Apolytikion for the Archangel Michael Ton ouranion stration ( Ο Chief Commander of the heavenly armies ) Ο Chief Commander of the heavenly armies, * we the unworthy ones entreat you in earnest, * that you might with your supplications fortify us, * guarding us who run to you and beneath the protection * of the pinions of your immaterial glory, * and who with fervor shout: Deliver us, * from every danger, as Captain of the hosts on high. Stewardship Update September 6, 2015 On September 1 st we marked the start the new Ecclesiastical year. Summer is over, kids are back to school and people are returning from their vacations. As we begin the new year, now is a most appropriate time to make sure we return to church (for those we haven t seen during the summer months). Also, as we gear up for the very busy fall, it is important to make sure we keep God in our schedules -- not just on holy days and Sundays, but every day of the week Orthodox Christian Stewardship is our way of thanking God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us. To be considered good stewards of our parish and the faith, we must give back in gratitude to Him by giving of our time, talent and treasure. Our Parish and His Ministries need all three from each of us! What are you personally doing to show your gratitude to Him for your own blessings? Are you truly giving back to Him to support His ministries here on Earth? For those of us with children, we also need to make sure they become active in the faith as well and learn that our faith is even more important than fall sports!! Please register your children for Sunday school if you have not already done so. SAVE THE DATE! St. Sophia s Feast Day Dinner Dance is on Saturday, October 10, 2015 MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW! We would like to thank everyone who has supported our parish thus far in 2015 with your Time, Talent and Treasure. We continue to welcome new families to our parish; it is great to see so many new faces become involved with the spiritual life of our community! If you have not yet become a steward for 2015, there is still time! Stewardship forms are available at the Pangari or by calling the Parish office at 610-650-8960. God Bless you! Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. BRETHREN, it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us; he has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. But I call God to witness against me - it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith. For I made up my mind not to make you another painful visit. For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. For I wrote you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you. New Stewards 23 13
GOSPEL READING The Reading is from the Gospel of Matthew 22:2-14 The Lord said this parable, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.' But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.' And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.' For many are called, but few are chosen." Church Beautification Update September 6, 2015 As you can see, our iconographer, Dr. George Kordis, and his team arrived this past Wednesday night and have been hard at work ever since. We have received sponsorships for the Holy Ascension of Christ icon, which will be painted over the altar area. We appreciate the support of our many donors, including the most recent anonymous donor in support of this new beautification project. In addition, Dr. Kordis and his team of world renowned artists will be painting in the Narthex, including the Donor Wall. They will also be varnishing and sealing all of the icons in the iconastasion and lower walls to protect them from damage. Please be sure to welcome Dr. Kordis and his team when you see them around the church! Many sponsorships are still available for both iconography and the furnishings. Please check out the exhibit next door in the Fr. John A. Limberakis Cultural Center. A draft of the names that will be listed on the donor plaque has been posted in the Fr. John A. Limberakis Cultural Center. Please double check your name and listing to make sure it is accurate. If you have questions or concerns, please see any Parish Council member. PRAYERS BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION (The Communion Prayers are recited silently by those prepared to receive the Holy Mysteries) I believe and confess, Lord, that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. I also believe that this is truly Your pure Body and that this is truly Your precious Blood. Therefore, I pray to You, have mercy upon me, and forgive my transgressions, voluntary and involuntary, in word and deed, known and unknown. And make me worthy without condemnation to partake of Your pure Mysteries for the forgiveness of sins and for life eternal. Amen. How shall I, who am unworthy, enter into the splendor of Your saints? If I dare to enter into the bridal chamber, my clothing will accuse me, since it is not a wedding garment; and being bound up, I shall be cast out by the angels. In Your love, Lord, cleanse my soul and save me. Loving Master, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, let not these Holy Gifts be to my condemnation because of my unworthiness, but for the cleansing and sanctification of soul and body and the pledge of the future life and kingdom. It is good for me to cling to God and to place in Him the hope of my salvation. Receive me today, Son of God, as a partaker of Your mystical Supper. I will not reveal Your mystery to Your adversaries. Nor will I give You a kiss as did Judas. But as the thief I confess to You: Lord, remember me in Your kingdom. PRAYER AFTER RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION We thank You, loving Master, benefactor of our souls, that again today You have counted us worthy of Your heavenly and immortal Mysteries. Set us a straight path; make us all firm in reverence of You; keep watch over our lives; safeguard our movements; through the prayers and intercession of the glorious Theotokos and ever-virgin, Mary and of all Your saints. Amen.
