Each is an excellent tool to help your child learn about the Orthodox faith during Liturgy with your guidance. At the end of the service you are asked to return the bags in their original condition to the same room so others can enjoy them the following Sunday. The Quiet Bags were lovingly donated by the Moustoukas and Peterson families and sponsored by the ECYM Committee.

2 2016 STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY MARCH 13 STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY Next Sunday, March 13, 2016, is STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY. The Stewardship Committee asks that everyone please complete and return his/her 2016 pledge cards by that time. If you have already made a pledge but did not fill out a card, you are asked to do so for informational purposes. A table will be set up in the community center during the coffee hour with additional stewardship information and packets available. Please be generous in your support of Holy Trinity and its ministries. GREEK FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS The Greek Festival Pastry Committee is busy preparing pastries each Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and everyone is invited to participate in this huge ongoing project. Join the volunteer group for fellowship and lunch as they meet twice each week now through May, except during Holy Week. GREEK FESTIVAL MEETING WITH NANCY MOORE A special Greek Festival meeting with Nancy Moore will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 pm in the Coffee Room. All chairpersons should make every effort to attend since plans and specific details for each booth will be discussed. Also, let Stacy know if you cannot attend since Nancy may be able to meet with you after church services on Sunday. HELLENIC DANCERS Dance practice for the Greek Festival has begun. OCMC MISSION APPEAL UPDATE The Holy Trinity Cathedral family continues to respond to the recent appeal from Christine and Manoli Ioannidis, who seek financial assistance with their Orthodox Christian Missions Center trip to Guatemala this April. PHILOPTOCHOS MEMBERSHIP To those, who renewed their Philoptochos membership for 2016, a special thank you is extended. If you are not currently a member, please consider joining. To all the men of the community, you too are invited to join the membership roles of Philoptochos. At this time Philoptochos takes the opportunity to remind everyone that MEN ARE IMPORTANT in the life of the Philoptochos chapter. For many years Philoptochos has enjoyed the support shown by husbands to the women of Philoptochos, who often take time away from their families to offer good works in the name of the ministry. We invite all men of the community to join the Philoptochos membership roles and be an important part of the work done in the name of charity and philanthropy. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Senior citizens are invited to the next luncheon on March 17, beginning at 11:30 am in the Coffee Room. Luncheon chairpersons Maria Anastasiou and Cornelia Koniditsiotis are making plans now for the event. 3 PARKWAY PROMENADE XXV Jefferson Beautification, Inc. will celebrate Parkway Promenade XXV on Sunday, April 3, 2016, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner. The theme is "Cruising the Mediterranean," and the Hellenic Dancers of Holy Trinity will perform. Profits from this 25th anniversary event will help purchase Greek muses bronze sculptures for the gardens of the new Jefferson Performing Arts Center. If you are interested in attending, please pick up information available in the Cathedral Narthex. SUNDAY OF ORTHODOXY VESPERS The Holy Trinity Cathedral family will host the parishioners of St. Basil Antiochian Orthodox Church on Sunday, March 20, at 6:00 pm for the Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers. Father Peter Nugent will be in attendance with Father George. After the service everyone is invited to the Coffee Room for refreshments and fellowship. Make plans to attend. VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL STAFF NEEDED Presvytera Harriet is seeking staff members for the 2016 Vacation Church School that will take place the week of June Teachers, an arts and crafts instructor, a music instructor, and a recreation instructor, as well high school student assistants interested in obtaining community service hours for school, are needed. Please speak to her, if you are interested in participating in one of these capacities. It is important to start planning now! The Vacation Church School is a fun, exciting ministry for children ages 3 through middle school. YOUTH HYMNOLOGY PROGRAM EXPANDS The Hymnology staff is pleased to announce that the program is advancing to a new level. Working with Choir Director Alex Tiliakos, the adult choir will welcome any child in 4th grade and older to join them during Sunday Divine Liturgies. Students, who wish to participate, should be in the Cathedral choir loft by 10:00 am. They will be assigned a mentor. After Holy Communion, they will proceed to Sunday Church School but during the summer may remain throughout the service. As always, the Youth Hymnology staff truly appreciates the tremendous support and encouragement from parents, grandparents, Parish Council, ECYM, choir members, and parishioners in this important youth ministry. Let us purify our soul and cleanse our flesh; and as we fast from food, let us abstain also from every passion. Rejoicing in the virtues of the Spirit may we persevere with love, and so be counted worthy to see the solemn Passion of Christ our God, and with great spiritual gladness to behold His holy Passover. The hymn above is from the Vespers Service known as the Forgiveness Vespers. It is celebrated on the evening before Kathara Defthera (Clean Monday), marking the beginning of Great Lent. This special service will be offered next Sunday, March 13, at 6:00 pm. Our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ demands that each of us reconcile with those whom we have hurt and those who have hurt us. Only when we have reached out to these people in our lives and purposely worked to bring these relationships into a positive harmony of mutual understanding, love, and acceptance will we find favor of God. How good and pleasant it is when God s people live together in unity! For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. [Psalm 133:1,3] The Vespers of Forgiveness is replete with the reminders of the spiritually charged season of Great Lent, which we are about to enter, and the need for all of us to seek and offer forgiveness to everyone in our lives. As we do this and seek to remove the burdensome spiritual baggage that most of us carry around with us, we are growing in our relationship with our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. After praying in this service, meditating on the important message of Forgiveness, and making amends with the people in our lives, the Church encourages all to participate in the Sacrament of Penance, including the Service of Confession, to help us make amends with ourselves and seek a sense of reconciliation with the Lord. Meatfare Sunday, also called Sunday of the Last Judgment Today is called Meatfare Sunday because it is the last day meat or poultry is eaten before Pascha for those keeping the Lenten Fast. It is also called Sunday of the Last Judgment, which refers to the Gospel lesson (Matthew 25:31-46) in which the Lord tells us that we shall be judged at the end according to the love we have shown for our brother.

THE EPISTLE I Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2 Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if anyone sees you, a man of knowledge, at a table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. THE GOSPEL Matthew 25:31-46 The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
