Entrance Hymns Apolytikion Thou didst abolish death by Thy Cross; Thou didst open Paradise to the thief; Thou didst transform the myrrh-bearers' lamentation, and didst bid Thine Apostles to preach that Thou art risen, O Christ God, granting great mercy to the world. For The Memorials Keep Thy servants in remembrance, O Lord, since Thou art good; and do Thou forgive every sin in this life; for no man is without sin, except for Thee Who art able to grant rest even unto him who has departed hence. Saint Spyridon Father, God-bearer, Spyridon, you were proven a champion and Wonder Worker of the First Ecumenical Council. You spoke to the girl in the grave and turned the serpent to gold. And, when chanting your prayers, most sacred One, angels ministered with you. Glory to Him who glorified you; glory to Him who crowned you; glory to Him who, through you, works healing for all. Kontakion Your birth sanctified a Virgin's womb and properly blessed the hands of Symeon. Having now come and saved us O Christ our God, give peace to Your commonwealth in troubled times and strengthen those in authority, whom You love, as only the loving One ΤΗΕ EPISTLE St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:16-18; 7:1 The Lord will give strength to his people. Verse: Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the Lord honor and glory. BRETHREN, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL Sunday of the Canaanite The Gospel according to Matthew 15:21-28 At that time, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon." But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

Orthodoxy 101 The Orthodox Church Under the Turkish Yoke Wednesday, February 8th 7:00pm Please come to this informative presentation where Fr. Dimitri will talk about what the Orthodox Church was like under the Turkish occupation. Come hear about the struggles of keeping the Church together, and the incredible spiritual rebirth caused by the spilling of the blood of the Neomartyrs.

The blessing of our homes with the Holy Water of Epiphany is a meaningful way to begin the New Year. This beautiful tradition of our Orthodox Church allows us to start the year off in a most holy way by sanctifying our homes -the place where we spend most of our time. Please have an icon, a list of the living members of your family, a bowl as well as a spring of Basil or some other plant. We will bring the holy water, the cross and a copy of the service so you can follow along. The following days and times are available for house blessings. We ask that you please contact your neighbors to find a day and a block of time that satisfies all of you. For instance, you should contact your neighbors that live on your block, as well as other parishioners who live within a mile of your home, and schedule them either before or after your blessing. This will help us tremendously, especially since there are so many families, and we are still getting to know the neighborhoods around the Church. Please remember to allow at least 30 minutes for each house blessing. These dates are on a first come first serve basis. Contact the Church office to book your time. The available dates and times are as follows: Monday, January 30, 1100am-9:00pm Tuesday, January 31, 11:00am-6:00pm Wednesday, February 1, 8:00am-6:00pm Thursday, February 2, 11:00am-9:00pm Friday, February 3, 8:00am-6:00pm Saturday, February 4, 12:30am-9:00pm Monday, February 6, 8:00am-6:00pm Tuesday, February 7, 11:00am-5:15pm Wednesday, February 8, 12:45pm-6:00pm Call the Church office to Make your appointment!

