GLUTEUS MAXIMUS= ΜΕΙΖΩΝ ΓΛΟΥΤΙΑΙΟς Basic functional movement: Walking upstairs, rising from sitting Sports that heavily utilize the muscle: Running Surfing Wind surfing Jumping Weightlifting
TENSOR FASCIAE LATAE= Ο ΤΕΙΝΩΝ ΤΗΝ ΠΛΑΤΕΙΑ ΠΕΡΙΤΟΝΙΑ Basic functional movement: Walking Sports that heavily utilize the muscle: Horse riding Hurdling Water skiing Common problems when the muscle is tight: Pelvic imbalances, leading to pain in hips, lower back & lateral area of knees. Πυελική ανισορροπία που προκαλεί πόνο στους γοφούς, πόνο στο κάτω μέρος της πλάτης & πλευρικά των γονάτων.
GLUTEUS MEDIUS= ΜΕςΟς ΓΛΟΥΤΙΑΙΟς Basic functional movement: Stepping sideways over an object such as a low fence (=περνάω πάνω από ένα φράχτη) Sports that utilize the muscle: All sports that require side-stepping, ice-skating Common problems when the muscle is tight: Pelvic imbalances, leading to pain in hips, lower back & lateral area of knees.

PIRIFORMIS= ΑΠΙΟΕΙΔΗς Basic functional movement: Taking first leg out of car Sports that utilize the muscle: Swimming(breast stroke legs) Soccer o Common problems when the muscle is tight: Hypertonic muscle may squeeze the sciatic nerve, causing piriformis syndrome, that is sciatic pain(πόνος στο ισχίο) which begins in the buttocks(γλουτούς).
DEEP LATERAL HIP ROTATORS = ΕΝ ΤΩ ΒΑΘΕΙ ΠΛΕΥΡΙΚΟΙ ςτροφεις ΤΩΝ ΓΟΦΩΝ Basic functional movement: Taking first leg out of car Sports that utilize the muscle: Swimming(breast stroke legs) Soccer
HAMSTRINGS Basic function: When running, the hamstrings slow down the leg at the end of its forward swing and prevent the trunk from flexing at the hip point. Ενώ τρέχουμε, ο μυς αποτρέπει τον κορμό να τεντωθεί στους γοφούς. Exercised in: Sprinting Hurdling Soccer(back kicks) Jumping & weightlifting
HAMSTRINGS Τhey can be injured by: Sudden lengthening of muscle without sufficient warm-up. Απότομη έκταση του ποδιού χωρίς κατάλληλο ζέσταμα. Common problems: Low back pain, knee pain, restriction of stride length in walking/running Πόνος χαμηλά στην πλάτη, πόνος στα γόνατα, περιορισμός στην έκταση των δρασκελιών τόσο στο βάδην όσο και στο τρέξιμο.
ADDUCTORS= ΠΡΟςΑΓΩΓΟΙ Basic function: Bringing second leg in or out of car Exercised in: Horse riding, judo, wrestling, hurdling, soccer(side passes), swimming They can be injured in: Side splits or high side kicks without sufficient warmup. Common problems: Groin pulls(τράβηγμα στη βουβωνική χώρα)
GRACILIS= ΙςΧΝΟς ΠΡΟςΑΓΩΓΟς, ΕςΩ ΟΡΘΟς ΜΗΡΙΑΙΟς Basic functional movement: Sitting with knees pressed together Exercised in: Horse riding Hurdling Soccer They can be injured in: Side splits or high side kicks without sufficient warmup. Common problems: Groin pulls
PECTINEUS= ΚΤΕΝΙΤΗς Basic movement: Walking along a straight line Περπάτημα σε μία ευθεία Exercised in: Horse riding, rugby, sprinting(maximizes stride length),kicking sports(soccer) They can be injured in: Side splits or high side kicks without sufficient warm-up. Common problems: Groin pulls
SARTORIUS= ΡΑΠΤΙΚΟς ΜΥς Exercised when we want to sit cross-legged Χρησιμοποιείται όταν καθόμαστε σταυροπόδι Sports that utilize this muscle: Ballet, skating, soccer It can be damaged: when we are over ambitious with yoga exercises in cross-legged Common problems: Pain or damage inside of the knee
QUADRICEPS= ΤΕΤΡΑΚΕΦΑΛΟς We exercise the muscles when we walk up stairs or cycle. They are mainly exercised in ski, all jump events, kicking sports, weight lifting. Common problems when they are tight: Low back pain, knee pain, knee instability
