GOYA VOLLEYBALL Although Holy Trinity youth soccer will not begin until March, GOYA volleyball began on Friday, January 27, with an indoor practice session. The volleyball gatherings, scheduled in the gymnasium on Friday evenings at 6:00 pm, are a fun, no-pressure opportunity to learn to play the game, as well as to get to know each other better. It is for players of all levels - from beginners to intermediate. Coach Kalli Grass and GOYA Advisor Donna Venturatos encourage GOYANS to give it a try or just come hang out, if you really do not wish to play! They also hope to engage GOYA parents in preparing a light meal of fasting foods following some of the Friday night practices. The informal gatherings promise to be fun for all! AUGHTERS OF PENELOPE MEETING - FEBRUARY 12 All members are encouraged to attend a special Daughters of Penelope meeting on Sunday, February 12, at 12:00 pm, following church services. The Chapter, founded on February 26, 1937, will celebrate its 80th birthday! The Daughters will also welcome District Governor Gretchen Holtsinger from Houston, Texas, for her visitation to the New Orleans Chapter. TODAY IS HEART HEALTH SUNDAY Wearing red today is a show of support for the prevention of heart disease and stroke. Eighty percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. SELF DEFENSE CLASS THIS SATURDAY The Safety and Security Committee has set up a free SELF DEFENSE TACTICS AND TIPS CLASS at the Hellenic Cultural Center on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2017, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm for those interested in learning self defense methods and ways to be better prepared in Personal Safety and Protection methods. All adult and student parishioners 16 years of age or older are welcome to attend this class. No equipment is needed; just wear comfortable casual clothing. Message from Father George 2017 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN As we now have entered the second month of this year, it is important to reflect on our Christian responsibility to our Spiritual Home: making our financial offering to the Cathedral Community. Father Anthony M. Coniaris from Minneapolis shared the following story about giving that helps to put this concept into a proper perspective for us. One day, a person complained to his priest that the Church and Christianity is one continual give, give, give. To which the priest replied, Thank you very much for the finest definition of Christianity I have ever heard. You re right, Christianity is all about a constant give, give, give. God giving His only Son to the world to show His unconditional love. His Son Jesus giving His life on the cross to forgive our sins and destroy death. Then, our Lord s disciples giving all they had to make sure God s Good News of love was preached to all people everywhere. They not only gave away their homes and businesses but even gave up their lives. It is by offering our blessings back to God that He will be able to continue His forgiving, healing, liberating, empowering, transfiguring, loving ministry through the Church. For God, infinite though He be, has chosen to work through us, through our gifts, to continue His saving work in the world today. Please take the time to review your past giving to the Ministries of the Cathedral and pay close attention to the level of giving that you are offering to Christ. If the annual amount is equal to the amount that you gave last year, or five years ago, or ten years ago, we respectfully recommend your raising the commitment. The needs of the Cathedral Community are higher than they were in 2007 and certainly higher than they were in 1997. Please prayerfully consider raising your pledge this year as you meditate on the passage quoted above from Father Anthony.

Project Autism A fundraiser because Philoptochos ardently supports families and... The Family Camp for Special Needs Children Elpis Chapter is supporting the Metropolis of Atlanta s annual camp for autistic children and their families in cooperation with the author of this recently published book provided by a member of the Holy Trinity Cathedral family. A book signing will be held in the Hellenic Cultural Center following Divine Liturgy on Sunday, February 19. Suggested donations of $20 (paperback) and $35 (hard cover) would be appreciated as ALL proceeds from this fundraiser will be forwarded for the support of this worthwhile philanthropic activity.
