ΗΛΕΚΤΡΟΝΙΚΗ ΜΑΘΗΣΗ Όλοι οι μαθητές των σχολείων και προγραμμάτων της ΕΚΤ έχουν πρόσβαση στο πρόγραμμα ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης που ξεκίνησε σε πιλοτική φάση τη σχολική χρονιά 2011-12. ΕΝΗΛΙΚΕΣ ΕΦΗΒΟΙ Σε συνεργασία με την έδρα ελληνικών σπουδών στο Πανεπιστήμιο Simon Fraser, αναπτύσσεται υλικό για την υποστήριξη της διδασκαλίας της ελληνικής γλώσσας στα σχολεία μας μέσω διαδικτύου. Το υλικό αυτό εφαρμόζεται στα τμήματα ενηλίκων και στα προγράμματα credit. Οι μαθητές σε συνεργασία με τους καθηγητές τους μπορούν να εργάζονται στο σπίτι ή στο σχολείο πάνω σε συγκεκριμένες ενότητες και δραστηριότητες συγκεκριμένες ενότητες και δραστηριότητες που υπάρχουν στο πρόγραμμα «Οδυσσέας» για τη διδασκαλία της ελληνικής. ΜΑΘΗΤΕΣ ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΟΥ-ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟΥ-ΛΥΚΕΙΟΥ Τα σχολεία της ΕΚΤ συμμετέχουν στο δίκτυο ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης που ξεκίνησε τον Ιανουάριο του 2012, με τη συμμετοχή σχολείων και τμημάτων ελληνικής γλώσσας από όλον τον κόσμο. Το φιλόδοξο αυτό πρόγραμμα επιδοτείται από το Υπουργείο Παιδείας της Ελλάδας και την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση ονομάζεται «Ελληνόγλωσση Πρωτοβάθμια και Δευτεροβάθμια Διαπολιτισμική Εκπαίδευση στη Διασπορά» και εκπονείται από το ΕΔΙΑΜΜΕ του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης. Στόχος του προγράμματος είναι να αναπτυχθεί σε ψηφιακή μορφή πάνω σε μια διαδραστική ηλεκτρονική πλατφόρμα, όλο το διδακτικό υλικό που προσφέρεται για την ελληνόγλωσση εκπαίδευση στη διασπορά. Η πλατφόρμα αυτή θα χρησιμοποιηθεί από μαθητές και δασκάλους τόσο στη τάξη όσο και για εξ αποστάσεως διδασκαλία γλώσσας, πολιτισμού και ιστορίας. Παράλληλα μέσω του προγράμματος αυτού γίνονται συνεργασίες μεταξύ σχολείων, εκπαιδευτικών και αδελφοποιήσεις τάξεων, συγκροτώντας κοινότητες μάθησης. Έτσι, τα σχολεία της ΕΚΤ θα επικοινωνούν με άλλα ομογενειακά κέντρα στον Καναδά, τις ΗΠΑ, την Ευρώπη, την Αυστραλία, κλπ. e-learning All the students of the GCT schools and programs have access to the e-learning program, which began as a pilot project during the 2011-2012 school year. ADULT PROGRAM In co-operation with the Hellenic Studies Chair at Simon Fraser University, material is being developed to support the teaching of the Greek language in schools via the internet. This material is being used by the Adult Greek Classes and the Credit school program of the GCT. In co-operation with their teachers, students will be able to work from home or at school on specific units of the Odysseas Greek language tutor program. PRIMARY/JR. HIGH/HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Schools of the GCT take part in a web-based learning project, which began in January 2012. In this project, several Greek language schools and programs participate from all over the world. Sponsored by the Greek Ministry of Education and the European Union, the Greek Language Primary, Jr. High and High School Education in the Diaspora is run by the EDIAMME department of the University of Crete. The aim of this program is to help network and organize Greek language instruction online by utilizing an e-platform. This platform will be used by students and teachers for interactive or distance-based lessons on language, culture and history. Through this program, a network will be set up amongst schools, student groups and sister classes which will form learning communities. Thus, the Greek Community schools will be able to communicate with other centres of the omogenia, including other parts of Canada, the United States of America, Europe, Australia, etc. 11

ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΩΝ / DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα Τα προγράμματα καλλιέργειας της Ελληνικής Γλώσσας και Πολιτισμού στα σχολεία μας ακολουθούν το Θεωρητικό Πλαίσιο και τα Προγράμματα Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης (Παιδεία Ομογενών-Ελληνόγλωσση Διαπολιτισμική Εκπαίδευση στη Διασπορά) σε συνδυασμό με τις αρχές πιστοποίησης επάρκειας της Ελληνομάθειας ανά επίπεδο, όπως ορίζονται από το Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας του υπουργείου Παιδείας της Ελλάδας. Στο Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα κάθε τάξης-επιπέδου λαμβάνονται επίσης υπόψη: α) οι βασικές αρχές για τη διδασκαλία δεύτερης/ ξένης γλώσσας και οι σύγχρονες επικοινωνιακές παιδαγωγικές θεωρίες και μέθοδοι διδασκαλίας και αξιολόγησης, β) η σύνδεση της αγγλικής με την ελληνική γλώσσα, κυρίως μέσα από την πληθώρα λέξεωνεκφράσεων ελληνικής προέλευσης που ήδη γνωρίζουν οι μαθητές από το πρωινό τους σχολείο, γ) η ηλικία και το στάδιο γνωστικής, συναισθηματικής και ψυχολογικής ανάπτυξης των μαθητών, δ) το φυσικό, πολυπολιτισμικό και κοινωνικό περιβάλλον του Καναδά και της ελληνικής παροικίας στην οποία συμμετέχουν οι μαθητές, ε) οι νέες τεχνολογίες και οι δυνατότητες εκπαιδευτικής και παιδαγωγικής αξιοποίησης ηλεκτρονικών πηγών και εργαλείων του διαδικτύου, στ) το φυσικό, πολιτισμικό και κοινωνικό περιβάλλον της σύγχρονης Ελλάδας, ζ) το Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα της επαρχίας του Οντάριο για κάθε τάξη και γνωστικό αντικείμενο και η) ο χρόνος που έχουν οι μαθητές στη διάθεσή τους για την ελληνόγλωσση εκπαίδευση, σε συνδυασμό με άλλες σχολικές και εξωσχολικές τους δραστηριότητες. Οι μαθητές των σχολείων μας επιδιώκεται να συμμετέχουν στις εξετάσεις της Ελληνομάθειας, με σκοπό την αξιολόγηση της συστηματικής εκμάθησης της ελληνικής γλώσσας και της α π ό κ τ η σ η ς δ ι ε θ ν ώ ς α ν α γ ν ω ρ ι σ μ έ ν ο υ πιστοποιητικού. Σε όλα τα τμήματα της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας από το νηπιαγωγείο μέχρι την 2 α Γυμνασίου οι μαθητές εκτός από το γλωσσικό μάθημα, διδάσκονται παραδοσιακούς χορούς και τραγούδια, λαογραφία, στοιχεία ιστορίας, μυθολογίας, γεωγραφίας και καλές τέχνες. Curriculum The educational programs designed to cultivate the Greek Language and Culture at the schools of the GCT follow the Course of Studies put forward by the University of Crete (Education of the Omogenia Greek Language Education of the Diaspora), in conjunction with the language standards put forward in the Ellinomatheia testing by level (determined by the Centre for Greek Language of the Greek Ministry of Education). The curriculum of every class/level is determined taking the following into account: a) The basic theoretical principles for the teaching of a second/foreign language and the application of progressive paedagogical theories and methods of instruction and assessment b) The connection between the English and Greek languages, especially with the plethora of wordsexpressions derived from the Greek which are known by the students from their day school subjects c) The age and the intellectual, emotional and psychological development stage of the students d) Canada s multicultural, social and natural environment, along with the Greek community which the students are a part of e) The new information and communication technologies and the possibilities of educational and pedagogic applications of online resources and Web2.0 tools f) The natural, cultural and social environment of modern Greece g) The Curriculum of the Province of Ontario for every grade h) The time (limitations) which students have at their disposal for Greek language education, after other school and extra-curricular activities. All our students are encouraged to participate in the Ellinomatheia exams, in order to manage their systematic learning of the Greek language, along with the attainment of a worldwide-recognized certificate. In all levels of the Greek Community programs from Kindergarten to Grade 8 our students are taught in addition to Modern Greek language: traditional dances and songs, folklore, history, mythology, geography and arts. 13

Προγράμματα Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης Νηπιαγωγείο 2 α Τάξη (4-8 ετών) Ξ ε κ ι ν ώ ν τ α ς α π ό τ ο προαναγνωστικό στάδιο και το στάδιο του αλφαβητισμού, το πρόγραμμα του νηπιαγωγείου και των δύο πρώτων τάξεων του δημοτικού σχολείου, στοχεύει στο να θέσει γερά θεμέλια για την εκμάθηση της ελληνικής γλώσσας και κληρονομιάς και τη διαπραγμάτευση από τους μ α θ η τ έ ς τ η ς ε λ λ η ν ι κ ή ς πολιτισμικής τους ταυτότητας. Βασικοί σκοποί αυτού του πρώτου επιπέδου είναι: α) Η εξοικείωση των νηπίων και των μικρών μαθητών με τον προφορικό αλλά και γραπτό ελληνικό λόγο, με φυσικό και παιγνιώδη τρόπο και η ανάπτυξη των πρώτων βασικών γλωσσικών δεξιοτήτων στα ελληνικά (κατανόηση και παραγωγή προφορικού λόγου, ανάγνωση, γραφή και επικοινωνία). β) Το να γνωρίσουν και να εκτιμήσουν οι μαθητές τα σ τ ο ι χ ε ί α τ ο υ ε λ λ η ν ι κ ο ύ π ο λ ι τ ι σ μ ο ύ τ α ο π ο ί α μεταφέρονται με όχημα την ελληνική γλώσσα και να προσεγγίσουν διαισθητικά τη διγλωσσία τους, που θα τους βοηθήσει σημαντικά στην ακαδημαϊκή τους εξέλιξη και τη διπολιτισμικότητά τους. Γνωρίζοντας ότι οι μαθητές μας έ χ ο υ ν π λ έ ο ν ε λ ά χ ι σ τ ε ς δ υ ν α τότητες χ ρ ήσης τη ς ελληνικής γλώσσας στο άμεσο οικογενειακό και κοινωνικό τους περιβάλλον κι επειδή τα πρώτα χρόνια διδασκαλίας είναι θεμελιώδη, αυτό το πρόγραμμα έχει ως βάση του την επικοινωνία στην ελληνική γλώσσα μέσα από τα παιχνίδια, το θέατρο, τη μουσική, το χορό, την τέχνη και τα παραμύθια. Στη φάση αυτή επιδιώκεται να αγαπήσουν τα παιδιά το ελληνικό σχολικό περιβάλλον και να το συνδέσουν ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΩΝ με ευκαιρίες ψυχαγωγίας και δημιουργικής έκφρασης ώστε να μπορέσουν να επικοινωνήσουν με τα οικεία και αγαπημένα τους πρόσωπα, να εκφραστούν, να παίξουν, να κάνουν φιλίες και να μάθουν να συνεργάζονται χρησιμοποιώντας την ελληνική γλώσσα. Η σύνδεση του ελληνικού προγράμματος με τα όσα διδάσκονται οι μαθητές στο πρωινό σχολείο επιτυγχάνεται με την πρόσληψη εκπαιδευτικών που εργάζονται παράλληλα και σε ημερήσια σχολεία, ενώ αξιοποιούνται οι νέες τεχνολογίες για την επαφή των παιδιών με σύγχρονο και διαδραστικό οπτικοακουστικό υλικό που κάνει την εκμάθηση της ελληνικής γλώσσας πιο ευχάριστη και διασκεδαστική. 3η 6η Τάξη (9-12 ετών) Επίπεδο Ελληνομάθειας Α1 Στο στάδιο αυτό, οι μαθητές καλούνται να βελτιώσουν τις β α σ ι κ έ ς λ ε ι τ ο υ ρ γ ί ε ς τ η ς προφορι κής και γραπτής έκφρασης που κατέκτησαν στο πρώτο επίπεδο. Χρησιμοποιώντας απλές προτάσεις και βασικό λεξιλόγιο μέσα από θεματολογία σχετική με το περιβάλλον και τα ε ν δ ι α φ έ ρ ο ν τ ά τ ο υ ς, θ α αποκτήσουν μεγαλύτερη άνεση στο να μιλούν για τον εαυτό τους και τον οικείο τους κοινωνικό και φυσικό περίγυρο και να επικοινωνούν με τους φίλους και τους συμμαθητές τους. Εδώ θα επιδιωχθεί η ηλεκτρονική σύνδεση μεταξύ μαθητών δ ι α φ ο ρ ε τ ι κ ώ ν ε λ λ η ν ι κ ώ ν σχολείων (αδελφοποιήσεις τάξεων) ώστε να δοθούν στους μαθητές επιπλέον κίνητρα για να χρησιμοποιήσουν τη γλώσσα σε π ε ρ ι σ τ ά σ ε ι ς π ρ α γ μ α τ ι κ ή ς επικοινωνίας με συνομήλικούς τους από άλλα σχολεία και ελληνόγλωσσα προγράμματα σε όλο τον κόσμο. Θα είναι σε θέση να συζητούν, να κατανοούν και να εκφράζουν προφορικά και γραπτά (αλλά και μέσα από τη χρήση νέων τεχνολογιών) τις εμπειρίες τους από την καθημερινότητά τους στο σχολείο και τις υπόλοιπες δραστηριότητές τους. Με την ολοκλήρωση του επιπέδου οι μαθητές θα είναι έτοιμοι να συμμετάσχουν στις εξετάσεις για το πρώτο επίπεδο της Ελληνομάθειας όπου θα αποδειχθεί η εμπέδωση των βασικών δεξιοτήτων παραγωγής προφορικού και γραπτού λόγου στην ελληνική γλώσσα. Επίσης οι μαθητές θα γνωρίσουν και θα βιώσουν αξίες και πρότυπα μέσα από τα πρώτα κείμενα ελληνικής μυθολογίας και ιστορίας που θα διδαχθούν. Θα γνωρίσουν στοιχεία της λαϊκής και θρησκευτικής παράδοσης και θα συμμετέχουν σε δρώμενα, εκδηλώσεις και σχολικές γιορτές που θα τους επιτρέψουν να συνειδητοποιήσουν τ η δ ι α π ο λ ι τ ι σ μ ι κ ή τ ο υ ς ταυτότητα ανακαλύπτοντας π.χ. τα ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά της ελληνικής κουζίνας σε σχέση με τη συνηθισμένη καναδική διατροφή ή τα ακούσματα των ελληνικών παραδοσιακών και λαϊκών μουσικών οργάνων σε σχέση με τη μουσική που κυριαρχεί στο κοινωνικό τους περιβάλλον. Επιπλέον μέσα από την ελληνική γλώσσα οι μαθητές σε αυτό το επίπεδο θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να έλθουν σε επαφή με θέματα και προβλήματα που απασχολούν την ανθρωπότητα και να καλλιεργήσουν την κριτική τους σκέψη. Οι μαθητές που ολοκληρώνουν το πρόγραμμα της 6 ης τάξης λ α μ β ά ν ο υ ν α π ο λ υ τ ή ρ ι ο 14

