Welcome to Saint Nicholas on this Sunday, September 3, 2017 Today we commemorate: 13th Sunday of Matthew Anthimus, Bishop of Nicomedea Holy Father Theoctistus and his fellow struggler Euthymius the Great Polydorus the Martyr of New Ephesus EPISTLE READING St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 16:13-24 Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 103.24,1 O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom. Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul. The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 16:13-24 Brethren, be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. Now, brethren, you know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints; I urge you to be subject to such men and to every fellow worker and laborer. I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicos, because they have made up for your absence; for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such men. The churches of Asia send greetings. Aquila and Prisca, together with the church in their house, send you hearty greetings in the Lord. All the brethren send greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. If any one has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.

GOSPEL READING The Gospel According to Matthew 21:33-42 The Lord said this parable, "There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit; and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. Afterward he sent his son to them, saying 'They will respect my son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?'"

λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ιησοῦς οὐδέποτε ἀνέγνωτε ἐν ταῖς γραφαῖς, λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη, καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν; Welcome If this is your first time to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, we welcome you and look forward to meeting you. May God bless your time with us as we worship God The Father, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. If you are not familiar with Orthodox worship, please ask one of our ushers. If you are in need of spiritual assistance or would like to know how to become an Orthodox Christian, please speak to Father Andrew.

Response to Hurricane Harvey 2017 D A T E : August 29, 2017 C A T E G O R Y : M E T R O P O L I T A N ' S M E S S A G E S A U T H O R : H I S E M I N E N C E M E T R O P O L I T A N G E R A S I M O S His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos Beheading of the Holy and Glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John Dearly Beloved in the Lord, Again we pray for the preservation of this holy Church and every city and land, from the wrath of God, pestilence, famine, earthquake, flood, fire and sudden death, and that our God Who loves mankind will be merciful, gracious and favorable towards us We have all been apprised of the devastation brought about by Hurricane Harvey which has caused tremendous damage and displaced thousands of people. The effects of the storm are increasing with ongoing rain and new threats of flooding. Images of people being rescued from rooftops, cars submerged in water, and boats floating through the town to take people to safety give us just a glimpse into the disrupted lives of the people in the path of this deadly storm. It will be several weeks, if not months, before the full effects of Hurricane Harvey are determined. Loss of life, loss of homes, and loss of livelihood are just some of what is facing the residents of the Houston area. People have fled the devastation with very few of their belongings but they will have many needs for the basic necessities of life. It is our sacred obligation to offer our support to the residents of the greater Houston area and all those who are in the path of Hurricane Harvey. I encourage each parish in the Metropolis of San Francisco to pray for all those who are affected by the hurricane, and also pass a special tray on Sunday, September 3, 2017 to collect funds to assist those in need. All contributions collected for this purpose should be directed to: International Orthodox Christian Charities 110 West Road, Suite 360 Baltimore, MD 21204 Donations for Hurricane Harvey relief can also be made directly to IOCC on their website. Let us beseech our heavenly Father to preserve us from every probable calamity and, through God s love, let us find strength and comfort to support those suffering from this devastation. With Love in Christ, + G E R A S I M O S Metropolitan of San Francisco
