Danish Design: Το Α.Π.Λ.Ο.
All designers have an influence on the future of the earth through their work, and they can all work towards more sustainable solutions and to optimize the products, services or environments they work with within the limitations of the task at hand Fundamentally speaking, sustainable design solutions are about making informed choices where concerns for the planet carry equal weight to concerns for the user and the bottom line of the client for whom the design is developed. Hans Wegner master of Danish chair design "Many foreigners have asked me how we made the Danish style. And I've answered that it...was rather a continuous process of purification, and for me of simplification, to cut down to the simplest possible elements of four legs, a seat and combined top rail and arm rest." "The chair does not exist. The good chair is a task one is never completely done with." "A chair is to have no backside. It should be beautiful from all sides and angles."

Holger Nielsen Vipp is founded in 1939 by Holger Nielsen. Born in 1915 in the small Danish town of Randers, Holger trains as a metal spinner. Holger Nielsen makes the leap into business at the age of only 17 and almost by coincidence. It all begins one spring Sunday in May 1931 when he makes his usual visit to the local stadium to support his favorite football team. Fate has it that his ticket is drawn in a raffle, and he wins a car. Holger loves cars, but as he has no driver's license, he decides to sell the car and invest the money in a metal turning lathe. This marks the birth of Holger Nielsen's metal factory where, a few years later, he produces the very product that will go on to bring him fame: the Vipp pedal bin.
Piet Hein The rational idealist Piet Hein was neither an architect nor a furniture designer - but a philosopher, poet, mathematician etc. He created the Superellipse as a new oval shape for the Sergel's Square in Stockholm. In cooperation with the Swedish designer, Bruno Mathsson, he later used the shape for the Superellipse Table Series which Fritz Hansen put in production in 1968. Sergels torg, Stockholm
PH LAMP Poul Henningsen from 1926 The PH-lamps are a series of light fixtures designed by Danish designer and writer Poul Henningsen from 1926 and onwards. [1] The lamp is designed with multiple concentric shades to eliminate visual glare, only emitting reflected light, obscuring the light source [2]. The lamps are still in production today. Danish author, architect and critic, was one of the leading figures of the cultural life of Denmark between the World Wars. In Denmark, he is often referred to as PH. PH 3/2 LAMP PH WALL LAMP

KINGO HOUSES Designer: Jorn Utzon The Kingo Houses formed a prototype for Utzon's second courtyard housing project, the Fredensborg Houses, one of the most perfect 20th century brickbuilt housing developments. [1] They have been called the finest Scandinavian example of humane housing. [5]

Poul Volther Poul M. Volther (1923-2001) belonged to a generation of architects with solid roots in the very best of craft. As an exponent to functionalism he was against fads and aesthetic smartness and he loved the simple manufacture of fine materials. Poul M. Volther was a trained cabinet-maker and later he graduated from The School of Arts and Crafts. As a teacher at The Danish School of Art and Design he has influenced hundreds of young designers' sense of craft quality. The Corona chair is without comparison his most famous design. Robert Dudley Best Robert Dudley Best studied industrial and interior design in Düsseldorf and Paris. He was strongly influenced by the Bauhaus movement, which was taking Europe by storm with its stringent lines and clean style. His immersion in the creative surroundings inspired Robert Dudley so much that, during his studies in 1928-29, he designed the lamp collection which subsequently became synonymous with his name. Best wanted the collection to symbolise the spirit of the times, appealing to avant garde architects and setting the agenda for lamp design. After an article in the renowned Architects Journal, the English architectural community embraced the lamp, and declared it the first example of a Bauhaus- inspired product in the UK. Robert Dudley Best continued to develop the collection until the late 1930s. Today, ten of his lamps are still in production. Bestlite BL1 Table Lamp
Eero Aarnio The Finnish designer Eero Aarnio (b.1932) is one of the great innovators of modern furniture design. In the 1960s, Eero Aarnio began experimenting with plastics, vivid colors and organic forms, breaking away from traditional design conventions. His now iconic plastic creations include the Ball (1963), the Pastil (1968), and the Bubble (1968) chairs which echo the pop culture and spirit of their time. Many of Aarnio's works are included in the world's most prestigious museums, including Victoria and Albert Museum in London, MoMA in New York and Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
