Also, this year the Church School staff is stressing the importance of all children attending the full pageant rehearsals to become familiar with THE SONGS, WHERE TO STAND, and THE OVERALL PROGRAM. The schedule this year is as follows: Sunday, November 6 begin rehearsing songs Sunday, December 4 select names for primary roles and readers Sunday, December 11 full rehearsal during Sunday Church School Saturday, December 17 full rehearsal immediately following Communion Breakfast If you have any questions, please contact Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com.

GOYA THANKSGIVING RETREAT GOYA has a great (and very short) retreat planned November 18 and 19, the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving holidays. Members are strongly encouraged not only to attend the retreat in Mobile, Alabama, but also to take this opportunity to meet fellow GOYANs from the surround Gulf Coast communities. PHILOPTOCHOS SAINTS COSMOS AND DAMIAN RECEPTION Today is Philoptochos Sunday, a day when Philoptochos chapters around the United States host a special reception in honor of their patron saints Cosmas and Damian. Cosmas and Damian were unmercenaries and miracleworkers. They were brothers both in the flesh and in the spirit, born somewhere in Asia Minor of a pagan father and a Christian mother. After their father s death, their mother Theodota devoted all her time and effort to educating her sons and raising them as true Christians. They were learned in the art of medicine and ministered to the sick without payment. An Artoclasia service will be held for the living and deceased Philoptochos members of the Holy Trinity community. Also, a second tray will be passed by Philoptochos members for the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Your support is sincerely appreciated. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Philoptochos invites all senior citizens in the community to attend the Senior Citizens luncheons. Give a friend a call to remind them about the event. Offer a ride to a senior, who may not have transportation. A wonderful turkey dinner is planned for Thursday, November 10, and a spectacular Christmas dinner will be served on Tuesday, December 6, St. Nicholas' Day. Many thanks are extended to Bella and Ray Bouton and Pauline Caridas, who are sponsoring the Thanksgiving feast in memory of their sister Mary Castrinos Giannopoulos. Make plans to attend and enjoy a delicious lunch and have fun with bingo. THANKSGIVING PROJECT The Thanksgiving project continues today. Each year Philoptochos asks for your support to provide a Thanksgiving Basket filled with gift cards and goodies for the needy families within the community. Please stop by the table set up in the Coffee Room today. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. Today s Epistle reading provides us an account of the change that took place in the life of Saint Paul, who was formerly known as Saul. This passage from his epistle to the Galatians recalls his life changing experience of encountering the Living God on the road to Damascus. In the epistle, he reminds his readers that as a devout Jewish teacher, he sought to annihilate or extinguish the new movement of the Way that we know as Christianity. The conversion of Saul on the road was life changing. He no longer followed the life in which he grew up, studied, and taught. It was a complete turnabout. Through his encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, Saul was converted. This is the same kind of conversion that is truly necessary for us to change but not from tearing down the teachings of the Faith as did Saul. Instead, it is important for us to change from the passive, lukewarm Christian that many of us have become. Revelation 3:15-16 says: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. By these words, Saint John the Evangelist is reminding us that our Faith is something that we must nurture, re-kindle, and live every day. Here, he was writing to the Laodiceans and observing that their lives were lukewarm in spiritual fervor and good works; their lack of commitment was revolting to the Lord. (Orthodox Study Bible notes) By nourishing our souls with the Word of God, our daily Bible reading, we are feeding a soul that is barraged in our everyday lives by so much hate, deceit, and enmity as guided by our televisions, newspapers, and social media, especially in these recent weeks. We do not have to go out and seek the evil; it comes to us through these and other means. Saint John would encourage us to be like Saint Paul and recognize that God created us good and in His image. We should allow that to influence what we think, what we do, and what we say. It is up to every one of us to allow Saint Paul s words to stir our hearts as he writes: But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace. God made you, and by His grace you may hear the special calling He has for all His children.

