HOLY EUCHARIST (HOLY COMMUNION) We remind everyone that the Blessed Bread (Antidoron) offered at the end of the Divine Liturgy may be received by all. Holy Communion is a Sacrament within the Orthodox Church and is only offered to Baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have prepared themselves to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As you come to receive, please follow the direction of the Parish Council Members, Ushers, and Acolytes. CHURCH GOSPEL AND SERMON ETIQUETTE It is disrespectful to arrive late for Liturgy and walk to a front pew while our clergy are reading the Gospel or delivering their sermons. It is also distracting to others who are attempting to concentrate on the message. If you must enter Liturgy late, you are kindly asked to take a seat at the very back until the Gospel or sermon are completed.
EPISTLE Timothy 1:15-17 T imothy, my son, the saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the foremost of sinners; but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display His perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in Him for eternal life. To the King of Ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory to the ages of ages. Amen. GOSPEL Luke 18:35-43 A t that time,as Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging; and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." And he cried, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me receive my sight." And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. WEDNESDAY SERVICES Please join us every Wednesday for our weekly evening service at 6:00 pm. Resurrectional Apolytikion The stone had been secured with a seal by the Judeans, and a guard of soldiers was watching Your immaculate body. You rose on the third day, O Lord and Savior, granting life unto the world. And therefore the powers of heaven cried to You, O Life-giver: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ; glory to Your kingdom; glory to Your dispensation, only One who loves mankind. For the Parish Church As rule of the faith and picture of gentleness, and teacher of temperance you were exhibited to your flock, by the truth of the evidence, Thus you acquired the lofty through humility, abundance through poverty. Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ our God, that our souls may be saved. Kontakion You sanctified the virginal womb by Your birth, O Lord, and blessed the hands of Symeon fittingly, O Christ God; and even now You came and saved us. Now, give peace to our Nation in time of war, and empower our Leaders, so loved by You, the only one who loves humanity. SAINT XENI Saint Xenia of Rome, in the world Eusebia, was the only daughter of an eminent Roman senator. From her youth she loved God, and wished to avoid the marriage arranged for her. She secretly left her parental home with two servants devoted to her, and set sail upon a ship. Through the Providence of God she met the head of the monastery of the holy Apostle Andrew in a town of Caria (Asia Minor). She besought him to take her and her companions with him. She also changed her name, calling herself Xenia. She bought land, built a church dedicated to St Stephen, and founded a woman s monastery. Soon after this, Bishop Paul of Milassa made Xenia a deaconess. The saint helped everyone: for the destitute, she was a benefactress; for the grief-stricken, a comforter; for sinners, a guide to repentance. She possessed a deep humility, accounting herself the worst and most sinful of all. In her ascetic deeds she was guided by the counsels of the Palestinian ascetic, St Euthymius. The sublime life of St Xenia drew many souls to Christ. The holy virgin died in 450 while she was praying. During her funeral, a luminous wreath of stars surrounding a radiant cross appeared over the monastery in the heavens. This sign accompanied the body of the saint when it was carried into the city, and remained until the saint s burial. REMOVAL OF THE RELICS OF JOHN CHRYSOSTOM This event took place in 438, when St Theodosius the Younger had been Emperor for 30 years; he was the son of Arcadius and Eudoxia, who had exiled Saint John. The Archbishop of Constantinople was Proclus, who had been the Saint's disciple.

If we have the faith to dive in head-first. Our Epiphany celebration draws attention from around the world. But at the root of this holy day is a baptism. In baptism, submergence in water represents death to the old ways of sin, and what follows is a resurrection a rebirth to a new life in Christ. While Orthodox Christians are baptized only once, as a community we commemorate Christ s baptism every year. What better time to renew your life in Christ? What better way than through stewardship? We are stewards of the first catch.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT This month s office volunteer spotlight* is on Pauline Phillips. Known for being an active fundraiser, with projects such as the Dueling Pianos concerts and the ornaments series under her belt, Pauline has also been donating her time at our parish office for over a year. Her ability to work independently and her strong attention to detail have made her an ideal archivist; during any given shift, Pauline can be found going through old St Nicholas boxes, sorting through paperwork and helping us determine what is important to keep and what is no longer necessary. Finally, her natural affinity to problem-solving leads to new projects, which contributes to keeping us fresh. Pauline, we thank you for all you do! *in alphabetical order LEVENDIA NABS PLATINUM AT HDF The St. Nicholas Dance Ministry Board would like to thank everyone who made it possible for our dancers to participate in the 2016 Hellenic Dance Festival in Orlando this past weekend. Many thanks to Fr. James Rousakis, Fr. Sampson Kasapakis, the Parish Council, Mr. Nikitas Manias, and our church community for helping to get us there. Forty dance groups from around the Metropolis of Atlanta participated in the annual event and Tarpon Springs was very well represented by our outstanding young people who worked extremely hard to compete. It is with great honor that we announce our places: Levendia, under the direction of Anna Athanasatos & Rania Samartzis, received two awards - one for "Best Folk Expression" as well as the highest "Platinum Award" in the Young Adults category. Parea, under the direction of Maria Kouskoutis & Kiki Kontodiakos, received the "Silver Award" in the Advanced Junior category.
