ottawa honouring the Prime Minister with the prestigious Socrates award. Our senior members were instrumental in the founding of St. Paul s Greek Orthodox Community of Regina. Our original mission was to help newcomers settle into their new homeland and bring them together socially. With the economic crisis in Greece, we are again helping to support new immigrants to Canada and send aid to Greece. 2014 will be AHEPA s 83rd year in Regina and 86 th for the national chapter. Our members look forward to continuing to be part of the Regina community and the nation of Canada and contributing to it; as well as to be an integral part of St. Paul s Greek Orthodox Community of Regina.
