Handset Based vs. Handset Assisted Οι μέθοδοι Handset Based/Network Assisted στηρίζονται σε μετρήσεις που πραγματοποιούνται στην κινητή συσκευή.
Cell ID CGI only Cell Global ID (CGI)
Timing Advance Η Timing Advance (TA) είναι συγκεκριμένη παράμετρος του GSM Πρόκειται για το BS <-> < > MS Round Trip Delay Χρησιμοποιείται για να εξασφαλίσει ότι τα σήματα από το MS λαμβάνονται από το BS τη σωστή χρονική στιγμή The measurement is based on the delay between the beginning of a time slot and the arrival of bursts from the MS The resolution of TA is 1GSM bit, i.e., 3.69µs. Since it is a round trip measure, the resolution for one hop is 1/2 bit = 1.85µs s or 550 metres
Cell ID + Timing Advance CGI only CGI only on sectorised cell CGI + TA CGI + TA on sectorised cell 550m
Cell ID + Timing Advance Technology Rural Suburban Urban Indoor Cell ID Range 1-35km Typically ~15km Extreme 100km Range 1-10km Typically 5km Macro cells: Range 500m-5km Typically 2km Micro cells Range 50m-500m Typically 200m If Pico Cells are deployed then Typically 10m-50m Cell ID + TA No major improvements in accuracy. However, is a good check against connecting to cell which is not the nearest.
Cell ID + Timing Advance Μετάβαση στο UMTS: Ανάλογο με τον TA (GSM) μηχανισμό είναι και Round Trip Time μηχανισμός που υποστηρίζεται στο UMTS Στο UMTS το Round Trip Time αναφέρετε κάθε 1/16 chip resolution (δίνοντας ~5m).
A bis Minicomputer L b A Minicomputer MSC/ VLR Στο GSM οι μετρήσεις αυτές περιέχουν το power level από τον ΣΒ που εξυπηρετεί το κινητό και τους ΣΒ των cells της γειτονιάς. Power Measured at MS = Power transmitted from BS + BS Antenna Gain Pathloss + Antenna Gain at MS
Σφάλματα οφείλονται σε φαινόμενα fading (τα( standards προσδιορίζουν RxLev measured accurately to +/- 4dB) PL = 69.55 + 26.16 log(f) - 13.82 log(h t ) - a(h m ) + [44.9-6.55 log(h t )] log(d) ) db a(h m ) = [1.1 log(f) - 0.7] h m - [1.56 log(f) - 0.8] db for midsize city where f operating frequency (MHz) h t transmitting station antenna height (m) h m mobile unit antenna height (m) a(h m ) correction factor for mobile unit antenna height (db) d distance from transmitting station

TOA - Uplink Time Of Arrival Uplink Time Of Arrival (TOA) είναι μια μέθοδος βασισμένη σε μετρήσεις χρόνου Σήματα από το κινητό μπορούν να ανιχνευθούν σε απομακρυσμένους γεωγραφικά δέκτες, δηλαδή σε «TOA LMUs» (συνήθως γειτονικών BS) Υπολογίζεται η TOA των σημάτων που λαμβάνονται, συγκρίνεται με την a propagation delay και η θέση του κινητού υπολογίζεται με triangulation
TOA - Uplink Time Of Arrival Η TOA εισήχθη αρχικά ως λύση στο E911 mandate. Αρχική θεωρητική απαίτηση του US E911.carriers are required to have the capability to identify the latitude and longitude of the mobile units making 911 calls within a radius of no more than 125 meters, using Root Mean Square calculations (which roughly equate to success rates of approximately 67 percent)...
TOA - how it works Απαιτείται ένα MS να ενεργοποιηθεί από το δίκτυο ώστε να εκτελέσει εικονικό handover request (forced handover) Τα σήματα του κινητού μετριούνται κατόπιν στον «TOA LMU» των BS sites TOA = T L + T P + T T + T E { T L T P T T T E LMU reference time Propagation Delay from handset to LMU Transmission time from handset Errors in measurement (noise, interference, multipath etc ) Συνδυάζονται αποτελέσματα από 2 LMUs για να δώσουν την TDOA TDOA = TOA 1 - TOA 2 = (T L1 - T L2 ) + (T P1 - T P2 ) + (T 1 T - T T2 ) + (T 1 E - T E2 ) Αν κάθε LMU μοιράζεται common clock reference (e.g. GPS) τότε ο παράγοντας (T L1 - T L2 ) μηδενίζεται
TOA - Position Estimation TDOA 12 = (T P1 - T P2 ) + Λάθη TDOA 13 = (T P1 - T P3 ) + Λάθη LMU 2 d2 TDOA 12 d3 LMU 3 d1 TDOA 13 LMU 1
TOA - Pros and Cons Τα «TOA«LMUs» συσκευές είναι πολύπλοκες και υψηλού κόστους Απαιτείται μία ανά BS Υπάρχει ένα capacity limit για το TOA system (είναι( OK for emergency services αλλά προβληματικό για commercial services) Each time a handset requests positioning, 3+ TOA LMUs will be assigned to measurements from that handset Η απόδοση εξαρτάται από το traffic στο δίκτυο και από τις καταστάσεις αλληλοπαρεμβολών.