KICKOFF PRESENTATION FOR THE "BURN THE MORTGAGE" CAMPAIGN WILL TAKE PLACE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING DIVINE LITURGY ON JANUARY 29th. Burn the Mortgage Campaign Saint Spyridon Cathedral is officially launching a "Burn the Mortgage Campaign" with the goal of freeing the Cathedral from all mortgage debt by 2020. The renovation of the Family Center has received accolades from our Parishioners and the Worcester Community as a whole resulting in a facility with which we can be proud. It has become a gathering place for our Youth, Ministries, and Parishioners. The cost of the Family Center renovation was $4.1M with $2.65M donated by our parishioners in the first fund drive. The remaining balance of $1.45M is held in a mortgage requiring a payment of $10,230 per month to the bank. This payment is significantly limiting the ability of the Cathedral to provide ministries to our Parish of 750 families. Note that the Endowment Fund principle cannot be used to make these payments as the donations were made on the condition that the funds donated could not be touched, only the interest portion. In the first fund drive, the Family Center Capital Campaign, only 30% of the Parish donated, we need everyone to participate to "Burn the Mortgage" by 2020. To do so we have developed three tiers for giving which will allow everyone in the Parish to donate. The Campaign's goal is to have 50 families donate $5,000 a year for three years; 100 families to donate $1,000 a year for three years; and all remaining families to donate $333 a year for three years. As of this mailing, we would like to thank the 12 families who have already pledged to donate $5,000 a year for three years! In early 2017 the "Angel Board" will be constructed naming and honoring all contributors to the Burn the Mortgage and Family Center Capital Campaigns. The Angel Board will be constructed on the wall outside the Tonna Room adjacent to the mosaic of Saint Spyridon. The Honorary Chair of the Campaign is Rev. Dr. Dimitrios Moraitis. Campaign Chairman is Demitrios Moschos. Dr. Matthew Panagiotu, Georgia Parafestas and Celeste Moschos are Co- Chairs for the $15,000 level; Dimitrios Vasiliadis, Nicholas Paleologos and Michael Dionis are Co- Chairs for the $3,000 level, the $1,000 level, and collection of prior pledges. Please help your Church to be free of debt, as our forefathers did when they built the Church and Community Center. Rev. Dr. Dimitrios Moraitis Demitrios Moschos Georgia Parafestas Dean Chairman Parish Council President & Co-Chair

ST. SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL BURN THE MORTGAGE CAMPAIGN Total Cost of Family Center Renovation $4,100,000.00 Total raised by our community during first fund drive $2,650,000.00 Remaining Loan Balance to be paid $1,450,000.00 3 Year Pledge Amount Annually Monthly $15,000 $5,000 $416 $3,000 $1,000 $83 $1,000 $333 $28 How Much Should I Give? This is a question every one of us must answer individually and with our heart. A goal of this magnitude cannot be realized without your generosity and unity. We are asking everyone from our parish and community to participate at any level. No donation is too small nor too large. Little by little we will achieve this daunting task and be rid of this financial burden. Please consider a tax deductible pledge today. Thank you and may God bless you. Proverbs 3.9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops.

Οι Τρεις Ιεράρχες The Three Great Fathers, St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory the Theologian and St. John the Chrysostom, contributed so much to the development of Greek Education that we consider them as fathers of the Greek Letters, and our Greek Schools celebrate their memory every year. Today, on Sunday, January 29th, at 10:00am, all students of our Greek School will attend church service which will include the ceremony of Artoclasia with their teachers and the Greek School PTA. Speeches will be presented by Maria Kapoukranidis and Eleni Xhupi. A Trisagion service along with the Artoclasia will honor, in loving memory, Mr. Nikolaos Tzoumbas and the dedicated teachers who predeceased him. May their memory be eternal. Also today, Sunday, January 29th, at 3:00pm, the Greek School Teachers Association of the Metropolis of Boston is sponsoring a program at the Maliotis Cultural Center, 50 Goddard Ave., Brookline, MA. Our school will once again participate. The Certificates of Ellinomathia will be distributed by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and the General Consul of Greece, Ifigeneia Kanara. Everyone is invited Thank you, The Greek School Personnel

JOY The Junior Orthodox Youth (JOY) group of our Cathedral is open to children between 3rd - 6 th grades. The group is based on four characteristics of Orthodox Christianity: Worship, Fellowship, Witness, and Service. JOY is an Orthodox Christian youth group that helps our children experience and explore the orthodox faith. Is a group, to enjoy fellowship, and to have FUN! The events are geared to not only bring the youth of Saint Spyridon together in a fun and educational way, but also to start to plant the seeds of giving back to the community through charity projects. We look forward to seeing your child in our youth group and helping them to grow closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. HOPE The Hellenic Orthodox Primary Education group (HOPE) is a ministry for children from Kindergarten through second grade. Some of the activities include meetings with Fr. Dimitri; faith-learning crafts and snack time; field trips; and seasonal activities. Parents with children in K-6 th grades are encouraged to become active in these ministries Please check our Weekly Bulletin for upcoming parish and regional HOPE & JOY events.