Primary School Program Kindergarten Grade 2 (4-8 years old) Starting from the pre-reading and alphabet stages, the kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 programs aims at placing firm roots in the proper learning of the Greek language and culture along with teaching students about their Greek heritage and identity. Basic goals of this first level are: a) The familiarization of kindergarten and other young students with speaking (but also emphasizing writing), presenting the four main skills (understanding and creation of the spoken word, reading, writing and communication). b) For students to understand and appreciate aspects of the Greek culture (which are displayed through various texts and stories) and to approach their bilingualism positively, which will greatly help them both in their academic progress and the negotiation of their hybrid cultural identity. Knowing that our students often have limited opportunities when it comes to using the Greek language in the immediate family s e t t i n g a n d w i t h t h e i r friends, the first years of teaching the language build the foundations for the future. This program has been based on communicating the Greek language through games, theatre, music, dance, art and story-telling. This is meant for children to learn to love the Greek school environment and to connect it with times of entertainment and creative expression. It will also allow them to express themselves, play, make new friendships and to learn to collaborate using the Greek language. The connection of the DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS Greek program with all that students learn in their day school program is also achieved through the hiring of educators who are certified to teach in Ontario. New technologies are also used for communication, practicing and homework purposes, making the learning of the Greek language more enjoyable and amusing for our young students. Grades 3 6 (9-12 years old) Ellinomatheia Level Α1 At this level, students are expected to progress in their basic knowledge of spoken and written expression building on what they already learned at the primary grades. Using simple sentences and a basic vocabulary through different themes associated with their familiar environment and their interests, they will develop greater confidence to speak (and write) about themselves and their surroundings, along with communicating with their friends and classmates. At this stage, electronic communication means can be used in collaboration with other Greek school classes (sister-class projects), so that students may have more incentives to use the language in real communication circumstances with their peers from other schools and Greek-language learners from all over the world. They will be in a position to discuss, understand and express orally and through written and multimodal means their daily experiences at school and their other daily activities. With the completion of this level, students will be ready to participate in the first level of the Ellinomatheia examinations, where all four language skills will be tested. Furthermore, students will learn Greek ideals through examples found in Greek mythology and history which will be taught. They will learn about the Greek culture and religious traditions, and they will take part in school events, which will let them understand their dual identity as Greek-Canadians (understanding, for example, the particular characteristics of Greek cuisine in comparison with regular Canadian cuisine or listening to different traditional Greek musical instruments and comparing them to music which is prevalent in their environment). Students will also have the opportunity to discuss modern contemporary issues, using their Greek language skills while enriching their critical thinking. Students that complete the Grade 6 program will receive a Primary School diploma. 15

