On Wednesday 1 st of February 2012, was the commencement day of the Greek Ethnic School of St Anna. Many students have enrolled this year with a number of new students as well as familiar faces. Classes range from Prep to Year 12. Thus far, we have approximately 59 enrolments and enrolments are ongoing. We now have a dedicated Prep teacher due to demand. On the 1 st of February 2012, three aluminium bench seats were fitted for the use of our Greek School children and Sunday School students. The seats were ably fitted by Jeff Daikin and Tony Roussakis. Many thanks to Jeff and Tony. Also, on the 8 th of February 2012, a safety gate was fitted at the top of the stairs of the school. The monies for both these works were raised at a 2011 Southport Golf Club function which was organised by Sally Daiken, Toula Marendy and Chris Sakley. A big thank you goes to the organisers for donating the raffle monies raised from their event towards these desperately needed items. Many thanks. On the 2 nd of February, George Tsolakidis installed a new rear gate behind the kitchen. This took many hours of welding and fitting. George was kindly assisted on the day by Perry Arathimos. The gate was supplied by George Tsangari. Our deepest gratitude to all concerned. On the 20 th of February 2012 a donation of a commercial drinks fridge was made to our community by George Leoleos. A big thank you to George and his family for their generous donation. George with the assistance of Alex (Reg) Allen transported the fridge to the Greek Community Centre. admin@gocstanna.org PRESIDENTS REPORT Late last year we were very fortunate to receive a grant to purchase various items for the Greek Ethnic School of St Anna. We are very pleased to advise we received a favourable response from the Board of Trustees. We are all deeply privileged and thankful for these resources. Approval was given for 8 lap tops with anti spyware, basic Microsoft Word and Excel, a pocket WIFI with 12 month internet connection through Vodaphone, 2x 6 outlet surge boards. Approval was also given for a portable projector so this can be connected to a laptop, as well as various educational resources to assist in teaching Modern Greek. The last item approved was a CD Greek dictionary. Last week all items were purchased for the school (except the Greek CD dictionary). This marks a monumental progression for our school and moves our Greek School into the 21 st century. We also thank the anonymous donor who late last year donated the 1 st pocket WIFI with 12 month vodaphone connection. Our community wishes to extend our deepest condolences to Tina Nikiforides and her family on the loss of her beloved mother. More recently we extend our sympathy to Georgina Bissiotis and her family on the recent loss of her beloved husband Evangelos Bissiotis on the 3 rd of March 2012. May their memories be eternal. Page 2 LADIES AUXILIARY NEWS THE PHOS EXPO & OPEN DAY Both the Committee and Ladies Auxiliary assisted in our Community s first ever Open Day to showcase how our venues could be used and set up for functions is an excellent first step in boosting our hall bookings. THE PHOS Page 7 SPIRITUAL CORNER Είπε ο αββάς Ηλίας: «Είδα εγώ κάποιον να βάζει κάτω από τη µασχάλη ένα δοχείο κρασί και για να καταισχύνω τους δαίµονες ότι ήταν εντύπωση πλανερή (και όχι πραγµατική), λέω στον αδελφό: «Κάνε αγάπη και σήκωσέ το µου αυτό. Και µόλις σήκωσε το επανωφόρι του, αποδείχθηκε ότι δεν υπήρχε τίποτε κάτω από τη ασχάλη του. Αυτό το ανέφερα µε την έννοια ότι και µε τα ίδια σας τα µάτια αν δείτε κάτι ή ακούσετε κάτι, µην το ιστέψετε. Πολύ περισσότερο να ροσέχετε τους λογισµούς, τις σκέψεις και τα νοήµατα, γνωρίζοντας ότι οι δαίµονες τα σπέρνουν αυτά στην ψυχή για να τη διαστρέψουν, ώστε να σκέφτεται αυτά που την βλάπτουν και για να αποµακρύνουν τον νού από τις αµαρτίες µας και από τον Θεό». Ήλθε κάποτε ένα παιδί δαιµονισµένο, για να θεραπευθεί και επισκέφθηκε κάποιον αδελφό από ένα κοινόβιο της Αιγύπτου. Βγαίνει ο Γέροντας έξω και βλέπει τον αδελφό να αµαρτάνει µε το παιδί και δεν τον ήλεγξε λέγοντας: «Εφόσον ο Θεός που τον έπλασε τον βλέπει και δεν τον καίει, ποιος είµαι εγώ, για να τον ελέγξω;»
