J 1 JAH Lying on the ground, grandfather wanted to sleep. J 1 LRW Grandfather, when lying on the ground, wanted to sleep. J 1 LXD Grandfather, although lying on the ground, wanted to continue sleeping. J 1 NAD Grandfather, lying on the ground, wanted to sleep. J 1 PET The grandfather, lying on the earth, wanted to sleep. J 1 RKM The grandfather, lying on the ground, wanted to keep sleeping. J 2.. J 2 JAH But, having run toward him, Philip got him up. J 2 LRW But Philip, running up, woke him up. J 2 LXD But Phillip, after running to him, woke him up. J 2 NAD But Philip, having run toward him, woke him up. J 2 PET But Phillip woke him up. J 2 RKM But Phillip, having run up, woke him up.

J 3.. J 3 JAH He said, Why did you get me up, boy? And Philip said, A wolf is rushing upon the sheep. J 3 LRW He said, Why have you woken me up, boy? And Philip said, A wolf is rushing upon the sheep. J 3 LXD And he said, Why did you awaken me, boy? And Phillip said, A wolf is making an attack upon the sheep. J 3 NAD And he said, why did you wake me up, boy?. And Philip said: A wolf is rushing upon the sheep. J 3 PET But he said: Why did you wake me up? And Phillip said A wolf goes against the sheep. J 3 RKM He said, Why did you wake me up, boy? Phillip said A wolf is rushing upon the sheep. J 4.. J 4 JAH Grandfather said, Call Argos and ward off the wolf from the sheep! J 4 LRW And grandfather said, Call Argos and defend the sheep. J 4 LXD And Gramps said, Call Argos and ward the wolf off from the sheep! J 4 NAD But Grandfather said, Call Argos and ward off the wolf from the sheep. J 4 PET And the grandfather said: Call for Argos and ward off the wolf from the sheep. J 4 RKM The grandfather said, Call Argus, and ward the wolf off from the the sheep. J 5.. J 5 JAH So, having called Argos, Philip hurried up the hill. J 5 LRW So Philip called Argos and they hurried to the mountain. J 5 LXD So Phillip called Argos up the hill. J 5 NAD So Philip, having called Argos, hurried up the hill. I think (having seen an advanced copy of the collation) Rob s translation of two connected imperatives is the best, as it is often the way Greek would rephrase the previous sentence that had two directly stated commands. J 5 PET Then Phillip, having called Argos, went up on the hill. J 5 RKM So Phillip called Argus and hurried up the hill. J 6.. J 6 JAH So, Argos chased the wolf barking wildly, while Philip, having taken rocks, pelted. J 6 LRW And so with Argos barking fiercely they chased the wolf and Philip picked up stones and threw them at him. J 6 LXD So Argos, barking fiercely, on the one hand chased the wolf, and Phillip, on the other, after picking up stones, pelted him. J 6 NAD Argos, barking viciously, chased off the wolf, while Philip, having picked up stones, pelted it. J 6 PET Then Argos fiercely barking chased the wolf, while Phillip, having lifted stones, threw with them into it. J 6 RKM Then Argus, barking wildly, chased the wolf, and Philip having picked up stones, pelted it.

J 7.. J 7 JAH And soon Argos got the wolf with his teeth, and Philip killed it with his sword. J 7 LRW Soon Argos had the wolf in his teeth and Philip killed him with his knife. J 7 LXD And, after a little while, Argos got ahold of the wolf with his teeth, and Phillip killed him with his dagger. J 7 NAD Soon, Argos held the wolf with his teeth, and Philip killed it with his dagger. J 7 PET Soon, Argos with his teeth hold the wolf, and Phillip slew him with the knife. J 7 RKM And soon Argus held the wolf with his teeth, and Phillip killed it with his knife. J 8.. J 8 JAH Having arrived at the top of the hill, grandfather said, Well done. You bravely warded off the wolf from the sheep. J 8 LRW Grandfather arrived at the top of the mountain and said, Well done! You have warded off the wolf from the sheep bravely. J 8 LXD And Gramps, arriving at the hilltop, said, Well done! You warded the wolf off the sheep bravely. J 8 NAD Grandfather, arriving at the top of the hill, said, well done! You bravely warded off the wolf from the sheep. J 8 PET And the grandfather, having arrived on the top of the hill, said: Well done! You bravely protected the sheep from the wolf. J 8 RKM The grandfather, arriving at the top of the hill, said, bravo, you warded off the wolf bravely from the sheep. J 9.. J 9 JAH But now, you wait here, while I will return to the house. For I want to tell your mother what happened. J 9 LRW Now you stay here, and I will return home. I want to tell mother what has happened. J 9 LXD You wait there now, and I will go back home; for I want to tell your mother what happened. J 9 NAD But now, you stay here, and I will return home, as I want to tell your mother what happened. J 9 PET Now you remain here, and I go home because I want to tell the mother what happened here. J 9 RKM And now you stay here, and I will return home; for I want to tell your mother what happened.

J 10.. J 10 JAH Therefore, it seemed good to Philip to drive the sheep into the sheepfold. J 10 LRW It seemed a good idea to Philip to drive the sheep into the sheepfold. J 10 LXD So it seemed good to Phillip to drive the sheep into the fold. J 10 NAD Then, Philip thought it best to drive the sheep into the sheepfold. The connection conveyed by οὖν here is a bit awkward. Why didn t Philip stay like his grandfather told him to? Obviously he didn t want to have another run-in with a wolf or another wild animal, especially when he is inside their territory, so he decided on his own to go back and take the sheep back into the sheepfold. Yet it is not a connection of cause or reason, therefore as some of you wrote it, since it does not follow logically from the previous sentence. The best connection, in my opinion, is of simple temporal sequence, conveyed by then. J 10 PET Then Phillip drove the sheep into the sheepfold. J 10 RKM Therefore it seemed best to Philip to take the sheep into the sheepfold.