Προγράμματα Γυμνασίου 1η 2α Τάξη Γυμνασίου «7η και 8η» (13-14 ετών) Επίπεδο Ελληνομάθειας Α2 Σε αυτό το επίπεδο, οι μαθητές θ α α ν α π τ ύ ξ ο υ ν α κ ό μ η πε ρισσ ό τε ρο τι ς βα σικές επικοινωνιακές δεξιότητες ώστε να μπορούν να επικοινωνούν με επιτυχία σε ένα πιο σύνθετο προφορικό και γραπτό λόγο. Θα μπορούν να χρησιμοποιήσουν την ελληνική γλώσσα σε επίσημο ή φιλικό/ανεπίσημο τόνο. Θα είναι σε θέση να καταλαβαίνουν προτάσεις και εκφράσεις που συχνά ακούγονται σε προσωπικό ή και οικογενειακό περιβάλλον κ α ι θ α μ π ο ρ ο ύ ν ν α επικοινωνήσουν για θέματα καθημερινά ή και για έκτακτες περιπτώσεις που απαιτούν ανταλλαγή πληροφοριών. Θα μπορούν να μεταφράζουν μικρά κείμενα, να καταλαβαίνουν τους στίχους των αγαπημένων τους ελληνικών τραγουδιών και να παρακολουθούν συζητήσεις και εκπομπές που συνδέονται με τα μαθήματα ή τα ενδιαφέροντά τους. Επίσης, θα είναι πλέον σε θέση να εξοικειωθούν προοδευτικά με σ τ ο ι χ ε ί α τ η ς ε λ λ η ν ι κ ή ς πολιτισμικής κληρονομιάς και της ορθόδοξης παράδοσης, μέσα από την προσέγγιση και μελέτη κειμένων ποικίλων τύπων (αφηγηματικά, περιγραφικά κλπ) και την αξιοποίηση του διαδικτύου και των πηγών που προσφέρονται σε ηλεκτρονική μορφή. Μέσα από κείμενα και παρουσιάσεις θα ολοκληρώσουν την εξοικείωσή τους με όλες τις περιοχές της Ελλάδας και τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό, έτσι όπως εξελίχθηκε στο πέρασμα των αιώνων από την εποχή της αρχαιότητας μέχρι και τη σύγχρονη περίοδο. Σ κ ο π ό ς τ ο υ κ ο ι ν ο τ ι κ ο ύ προγράμματος σε αυτό το επίπεδο είναι να εμπλουτιστεί το πολιτισμικό κεφάλαιο των μαθητών και να διαμορφώσουν την εθνοπολιτισμική τους ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΩΝ ταυτότητα αποδεχόμενοι την ελληνικότητά τους εφόσον έχουν καταφέρει να αναπτύξουν την ελληνική γλώσσα σε τέτοιο επίπεδο ώστε να θεωρούνται πλέον δίγλωσσοι. Στο πλαίσιο αυτού του επιπέδου θα συνεχιστούν προγράμματα αδελφοποίησης τάξεων και συνεργασίας με άλλα σχολεία της δ ι α σ π ο ρά ς με α μ ο ι β α ί ε ς επισκέψεις μαθητών ή σύγχρονης ε π ι κ ο ι ν ω ν ί α ς τ ο υ ς μ έ σ ω διαδικτύου. Για την ολοκλήρωση του επιπέδου απαιτείται η συμμετοχή στις εξετάσεις της Ελληνομάθειας (Α2) και η εκπόνηση δύο εργασιών (μιας ατομικής και μιας ομαδικής) σε θέματα που ανταποκρίνονται στο επίπεδο και τα ενδιαφέροντα των μαθητών. Προγράμματα Credit (Η ΔΕΥΤΕΡΗ ΕΥΚΑΙΡΙΑ) Είναι πολύ σημαντικό για τους γονείς και τους μαθητές να αντιληφθούν ότι η ελληνόγλωσση εκπαίδευση δεν σταματά στη 2α Γυμνασίου. Στο Τορόντο η Ελληνική Κοινότητα έχει καταφέρει να οργανώσει ένα συγ κροτημέν ο π ρόγ ραμμα ελληνικής γλώσσας για μαθητές 9 ης -12 ης τάξης. Αυτό πρακτικά σημαίνει ότι οι μαθητές μας όχι μόνο μπορούν να συνεχίσουν και να βελτιώσουν την εκμάθηση της ελληνικής που ξεκίνησαν στο Δημοτικό αλλά να συνδυάσουν τη φοίτησή τους στο Λύκειο Αριστοτέλης της Κοινότητας με την απόκτηση τεσσάρων credits που θα τους βοηθήσουν να πάρουν λιγότερα μαθήματα στο π ρ ω ι ν ό σ χ ο λ ε ί ο κ α ι ν α χρησιμοποιήσουν το βαθμό της ελληνικής γλώσσας για την ε ι σ α γ ω γ ή τ ο υ ς σ τ ο Πανεπιστήμιο. Επιπλέον το σχολείο credit δίνει στους έφηβους ελληνικής καταγωγής την ευκαιρία να γνωριστούν με συνομήλικούς τους, να φτιάξουν την ελληνική τους παρέα και να συμμετέχουν σε χορούς και διάφορες πολιτιστικές και αθλητικές εκδηλώσεις. 16 Σημειώνεται ότι η φοίτηση στο σχολείο credit δεν προϋποθέτει καλή γνώση της ελληνικής γλώσσας. Δυνατότητα να παρακολουθήσουν το πρόγραμμα και να πάρουν credit έχουν και οι μαθητές που είναι αρχάριοι ή δεν είναι καν ελληνικής καταγωγής. Συνεπώς το πρόγραμμα αυτό λειτουργεί ως το ελληνικό σχολείο της δεύτερης ευκαιρίας. 