THE EPISTLE The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians 4:4-9 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Verse: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever. BRETHREN, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you.
THE GOSPEL The Reading is from the Gospel of John 12:1-18 Six days before Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazaros was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; Martha served, and Lazaros was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said, "Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me." When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazaros, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazaros also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!" His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazaros out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.

Economos Peter J. Thornberg, Proistamenos April 21, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: It is wonderful to have the faithful with us today, and we wish you a blessed Holy Week! As you may have noticed, our rear parking lot is currently under construction. After over 25 years the asphalt surface has failed to a point where it can no longer be repaired and must be replaced. Unfortunately, the cost to replace the parking lot is approximately $100,000. While this is a tremendous amount of money, it is by far the lowest bid and was the result of extensive negotiation with the contractor to lock in the best possible price for our parish. Fortunately, the paving contractor has offered to collect payment in three installments. A few parishioners have come forward to help cover the cost of the parking lot, but we are nowhere near where we need to be to pay the final bill. We were blessed this past winter with many parishioners who helped us fill the shortfall due to two rained out festivals in 2018. As you may know, we rely on Festival revenue and your Stewardship financial contribution to pay our major operating expenses (the mortgage, insurance, payroll for our Priest and office manager, electric, water, gas, lawn service, exterminators, equipment repair services, etc.). The bottom line is that we need your help again this year. We still need to raise over $70,000 to cover the cost of the parking lot re-paving. This is OUR parish and it is dependent solely on OUR financial contributions. Unlike other denominations, we do not receive financial support from an Archdiocese nor our own Metropolis. We are asking each Parishioner to help out in any way they can. Today, there will be a second collection tray passed specifically earmarked for the parking lot. Please give all that you can. We have also included a donation slip below that you can mail in at your convenience, if you prefer. over
We understand that some families have financial constraints; but most of us have been blessed tenfold with good health, good fortune and prosperity. For those blessed families, we are asking that you consider a minimal contribution of $300 to help cover the parking lot project. If you have any questions regarding this project, please feel free to contact any of our Parish Council members. As always, we are thankful for the generosity of our Parish Family. Once again, wishing you all a Blessed Holy Week and a joy-filled Pascha! Yours in Christ, Reverend Economos Peter J. Thornberg Proistamenos John Pogas Parish Council President Please detach and return the bottom portion with your donation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name Street City, State, Zip Amount Enclosed $
