O.H.A.A. Announcements~ Ανακοινώσεις Youth Outdoor Soccer - Registration OHAA is celebrating its 14th season of Youth Soccer. The program has enjoyed a large participation from the Hellenic Community and its friends and continues to expand. OHAA Early registration fees for Development (U4 to U8) apply to April 30th. Για το Σαββατοκύριακο θα διοργανωθούν διάφορες εκδηλώσεις στις οποίες μπορούν να συμμετάσχουν όλα τα μέλη της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας. Το Σάββατο, 20 Μαΐου, 7 μ.μ. θα πραγματοποιηθεί η «Βραδιά της Πλάκας». Εισιτήρια: 75 δολάρια για ενήλικες και 60 δολάρια για τα μέλη των Θεραπαινίδων της Αθηνάς και των Υιών του Περικλή και για νέους κάτω των 18 ετών. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed." And immediately he rose. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. Now there was at Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. In those days she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him entreating him, "Please come to us without delay." So Peter rose and went with them. And when he had come, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them. Great Vespers of the Ascension in Brockville May 24 th The Great Vespers of the Ascension will be celebrated at the Greek Orthodox Church of Ascension (Analipsis) in Brockville, on Wednesday, May 24 th at 5:00 p.m. The Senior Citizens Association along with the Philoptochos Society have chartered a bus for this occasion, leaving from the Church parking lot at 3:30 p.m., returning by 9:00 p.m. Please arrive by 3:00 p.m. and reserve your seats early. Announcements Philoptochos Mother's Day Brunch - May 14th The Ladies of Philoptochos are hosting a special Mother's Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14th at our Banquet Centre. They hope that everyone can attend and invite family, friends and neighbours to celebrate our mothers and indeed all the special ladies in our lives together. AHEPA Family 82 nd Annual District Convention - May 19 th -21st The Ottawa AHEPA Family is hosting the 82 nd Annual District Convention during the weekend of May19-22, 2017 at the Ottawa Convention and Event Centre located on 200 Coventry Road. During the weekend we will be hosting different events that will be open to the Greek community. On Saturday, May 20 th we will be hosting a fun filled Plaka Dinner Dance starting at 7:00 p.m. and all are welcome. Tickets are $75 for adults and $60 for MOA/ SOP and youth under 18. On Sunday, May 21 st we will be having our annual AHEPA Day at Church followed by an Awards Ceremony with a light lunch for $25 per person at the Hellenic Banquet Centre. The Gospel Reading: St. John 5:1-15 At that time, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda which has five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water; whoever stepped in first after the troubling of the water was healed of whatever disease he had. One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?" The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me." ΑΝΤΙΜΕΤΩΠΙΖΟΝΤΑΣ ΤΙΣ ΣΥΝΕΠΕΙΕΣ Ένας καλός τρόπος για να αξιολογήσει κανείς τις συνέπειες των πράξεών του είναι να κάνει την εξής ερώτηση μετά από κάθε πράξη του: "Ποιες οι συνέπειες; Τι το σπουδαίο;" Προσεύχομαι. ΚΑΙ ΛΟΙΠΟΝ, ΤΙ ΤΟ ΣΠΟΥΔΑΙΟ;" To σπουδαίο είναι ότι μίλησα με τον Θεό που με αγαπά, που θα με καθοδηγήσει, θα μου δώσει δύναμη και θα απαντήσει στις προσευχές μου ίσως όχι όπως εγώ επιθυμώ αλλά όπως Εκείνος θεωρεί ότι είναι καλύτερο για μένα. Προσεύχομαι. ΚΑΙ ΛΟΙΠΟΝ; Λοιπόν, ο Θεός με ακούει! Ο Θεός μου απαντά! Διαβάζω, κάθε μέρα, ένα κεφάλαιο από την Αγία Γραφή. ΚΑΙ ΤΙ ΤΟ ΣΠΟΥΔΑΙΟ; Το σπουδαίο είναι ότι διαβάζω το γράμμα που μου έστειλε ο Θεός. Τον αφήνω να μου μιλήσει, να με καθοδηγήσει και να με φωτίσει. Κάθε Κυριακή παρακολουθώ τη θεία λειτουργία. ΚΑΙ ΤΙ ΤΟ ΣΠΟΥΔΑΙΟ; Το σπουδαίο είναι ότι έρχομαι κοντά στο Χριστό. Τον αφήνω να μου μιλήσει μέσω των Ευαγγελικών περικοπών και του κηρύγματος. Του ζητώ συγχώρεση σαν το ληστή που σταυρώθηκε δίπλα Του. Παίρνω μέρος στο Μυστικό Δείπνο, λαμβάνω το πολύτιμο σώμα και αίμα Του και πληρούμαι Πνεύματος Αγίου. Ζούμε και πεθαίνουμε. ΚΑΙ ΥΣΤΕΡΑ; Ύστερα, λέει ο Ιησούς, είναι ο παράδεισος ή η κόλαση γι' αυτό προσέχετε πώς ζείτε. Η ζωή είναι θέμα σοβαρό. Μία ημέρα όλοι θα σταθούμε μπροστά από τον Θεό "Πάντες γαρ παραστησόμεθα τω βήματι του Θεού" (Προς Ρωμαίους 14:10). Αργά ή γρήγορα, λέει ο Robert Louis Stevenson "όλοι θα καθήσουμε στην τράπεζα των συνεπειών". Διάλεξα να ζω για τον Χριστό. ΚΑΙ ΛΟΙΠΟΝ, ΠΟΙΕΣ ΟΙ ΣΥΝΕΠΕΙΕΣ; Λοιπόν, μία ημέρα που θα έλθει το τέλος της ζωής μου αντί να καταριέμαι το σκοτάδι θα μπορώ να πω κι εγώ σαν τον Απόστολο Παύλο: "Ο καιρός της αναλύσεώς μου εφέστηκεν. Τον καλόν αγώνα ηγώνισμαι, τον δρόμον τετέλεκα, την πίστιν τετήρηκα. Λοιπόν απόκειταί μοι ο της δικαιοσύνης στέφανος, ον αποδώσει μοι ο Κύριος εν εκείνη τη ημέρα, ο δίκαιος κριτής, ου μόνον δε εμοί αλλά και πάσι τοις ηγαπηκόσι την επιφάνειαν αυτού". (Προς Τιμόθεον Β! Επιστολή, Κεφάλαιο 4: 6-8) FACING THE CONSEQUENCES A good way to ponder the consequences of what we do is to ask the question, Then what? I pray, THEN WHAT? Then, I am talking with God, who will guide and strengthen me, who loves me and will answer my prayer, perhaps not my way but always in a way that will be best for me. I pray, THEN WHAT? Then God hears! Then God answers! I read a chapter from the Holy Bible every day, THEN WHAT? I am reading God s personal letter to me. I am letting God speak to me. I am allowing Him to give me His guidance, His wisdom, His light for my life. I participate in the divine liturgy every Sunday, THEN WHAT? Then, I come to Christ. I let Him speak to me through the Gospel and the sermon. I stand in His presence. I ask His forgiveness as did the dying thief. I am present at the Last Supper. I receive His precious body and blood. I am filled with the Holy Spirit. We live and we die, THEN WHAT? Then, says Jesus, comes either heaven or hell. It s as if He were telling us: Be careful how you live. Ahead of you is heaven but ahead of you also is hell. Life is serious business. One day We shall all stand before the judgment seat of God to give account of ourselves to God (Rom 14:10). Sooner or later, said Robert Louis Stevenson, everybody sits down to a banquet of consequences. I choose to live for Christ, THEN WHAT? Then one day I shall come to the end of my life and instead of cursing the darkness I shall be able to say with St. Paul, The time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
