Beloved in Christ, FROM FATHER MICHAEL I pray that you are well, and may our Lord and Savior continue to Bless you. Before I offer my monthly message, I would like to personally express my appreciation to everyone who made our Annual Greek Festival a great success! The commitment, love and hard work before, during and after the Festival shows your individual and cohesive love for your Orthodox Faith, our Hellenic Heritage and for the glorious history of the faithful Orthodox Christians of Brockton and the surrounding area. I was stopped by many of our visitors that asked me to express their appreciation to all of you for your Φιλότιμο and Φιλοξενία! Two beautiful attributes that comes from the heart of each and every Steward of our parish. I again thank you all and please know that you have my love, appreciation and Blessings. In His Service, +Father Michael The Holy Evangelist Luke was born and raised in Syria. He was a physician educated in the Greek medical arts and he also accompanied Saint Paul on several of his journeys. Upon hearing about Christ, Luke went to Palestine and accepted the Word of salvation from Christ. As one of the Seventy Apostles, Saint Luke was sent out by the Lord, with the others, to preach the Kingdom of Heaven even before the Lord s crucifixion. After the His Holy Resurrection, the Lord appeared to Saints Luke and Cleopas on the road to Emmaus. Holy Tradition credits Saint Luke with painting the first icons of the Theotokos; Let the grace of Him Who was born of Me and My mercy be with these Icons, said the Holy Mother after seeing the icons. Saint Luke also painted icons of Saints Peter and Paul. The Gospel of Saint Luke was written in the years 62-63 at Rome, under the guidance of Saint Paul. In the early verses Saint Luke specifically sets forth the purpose of the Gospel. He records, in chronological order, everything known about Jesus and His teachings which was told to him by the early Christians. By doing this, he provided a historical basis for Christian teaching. He carefully examines the facts and records of the oral tradition of the Church through discussions with the Holy Theotokos Herself. Saint Luke also wrote the Acts of the Holy Apostles at Rome during this same period which is a continuation of the four Gospels. The Book speaks about the works and the fruits of the Holy Apostles after the Ascension of the Savior. He records the narrative is the Council of the Holy Apostles at Jerusalem in the year 51. This Council resulted in the separation of Christianity from Judaism and its independent dissemination into the world (Acts 15:6-29). The holy relics of Saint Luke were taken from Constantinople and brought to Padua, Italy during the time of the Crusades. In 1992, Metropolitan Hieronymos of Thebes requested from the Roman Catholic Bishop in Thebes a portion of Saint Luke s relics for the Saint s empty sepulcher in the Orthodox Cathedral in Thebes. Bishop Mattiazzo, the Roman Catholic prelate of Thebes, sent a rib from Saints Luke s relics to the Metropolitan to be venerated in Saint Luke s original tomb. May the Holy Evangelist pray for us.

PRESIDENT S CORNER Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Father Michael and the Parish Council, I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to all the volunteers, donors and supporters of this year's food festival. As a result of your dedicated and tireless efforts working side by side in Christian fellowship over a 4 day period, our church experienced the most successful food festival both in revenue and enjoyment. Though our festival was only open for four days to the public, many of our volunteers worked for weeks and even months in advance to make it a huge success. I'm sure you will agree with me that it is gratifying to see so many people give their time, talent and treasure for the benefit of our parish. A heartfelt THANK YOU for a job well done goes out to all the men, women and children of our parish, who dedicated countless hours organizing, preparing, and working our festival. Those of you that were able to be part of this enormous undertaking are to be commended for your zealous efforts and thoughtful donations. You are truly the catalyst and the backbone that led to our festival s best results to date. As you may know, the revenues raised in these four(4) days represents approximately 1/4 of our church s yearly income. I d also like to extend a special thank you to Master Rappold, of Personal Best Karate, the wonderful teen group from PBK which includes my nephew Michael Babanikas, who spearheaded this group to come to our church and volunteer some of their time for our food festival. They assisted us with some pre festival set up, but most importantly, with all of the post festival break down of tables and chairs. We are truly appreciative to Master Rappold, and the entire teen group from Personal Best Karate, for their most impressive and invaluable display of community service. In past bulletins, I have talked about numerous projects undertaken at our church throughout the year. On behalf of Fr. Michael, the Parish Council, and the entire Parish membership, I would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the Lingos foundation for their continued support and philanthropy. Thalia, Tasha, Tania, and Tamara, daughters of our late beloved fellow parishioners John and Sonia Lingos, recently made a $25,000.00 donation towards the cost of the ceiling repairs and painting of the church proper as well as for the newly installed surveillance camera system. I am pleased to inform you that both of these projects were able to be paid for in their entirety at no cost to the church thanks to the collective generosity of the Lingos foundation and all of the stewards that supported and donated to these 2 projects. I am certain that as stewards of our parish, we all take pride in these most recent improvements which in turn will provide a long-term benefit to all of us as a community. In the past, the parish council and I have reached out to you, our family of 350 Stewards for your continued support. Thanks to your ongoing generosity and support all of the projects undertaken over the past 3 years, our church where we come together to worship and receive our Lord s blessing has been upgraded and beautified without having to incur any debt. The parish council and I, thank you for the trust you have put in us as we completed these various projects. I am hopeful you will agree that throughout the year(s), together we have been making positive strides in enhancing our church s appearance and at the same time preserving and strengthening the bond among all our parishioners. Important upcoming date that we look forward to seeing everyone attend : Sunday, November 11, 2018 Fall General Assembly The Parish Council will be providing a complimentary appreciation luncheon where we can all come together in Christian fellowship and enjoy each other's company as we discuss the State of the Church. In order for the Parish Council to properly prepare for this luncheon at the fall general assembly, we ask that you kindly call the Church Office to reserve your seat no later than Monday, November 5, 2018. " Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. ~ Henry Ford ~ Respectfully yours, Nicholas H. Babanikas Parish Council President November 6th PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS October 9th December 11th

YOUTH NEWS GOYA News Our Next Meeting is October 14th We will be having meetings every second Sunday of the month. Please try your best to attend! The first GOYA meeting went very smoothly, everyone is so glad to see a large group of our youth to be excited in this amazing organization. This year is off to a very promising start! These next couple months for GOYA we are planning to go food shopping at Market Basket and bring all the foods to the Mainspring house. This will be our first quarter community service project. We hope to see you all participate, and get excited to do some amazing things that help out the people around us, creating a better community. As the month of October gets closer we are going to start preparing for the Harvest Party. For those of you who don t know what the Harvest Party is it is a youth get together. There will be games like musical chairs, mummy rolling, and bean bag toss. This is a perfect time to show all those future GOYANs what it is like to be apart of a community. This will be taking place the last Friday in October, the 26th. However we will need our food, game, music and decoration communities to step up and help this Party run smoothly. If a GOYAN has not signed up for a committee yet go see Eleni (the President) to sign up. We will be meeting up the night before, Thursday the 25th, to set up the decorations and do a last check to make sure we have everything we need. We look forward to a great year of GOYA!