3η Γυμνασίου 1η Λυκείου («9η και 10η») (LBHAD-LBHBD) Επίπεδο Ελληνομάθειας Β1 (για μαθητές που συνεχίζουν από την 8 η Τάξη) ή Α1 (για αρχάριους) Στις πρώτες δυο τ ά ξ ε ι ς τ η ς δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης οι στόχοι είναι διαφορετικοί, ανάλογα με το αν ο μαθητής ή η μαθήτρια συνεχίζει τη φοίτηση στο ελληνικό σχολείο ανελλιπώς από το νηπιαγωγείο ή αν μόλις τώρα ξεκινά τη συστηματική ε κμάθησ η τ ης ε λ λη ν ι κής γλώσσας. Για τους μαθητές της πρώτης κατηγορίας (που έχουν κάνει τουλάχιστον 6 χρόνια ελληνικά σε σχολείο) οι σκοποί αυτού του επίπεδου είναι: Α) Να καλλιεργηθεί ακόμη περισσότερο η γ λωσσική ικανότητα των μαθητών στον προφορικό και γραπτό λόγο, ώστε να κατανοούν και να παράγουν μεγαλύτερα και πιο α π α ι τ η τ ι κ ά κ ε ί μ ε ν α σ τ α ελληνικά, τόσο σε σχέση με το ύφος και την έκφραση όσο και σε σχέση με το περιεχόμενο. Θα πρέπει π.χ. να είναι σε θέση να διαβάσουν εφημερίδα, να π α ρ α κ ο λ ο υ θ ή σ ο υ ν δ ε λ τ ί α ειδήσεων ή να μπορούν να φέρουν σε πέρας πιο σύνθετες εργασίες αξιολογώντας και χρησιμοποιώντας διαφορετικές πηγές. Jr. High School Programs Grades 7 and 8 Ellinomatheia Level Α2 At this level, students will expand their communication skills so they may communicate with fluency in a more complex way, both orally and through the written word. They will be trained to use the Greek language in both an official and unofficial way. They will be able to understand sentences and phrases that are frequently used in a personal and family atmosphere and will be able to communicate about daily topics or even about extraordinary cases which require information exchange. They will be able to translate small texts, understand the verses of their favourite Greek songs and follow discussions and television programs that are connected with the lessons or their interests. Also, they will be in a position to better und e r s t a n d and make c o n n e c - tions between Hellenic and Orthodox cultural traditions through the study of various texts and the use of the internet and electronic resources. Through stories, articles and presentations, they will complete their familiarization with all the areas of Greece and Greek civilization as it progressed through the passage of time from the ancient, classic and byzantine to the modern era. The aim of the community program at this level is to enrich the cultural wealth of students and allow them to develop their Greek language skills to such a degree, DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS that they are considered bilingual. In the context of this level, sisterclass programs and collaborations with other schools of the diaspora will continue, as well as participation in mutual student exchange programs and through both synchronous and asynchronous communication media. For the completion of this level, it is mandatory for students to participate in the A2 level exams of Ellinomatheia, along with the submission of two projects (one individual and one group) on topics picked by the students. Credit Programs ( THE SECOND CHANCE ) It is very important for parents and students to understand that Greek language education does not end at Grade 8! In Toronto, the GCT has been able to organize an established Greek language program for students in high school (Grades 9 to 12). This means that students can not only continue to improve their knowledge of the Greek language (something which began in primary school), but they can also obtain four credits from our Aristotele s Credit School to go towards their high school diploma, thus making the course load lighter during day school. Grades obtained through the Modern Greek language programs can be used towards their final average as they apply for University. The Credit school also allows teenagers of Greek descent the chance to meet their peers, to form new friendships within the community and to participate in dances and various other cultural and athletic events. It should be noted that studying at the Credit School does not require students to have a good knowledge of the Greek language. Students who have very little or no knowledge of Greek or even students who are not of Greek ancestry can join the Credit program as beginners. Therefore, this program could be described as The Second Chance Greek language school, providing another opportunity to those who didn t have the chance to study the language at the elementary level. Grades 9 and 