Enhanced Observed Time Difference Η E-OTD
E-OTD - How it works TOA measurements πραγματοποιούνται στο κινητό TOA = T H + T P + T T + T E { T H Handset clock reference T P Propagation Delay from BTS to Handset T T Transmission time of signal from BTS Errors in measurement (noise, interfence, multipath etc ) T E Αποτελέσματα από 2 BS χρησιμοποιούνται στην TDOA equation OTD = TOA 1 - TOA 2 = (T H1 - T H2 ) + (T P1 - T P2 ) + (T 1 T - T T2 ) + (T 1 E - T E2 ) Η (T 1 T - T T2 ) αναστέλλεται αν η το δίκτυο είναι synchronised.
E-OTD - How it works OTD 12 = (T P1 - T P2 ) + Λάθη OTD 13 = (T P1 - T P3 ) + Λάθη Neighbour cell TDOA 12 Serving cell (T T 1 -T T 2 ) LMU TDOA 13 Neighbour cell
E-OTD - How it works Η E-OTD Ακρίβεια: ~60 meters in rural areas ~200 meters in urban area.
E-OTD Pros and Cons Πλεονεκτήματα E-OTD: Μη ουσιώδεις αλλαγές - επιδράσεις στις λειτουργίες του MS Καλή ακρίβεια και απόδοση σε περιοχές πυκνής κάλυψης με ΣΒ Καλή απόδοση και σε indοor Σε σύγκριση με τα TOA τα E-OTD LMUs είναι απλούστερα και μπορούν να αναπτυχθούν σε αναλογία 1 για κάθε 3 BSS Disadvantages of E-OTD: E Υψηλή επίδραση στο δίκτυο κόστος ανάπτυξης εγκατάστασης planning συντήρηση.
Το σύστημα είναι σε υπηρεσία από τα τέλη του 1970και χρησιμοποιείται πλέον και για εμπορικές εφαρμογές GPS consists of a network of 24 satellites in six different 12-hour orbital paths spaced so that at least five are in view from every point on the globe [9] The satellites continuously transmit data on two L-bandL frequencies. Five monitor stations and four ground antennas located around the world passively gather range data on each satellite s exact position. The system relays this information to the master control station at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado [9] Όπως το TOA και το E-OTD, το GPS είναι μια μέθοδος βασισμένη σε μετρήσεις χρόνου Το συμβατικό GPS έχει ήδη ολοκληρωθεί επιτυχώς σε GSM handsets
Conventional GPS -how it works GPS satellites continuously transmit a bit stream, containing: satellite id, GPS time and satellite trajectory models almanac, ephemeris Almanac - approximate long term model Ephemeris - accurate short term model The receiver searches for satellites, then decodes the information on transmitted, which enables it to perform position Σε σχέση με τους υπόλοιπους μηχανισμούς το GPS έχει δυσκολίες σεtime Τo o First Fix, δηλαδή το χρόνο μέχρι ένας αδρανής GPS πάρει το πρώτο σήμα positioning To GPS δεν παρέχει data return channel.
Conventional GPS - how it works [8] To obtain an accurate fix on a moving object, GPS determines how long it takes a satellite signal to reach a receiver, which generates its own signal. Assuming that the signals are synchronous, GPS compares the satellite signal s s pseudorandom number code a a digital signature unique to each satellite with the receiver s s PNC to determine the signal s travel time. The system multiplies this value by the speed of light to compute the satellite s s distance from the receiver. Because the satellites are nearly 11,000 miles away, miscalculating signal travel time by even a few millisecs causes a location error measuring as much as 200 miles. Satellites therefore use extremely precise and expensive atomic clocks. A receiver s s clock doesn t need to be as accurate because it measures the distance to a fourth satellite to synchronize its PNC with the satellites and correct for any timing offset.
Conventional GPS TDOA = TOA 1 - TOA 2 = (T H1 - T H2 ) + (T P1 - T P2 ) + (T 1 T - T T2 ) + (T 1 E - T E2 ) TDOA 12 = (T P1 - T P2 ) + Λάθη TDOA 13 = (T P1 - T P3 ) + Λάθη 3 Satellites gives a 2D position estimate 4+ Satellites gives an 3D position estimate
Conventional GPS Technology Rural Sub-urban Urban Indoor user GPS ~10m ~20m 30-100m No indoor coverage Το συμβατικό GPS παρέχει ακρίβεια, αλλά : has no indoor coverage works poorly when the sky is even partially obscured has a slow time to fix unless it is permanently tracking satellites tes
Assisted GPS Για να αντιμετωπιστούν οι περιορισμοί του παραδοσιακού GPS, προτάθηκε το Assisted GPS was proposed (T1P1.5 standards for E911) Assisted GPS is based upon providing GPS satellite information to the handset, via the cellular network Assistance Data Position Data A-GPS gives improvements in Time to First Fix Battery Life Cost

A-GPS Evolution to UMTS With Assisted GPS: A reference receiver provides navigation and signal timing data to a location server (SMLC or AGPS server The Server relays this information to a GPS-enabled MS or PDA. The client device (MS or MDA) preprocesses The client device returns basic GPS measurements along with statistical measures that characterize the signal environment to the Server The Server performs a series of complex calculations on data received from the client to determine the user s position.
A-GPS Pros and Cons Advantages of A-GPS: A Low impact on Network Infrastructure Excellent outdoor performance Good evolution path to UMTS Disadvantages of A-GPS: A Major modification to handset functionality Penetration starts at 0% Improved yet variable indoor coverage
