FROM THE OFFICE OF FATHER MICHAEL Beloved in Christ, The Miraculous Panagia Icon of Jerusalem As we approach the Feast of the Kimisis of the Holy Theotokos I would like to share a story with you about the miraculous Icon of the Panagia of Jerusalem. I have seen this Icon several times in the past and truly it is a Blessed and Holy Icon. The Elder Paisios of Mount Athos, who had seen the Theotokos in a vision, recalled that, "Panagia looks like the Icon of the Panagia of Jerusalem, she is exactly the same. I have seen her many times and I don't know of any other icon resembling her so much. This should not be surprising, since the Panagia of Jerusalem icon has the reputation of being an icon made not of human hand. Tradition tells us about a nun named Tatiani, an iconographer, lived at the Russian Monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene at the foot of the Mount of Olives. Tatiani once saw a vision, in her sleep, of a nun whom she didn t know standing in her cell. The nun said to her, Sister Tatiani I came for you to draw me. Tatiani responded, Bless sister I am an iconographer not an artist, the visitor then said, In that case, paint an icon of me. Tatiani, taken back by the boldness of the unknown nun replied, I don t have a board to paint on. Her visitor then gave her a board prepared for iconography and said to her, Paint! As Tatiani painted the nun, she noticed that the nun s vestments become gold in color and her face began to shine brightly, she heard her say; O Blessed Tatiani, after the Apostle and Evangelist Luke you will paint an icon of me again. Tatiani was startled because she was painting an icon of the Panagia, she became fearful and awoke. She immediately hurried to her Abbess and related the vision to her. The Abbess doubted Tatiani and directed her to go back to sleep, and in the morning to paint an icon of the Panagia. As she returned, she could see a light and could smell a beautiful fragrance coming from her cell. She immediately notified the Abbess and together they entered the bright and fragrant cell. There they saw the most astonishing miracle, the Icon from the vision was before them; the Holy Icon of the Panagia that was painted miraculously without the use of any human hands. After these events the Panagia came again to Tatiani and said to her, Take me down to my house in Gethsemane, which she did. From that time the Holy Icon made-without-hands of the Panagia of Jerusalem is found at the Tomb of the Theotokos in Gethsemane, where it continues to work miracles. In His Love, + Father Michael

PRESIDENT S CORNER Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Father Michael, and the Parish Council, I hope that you and your families are having a safe and fun filled summer. More often than not, during these summer months life becomes a series of obligations, outings and vacations. Let us be mindful that the Church needs to continue to be a cornerstone in our daily lives. We should try and make every effort to attend church during the summer months and give thanks to our Heavenly Father for all the good things He provides us with, for He remains watching over us. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you that Presbytera Evelyn Kiramarios, fell asleep in the Lord at her home on June 12, 2019, ( which was the day of her 53rd wedding anniversary). Her beloved husband Fr. John Kiramarios, her children Antonios, Diana and Michael as well as all her grandchildren and family were present. This is a sad moment in the life of our Church. Presbytera Evelyn over the past 38 years has been such a positive and loving presence in our lives. Though our Church and community has lost its beloved Matriarch, Presbytera Evelyn will continue to live in our hearts and in our minds. During this difficult time I m certain that Presbytera Evelyn, would want us to continue our church s legacy that she worked so hard to build and perpetuate. May Her Memory Be Eternal. "A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love." - Saint Basil Respectfully yours, Nicholas H. Babanikas Parish Council President PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS July No Meeting August 13th September 10th October 8th November 12th December 10th As you may know our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year is our four (4) day festival. This year it will be held on Thursday September 19, 2019 through Sunday September 22, 2019. It is my hope that all the Stewards of our church will commit to helping us make this year s Food Festival an all time best. Needless to say, we cannot be successful without you. As such, we will have sign-up sheets at the coffee hour and in the office for you. There are so many ways to help. I encourage and welcome all of you, young and old alike to come forward and join our family of volunteers in Christian fellowship. Please consider signing up and committing some of your time and talent to our upcoming September 2019 festival.

FOOD FESTIVAL With less than 90 days until our Food Festival, preparations are well under way. Our Parish faces a huge challenge as we are coming off our most successful festival EVER. Both our Sales and our Profits reached an all-time high, due in large part, to the unselfish commitment of TIME, TALENT and TREASURE from our Parishioners. To improve upon last year s results, we will need even a greater commitment from all of our Parishioners. There is a Volunteer roll for everyone to fill. In fact, not only are we requesting that all Parishioners get involved in this year s Food Festival, we are asking every Parishioner to bring along a friend or relative to support our volunteer efforts. Sadly over the past 5 years we have lost many Parishioners that have volunteered their time and talent during our Festivals and clearly we are all aging, which takes a physical toll on us, so we really need to appeal to everyone to lend a hand. Last year we had Rocky Savas and his son Steve setting up more than 120 tables and 800 chairs on Wednesday almost all by themselves. Tables that weighed nearly 70 pounds each. Rocky was a month short of 89 years old at that time and even though he is in great shape, he shouldn t have to do that job yet there was no one else available to do it, so he made it his responsibility. Let s all step forward this year to give the Rocky s of our Parish a little bit of a break. It is always difficult to ask people to give of themselves for the benefit of others, yet this is for the benefit of our Church, our Community and our Family. For those that still work or have other commitments during the dates of our Festival, please consider using a few days of your vacation benefit, sick time or personal time so that you can be there volunteering on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well as the weekend. With nearly 90 days before the beginning of the Festival, you should have ample time to make the necessary arrangements at work to provide the support that we need. Even with the outstanding and record-setting results that we achieved last year, we can do so much better this year. We prepared a list of more than 40 things that we can do to improve the results of this year s Festival. We can achieve every one of them but we need more volunteers committing to more hours, so please do what you can to help us out and please bring along a friend to help us as well. Enclosed in this month s bulletin is a Volunteer Sign-Up form. Please complete it as soon as you can and return it to the office so that our committee can begin the planning process. Working together we can achieve incredible results for our Parish. Jim Mihos On behalf of The Food Festival Committee