10 (LBHAD-LBHBD) Ellinomatheia Level B1 (for students who are continuing from Gr. 8) or Α1 (for teenagers-beginners) In the first 2 grades/courses of high school, the goals are different, according to the student if they have been studying Greek from kindergarten or if they have just begun studying the language. For students in the first category (who have been learning Greek for at least 6 years), the aims of this level are: Α) To further cultivate the linguistic abilities, both orally and through written word, so they may understand and create greater and more difficult texts in Greek in relation to style, expression and its contents. For example, they should be in a position to read a newspaper, to follow the Greek news or to understand more demanding texts. They will become acquainted with basic elements of contemporary Greek civilization, especially social life, interpersonal relationships, basic values and attitudes. 17

Β) Επιδιωκόμενο είναι να αποκτήσουν οι νέες και νέοι ελληνικής καταγωγής συνείδηση της εφηβικής ταυτότητας όχι μόνο όπως αυτή διαμορφώνεται στην Ελλάδα αλλά και στο πολυπολιτισμικό περιβάλλον της Διασποράς επισημαίνοντας ομοιότητες και διαφορές στις δύο περιστάσεις. Για τους μαθητές της δεύτερης κατηγορίας (αρχάριους), όσους δηλαδή ξεκινούν από την 3η Γυμνασίου τη διαδικασία συστηματικής εκμάθησης της ε λ λ η ν ι κ ή ς γ λ ώ σ σ α ς, ακολουθούνται οι οδηγίες και θ ε μ α τ ι κ έ ς ε ν ό τ η τ ε ς τ ο υ υπουργείου Παιδείας του Οντάριο για το πρόγραμμα credit - Διεθνών Γλωσσών με έμφαση κυρίως στον προφορικό λόγο. Οι μαθητές αφού περάσουν από το στάδιο του αλφαβητισμού, που δ ι α ρ κ ε ί 6-8 ε β δ ο μ ά δ ε ς, ενθαρρύνονται να επικοινωνούν μέσα στην τάξη χωρίς να δίνεται έμφαση σε γραμματικά ή εκφραστικά λάθη ενώ σταδιακά δ ι δ ά σ κ ο ν τ α ι π ώ ς ν α επιτυγχάνουν λειτουργικούς επικοινωνιακούς στόχους, να ανταποκρίνονται σε βασικούς γραμματικούς/συντακτικούς κανόνες, να εμπλουτίζουν το λεξιλόγιό τους μέσα από σ υ γ κ ε κ ρ ι μ έ ν ε ς θ ε μ α τ ι κ έ ς ενότητες και να αναγνωρίζουν διαφορετικά κειμενικά είδη. Με την ολοκλήρωση της 10 ης τάξης οι μαθητές που έχουν ήδη συμμετάσχει στις εξετάσεις του επιπέδου Ελληνομάθειας Α2 θα είναι σε θέση να διεκδικήσουν την πιστοποίησή τους στο επίπεδο Β1 ενώ οι αρχάριοι θα ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΩΝ μπορούν να εξεταστούν στο επίπεδο Α1 για εφήβους. 2α 3η Λυκείου («11η και 12η») (LBHCU, LBHDU) Επίπεδο Ελληνομάθειας Β2 (για μαθητές που συνεχίζουν από την 8 η Τάξη) ή Α2 (για όσους συνεχίζουν από το Α1) Οι μαθητές σε αυτό το επίπεδο θα πρέπει να έχουν την δυνατότητα να χρησιμοποιήσουν την ελληνική γλώσσα με άνεση και αυθορμητισμό για να μιλήσουν με ανθρώπους που έχουν τα ελληνικά ως μητρική γλώσσα. Πρέπει να καταλαβαίνουν τις βασικές ιδέες όχι μόνο σε συγκεκριμένα αλλά και σε αφηρημένα θέματα και να επικοινωνούν για πιο τεχνικά θέματα που σχετίζονται με την ειδίκευση ή τα ενδιαφέροντά τους (τέχνη, αθλητισμός, επιστήμες κλπ). Οι μαθητές που βρίσκονται στο στάδιο αυτό, έχοντας ολοκληρώσει 12 ετές πρόγραμμα ελληνόγλωσσης εκπαίδευσης μπορούν να παράγουν λόγο με σαφήνεια και λεπτομέρεια, είναι σε θέση να επιχειρηματολογήσουν αλλά και να χειριστούν καταστάσεις καθημερινών συναλλαγών με ευελιξία και ετοιμότητα. Ακόμη πρέπει να γνωρίζουν και να είναι σε θέση να συμπεριφέρονται κατάλληλα, σύμφωνα με τις κοινωνικές συνήθειες, να είναι εξοικει ωμένοι με β ασικά χαρακτηριστικά του σύγχρονου ελληνικού πολιτισμού, να εχουν επίγνωση των συνηθειών και εθίμων και να αντιλαμβάνονται τις κυριότερες διαφορές σε κοινωνικόπολιτισμικό επίπεδο που υπάρχουν μεταξύ των φυσικών ομιλητών της ελληνικής γλώσσας και των άλλων μελών της πολυπολιτισμικής κοινωνίας. Όπως στο προηγούμενο επίπεδο, έτσι κι εδώ, είναι διαφορετικές οι απαιτήσεις ανάμεσα στους α ρ χ ά ρ ι ο υ ς κ α ι τ ο υ ς προχωρημένους μαθητές ενώ η ύλη και οι διδακτικές ενότητες καθορίζονται από το αναλυτικό πρόγραμμα του υπουργείου Παιδείας του Οντάριο. Σε ότι αφορά το επίπεδο Ελληνομάθειας, οι μαθητές που συμμετείχαν στο επίπεδο Β1 τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, μπορούν