Epistle Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 2. Psalm 27.9,1 O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20 Brethren, knowing that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Gospel Sunday after Holy Cross The Gospel According to Mark 8:34-38; 9:1The Lord said: "If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? For what can a man give in return for his life? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power." TRISAGO Emmanuel, Emmanuel & Konstantina May their memory be eternal Welcome to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Cleveland We are delighted to welcome you to our parish family this morning! If you are visiting, please fill out a "Visitor Information Card," located in the Narthex, and give it to a Parish Council member at the candle stand in the Narthex. If you are an Orthodox Christian new to the area, or you would like to know more about becoming an Orthodox Christian, please introduce yourself to Father Dean who would be most happy to meet with you and discuss membership in our community. FOR OUR GUESTS WHO ARE NOT ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS: Church for the first time, please be aware that Holy Communion is a sign of unity of faith which is only offered to Baptized or Chrismated Orthodox Christians. All present are welcome, however, to partake of the antidoro (or blessed bread) which is distributed at the end of the service. Those interested in learning more about the Orthodox Christian faith, please feel free to see Father after the service. 2

Save, O save, O Lord your people, and bless your inheritance, granting victory to their rulers, over the enemy; and guarding your commonwealth by the might of you cross. A host of Angels descended upon your tomb, and those guarding it fell down mortified; and in the tomb stood Mary, bewildered and searching for your undefiled Body. You bounded up Hades, never been hurt by him; you met with the Virgin, and granted life to her. O Lord who rose from the dead, glory to you. To-day is the crown of our Salvation and the manifestation of the Eternal Mystery. The Son of God becometh the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel announceth the good tidings of grace. Wherefore let us also with him cry to the Mother of God: Hail! Thou that art full of grace; the Lord is with thee. You who were lifted on the Cross voluntarily, on your new commonwealth that bears your name, do you bestow your mercies, O Crist our God; gladden in your mighty strength, our faithful Rulers, granting to them victories, against all the enemies, and may your help in battle be for them: a weapon of peace and banner invincible. The Greek School Board of Education currently has open vacancies for voting members. We are looking for both existing families who attend our Greek School and any other interested parishioner who has a passion for preserving the language of our motherland. The purpose of our Greek School is to systematically and methodically teach the Greek language so that our children are able to read, write, understand, and speak Greek. The affairs of the Greek School is managed by a Board of Education. Board members hold office for a two year term. Given the existing vacancies, the president of the BOE is calling for interested parties at this current time rather than waiting for the annual meeting. As the school year begins, we hope to fill all spots so that the Board can begin to create its strategic goals for our Greek School. If you are interested, please contact Julie Tsirambidis via email at julie.tsirambidis@gmail.com or mobile 216.276.0530. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you! Dear Parents and Community, As principal of Greek School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another year in Annunciation. We are all excited to have our students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected and a part of our community. At Georgia Pappas' School, we have great teachers who spend hours planning and creating classroom activities to engage our students in learning. We also set goals for our children for growth and improvement. We believe that all students should graduate from our Greek School having understood Greek Culture and be able to write in Greek and speak Greek. This year we will have Greek workshops and seminars that will help the kids ameliorate their skills. We will also have a ten-minute break during classes so the pupils can go to the bathroom and after every lesson, our teachers will send either a text message or an email to the parents informing them what we taught in the classroom and our homework. We will also have a hanging board at our hallway with the news of Greek School and update it once a month. I am honored to serve as the principal of Georgia Pappas Greek School. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community, where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. Please feel free to contact me at (440)317-3193 or at evakoukouras@gmail.com. Once again, welcome back! Let's make it another great year in Annunciation together. A JOURNEY TO FULLNESS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FULLNESS OF THE ORIGINAL CHRISTIAN FAITH We are all on a journey. There are times during the journey in which we know precisely where we d like to go. We know the roadside attractions, the highway markers and the miles before we reach that destination. But there are times in which the destination seems unclear. We wander from place to place, we look at maps for inspiration, for illumination, for some clue about what lies ahead. In the Orthodox tradition, we speak about our lives of faith in this way, referring to our path of Christianity as a journey. Our destination is clear, to be in communion with God. We navigate this log road with prayer, practice and community. In building this Orthodox faith, we find the continuity and the care we require to continue along the journey no matter what greets us on the road. Beginning on September 21st we will begin an introduction to the Orthodox faith and the life of the Church. There are 16 videos followed by group discussions that will help you understand what the Eastern Orthodox Church is, and why it holds an attraction for us. Please join us in our newly remodeled hall on Thursday evenings beginning on Sept. 21st thru Nov. 9th for 8 sessions of videos and discussions. May the eternal light of God s glory shine on you while you study these things and help you on your journey toward the "goal of your faith, the salvation of your soul. (1 Peter 1:9) Fr. Dean and Michael Manak 10
Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea until we have someone to forgive. What is Christian Stewardship? Stewardship is caring for the needs of others. Stewardship is offering one s self to God as He offered Himself to us. Stewardship is what a person does after saying I believe as proof of that belief. office@annunciationcleveland.net Dear Friends of the Community, In an effort to defray the cost of publishing our Weekly Bulletin, & V ision, the Parish Council would like to invite anyone who wishes to support the Community to offer a small donation of $250.00 for a business card sized ad which will be placed on the back inside pages of each publication for the calendar year, 2017. We generally publish a Weekly Bulletin as well as a Quarterly Newsletter, and with this program, hope to cut our publication cost in half by gathering 36 ads which will take up the last four pages of the Vision & Bulletin. If you are interested in this program, please send a business card that we will reproduce. Please also enclose a check made out to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church for $250.00.