INTERNATIONAL CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AND PASTRY SALE Holy Trinity Church in Biloxi is hosting its annual fundraiser on Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at 255 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi. The event will feature a pastry sale, live entertainment, traditional international food, kids' activities, and a marketplace with vendors and gifts. Make plans to drive over to Mississippi and support this worthwhile event. If you would like more information, contact Biloxi Parish Council President George Yurchak at georgeyurchak@yahoo.com. STEWARDSHIP Stewardship is the collective effort of everyone supporting the Church. If you have not already pledged for 2016, please become a supporting member before this year's Stewardship Campaign closes out. Envelopes are in the Narthex. And, remember, the amount you give is your personal decision. Your participation as a steward is important; complete a membership card and submit it to become an active supporter of Holy Trinity. SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP SPONSORS The Cathedral family thanks the Daughters of Penelope, who volunteered to sponsor the November Sunday Fellowship. Please note that December is still available for "adoption." If you can volunteer for some or all of December, contact Maria Anastasiou at 504-456-1780. TURKEY RAFFLE Holy Trinity PTA is selling Turkey Raffle tickets after church services today and next Sunday, November 13. The drawing will be the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 20. SAINT NEKTARIOS November 9 Saint Nektarios was born in Selyvria of Thrace on October 1, 1846. He became a monk on Chios in 1876 and swiftly ascended through the degrees of ecclesiastical office, becoming a shining light and a spiritual guide to many. In 1904 he began to build his convent of the Holy Trinity on Aegina and became the protector of all Aegina, delivering the island from drought, healing the sick, and casting out demons through his prayers. Although he worked wonders in life, an innumerable multitude of miracles occurred after his repose in 1920 through his holy relics, which remained incorrupt for many years. There is hardly a malady that has not been cured through his prayers; but, Saint Nektarios is especially renowned for his healings of cancer for sufferers in all parts of the world. As a parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, Holy Trinity Cathedral is guided by the articles of the Unified Parish Regulation. The Archdiocese considers parishioners in good standing when the following criteria are fulfilled. PARISHIONERS Section 1: Every person, who is baptized and chrismated according to the rites of the Orthodox Church, is a parishioner. The religious, moral, and social duties of a parishioner are to apply the tenets of the Orthodox Faith to his/her life and to: adhere to and live according to the tenets of the Orthodox faith; faithfully attend the Divine Liturgy and other worship services; participate regularly in the holy sacraments; respect all ecclesiastical authority and all governing bodies of the Church; be obedient in matters of the Faith, practice, and ecclesiastical order; contribute towards the progress of the Church's sacred mission; and be an effective witness and example of the Orthodox Faith and Traditions to all people. A parishioner in good standing practices all the religious and moral duties as described in this Section 1. At a minimum, a parishioner in good standing must: be eighteen years of age or over; be current in his or her stewardship and other financial obligations to the Parish, abide by all the regulations herein stated and the Parish Bylaws; and cooperate in every way towards the welfare and well-being of the Parish. (Stewardship is recommended to be ten percent (10%) of one s annual income as stated in Holy Scripture to help meet the financial obligations of the Parish, the Metropolis, and the Archdiocese.) Section 2: Any person wishing to be a parishioner in good standing in more than one Parish must remit his or her Stewardship financial obligation to each Parish as stated in Section 1 of this Article. A parishioner wishing to move from one Parish to another must present a letter of transfer from the Priest of the Parish from which he or she is moving stating that he or she is in good standing. Section 3: No person shall be deemed a parishioner in good standing while: not adhering to the standards outlined in Sections 1 and 2 of this Article; retaining affiliation in an Orthodox Parish which defies the jurisdiction or the ecclesiastical authority of the Archdiocese; being a member of or practicing a non- Orthodox faith or other religion; and deliberately disregarding and transgressing the moral law of the Church. Section 4: The Priest shall judge any cases of special circumstances justifying the waiver of a parishioner's stewardship financial obligations. Section 5: A parishioner in good standing has the right to attend, participate and vote at Parish Assemblies, as well as to vote in Parish Council elections. Each such parishioner may also be nominated for election to the Parish Council or to represent the Parish at a Local Assembly or the Congress. Section 6: An Orthodox Christian parishioner in good standing at his or her canonical Orthodox Parish may serve as a sponsor in another Parish without being obliged to become a member in good standing at the Parish where the sacrament will take place. A parishioner may serve as a sponsor in another Parish by presenting a letter of good standing from his or her home Parish Priest. Section 7: Each Parish shall maintain a Parish Record, which shall include, at a minimum, the following information concerning each parishioner: baptismal and family name, occupation (optional), dates of baptism and/or chrismation and marriage, complete family record of spouse and children, date of entry into the Parish indicating if transferred from another Parish, date of death, and such other information that shall be deemed appropriate. THE EPISTLE Galatians 1:11-19 Brethren, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and remained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother. THE GOSPEL Luke 8:41-56 At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.