στο τέλος του Λυκείου να ανταποκριθούν στο επίπεδο Β2 ενώ οι αρχάριοι μπορούν να συνεχίσουν στο επίπεδο Α2 ή Β1 ανάλογα με την πρόοδό τους. Μαθητές που ολοκληρώνουν τη φοίτησή τους στα σχολεία της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο, εκτός του βαθμού (credit) που θα χρησιμοποιήσουν για την εισαγωγή τους στην τριτοβάθμια ε κ π α ί δ ε υ σ η, θ α λ ά β ο υ ν απο λυ τήριο Λυ κείου ενώ μπορούν να συμμετέχουν σε θερινά σχολεία στην Ελλάδα ή να συνεχίσουν την ελληνόγλωσση ε κ π α ί δ ε υ σ η ε π ι λ έ γ ο ν τ α ς μαθήματα ελληνικής γλώσσας (ή και αρχαίων ελληνικών) στα καναδικά πανεπιστήμια. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS Β) It is expected that the youth of Greek descent acquire a sense of their teenage identity, not only as it takes shape in Greece but also in the cultural mosaic of Canada and the diaspora, pointing out the similarities and differences of both circumstances. For the students of the second category (i.e. beginners, those who start learning Greek in the classroom from Gr. 9), the curriculum set forward by the Ministry of Education of the province of Ontario for the Credit/ International Languages program will be followed, with emphasis placed primarily on oral communication. As students learn the alphabet and basic language skills (which will be taught intensively for approximately 6-8 weeks), they will be encouraged to communicate in the classroom without giving too much emphasis on grammar or verbal mistakes. Slowly, they will be taught how to achieve functional communication objectives, adhere to the basic rules of grammar and syntax, enrich their vocabulary through specific units and understand various types of texts. With the completion of Grade 10, students that have participated in the A2 Ellinomatheia exams will be in a position to participate in the B1 examinations. For beginners, they can participate in the A1 exams aimed for teenagers. Grades 11 and 12 (LBHCU, LBHDU) Ellinomatheia Level: Β2 (for students who are continuing from Gr. 8) or Α2 (for those who have received the Teenager Α1 certification) At this level, students should be able to use the Greek language with relative ease in order to communicate with Greek native speakers. They should understand the basic ideas of various topics, specific and otherwise, communicating about more technical subjects that are related with their field or interests (art, athletics, studies, etc.). Students that find themselves at this level, having completed the full 12-year program of Greek language education should be able to speak with clarity and specificity, able to argue analytically and handle daily situations with flexibility and readiness. They will have the ability to interact within the norms of the Greek culture. Moreover, they will become familiar with basic characteristics of modern Greek culture, knowledgeable of habits and traditions, and understand main differences that exist at a socio-political level between people who speak Greek as their mother tongue and people coming from different cultural backgrounds. As in the previous level, there will be a variation between what is asked and expected from students who are beginners and students who have studied the language for years. Units and curriculum expectations are predetermined by the Ontario Ministry of Education. In regards to the Ellinomatheia levels, students who have participated in the B1 level during the previous years will be able to write the B2 exam at the end of Grade 12. Beginners can write the A2 or B1 exam, according to their advancement in the language skills. Students that complete their education at the schools of the Greek Community do not only receive a credit going towards their high school diploma and university application, but also will receive a High School Certificate from the GCT and the chance to participate in summer school programs in Greece. They can also continue their Greek language education (modern or ancient) by selecting related courses in Canadian universities. STAY CONNECTED! 1.
